343/365 ENYA - ON YOUR SHORE (1988) (as seen on part two of Val Doonican's "Homeward Bound" BBC)

During the course of this year I aim to upload a song every day for your consideration as to whether they were good enough and sufficiently commercial to have become UK Top 20 singles. Many different genres will be represented, so if this particular one’s not your preferred style then hopefully it won’t be too long before you find one that is.
For those songs that are interesting enough for you to give them a proper listen, please press “like” if you think it could have been a hit, and “dislike” if you don’t, in the hope that we get enough votes to obtain a balanced overview. Also, if leaving a critical comment please try to take into account the year of original release - most of the songs that I'll be uploading are decades old so it wouldn’t be surprising if some sound dated now.
Today’s choice is On Your Shore by Enya. First released in 1988 on the “Watermark” album, it seems that some people are under the erroneous impression that it was recorded in two years earlier for the BBC documentary “The Celts”. However it was actually used in 1989 on the second episode of Val Doonican’s “Homeward Bound” mini-series, which is where the video of Enya singing it originates from as you can see here • ENYA-VAL DOONICAN'S HO... . It seems incredible now in retrospect that WEA didn’t size the opportunity to use that TV exposure to release “On Your Shore” as a single, but it remained purely an album track and so never had the opportunity to gain sufficient radio airplay to catch wider public attention. Nonetheless it remains one of Enya’s most popular album tracks and I commend it to you here.
Hopefully you’ll drop by again tomorrow for something completely different!
