    I turned my coat closet into a pantry. It’s in the living room but I’m the only one that opens it. Now I have more space in my kitchen. I should have done that long ago! Seriously!... a lot of space just for coats that can go in a bedroom closet or get a coat tree for when guest come over.

    Avoid round storage containers. They just waste space. Look for square and rectangular ones instead. Also, the space above the fridge is also usually wasted. I have 2 large decorative bins on top of my fridge that I use to house infrequently used and seasonal items. I also bought a nesting/stackable set of pots and pans. (Curtis Stone Durapans) All of the pots and skillets, except for my cast iron heirloom skillet have 2 short helper handles, so they take up very little space in the cupboard and are safer on the stovetop of my tiny kitchen.

    Some of these ideas tend to create more visual stress -- those hanging baskets or open storage. I think going through your kitchen items and decluttering multiples is one way to avoid having to use some of these hacks. When things are stored in the open they get dirty, especially in a kitchen where there is a lot of oil and dust in the air that settles on utensils in open containers. The little wire things you put in shelves to create more storage space are really great, though, and you can buy them very inexpensively at Dollar stores...if your kitchen absolutely lacks space, though, these hacks can help. But if there is little storage and no wall space, declutter like crazy first. In Julia Child's kitchen reproduced in the Smithsonian museum of American history, I recall green peg boards that cover at least one wall and hold all sorts of pans and utensils. Her kitchen would have had to be SUPER workable.

    @@johnclaybaugh9536 you could store some of your kitchen appliances on a tall shelf in a corner of the living room perhaps ? You can put different more attractive things on it also to balance the feel of it ! That's what I'm gonna have to do ! I don't use my bread oven or my blender every day !

  • @johnclaybaugh9536

    @johnclaybaugh9536

    @@agemoth I said nothing about any of that. I was just commenting that decluttering many times isn't the answer. Your comment doesn't really make sense as a reply to mine. Also, in a studio apartment storing kitchen items in the living room doesn't always work.

    When I bought my Keurig coffe maker, I never once bought those indivigual plastic coffee pods. (8:00) They are terribly expensive (hundreds of dollars in a year, add it up). Also they are horrible for the enviroment. Instead, get a reusable pod. About 20 dollars but you can use it forever. I got very use to it in no time. Much better than trying to find space for pods, for many reasons.

    Juana Pitts My retarded apt complex when something needs fixed you give them authorization to come in once to fix the problem...yet they come into your apartment announced several times After that and Never fix the problems and then wonder why your apt smells...leaky pipes, dust and dirt, tiny pebbles coming from vent from the roof, water constantly changing that you get sick and don't have the energy to clean yet they don't fix Anything!!!

    I lived in apt for years- some inventive ideas I used: coloured sheets stapled to walls instead of paint to give a fresh look, you cannot see the small holes from the stapler + when you move you'll find uses for those sheets- LOL! Over the door shoe holders for medicine, snacks, crafts, or whatever you can think of... I put one on each side of some of my doors bc I had 3 kids & really needed space. Under beds are a great place to store extra toliet paper/canned goods or winter/summer clothes & blankets that aren't in use to free up closets & cabnits. I would constantly look around & say where's empty space... what can I store there in a convenient manner so my living space stays open! It's a challenge to be sure. Good luck!
