@joelblackburn7177 there's nothing ethical about a 1k+ shot. Even the spotter for the United States rifle team (Kent Reeve) has said that shots should be taken at less than 600 yards.

The shooting was really poor.First impact I noticed was around 4m from the animal. Unbelievable that someone takes shoot like that when has no clue what he is doing.

good shot, i don't know if you're using mils on your scope or not, if so ranging should be a bit easier. also if you arent using ballistics charts that would help you out a lot on long distance targets like this one. You can usually find a detailed ballistics chart on the round you are shooting, if not look up tiborasaurusrex ballistics charts on youtube he explains how to create your own, also very very good videos to help with long range shooting. Great shot/persistence and adjustment, 1258 yards is definitely something to be proud of, very impressive.

Well done. It's easy for people to criticize but what they don't realize is it isn't every day in Idaho you can get to within 200 yards of a moose. And they don't give those tags away. Plus I will be the first to admit I've made worse shots at much closer ranges.

  • @averyabood6155

Joe this is why long range hunting isnt the most ethical way to hunt- too much room for error- that was a drawn out kill- i shoot a 338 as well iut past 1000 yards for paper- but would never hunt at those ranges- the distance is impressive but its our obligation to make a quick and humane kill- much easier at 200 yards IMO

@@oklahomabassin5286 BULLSHIT he made lousy shots and most likely with a completely wrong design bullet, not to menntion moose has to be one of the easiest animal ever to get close and I mean VERY close to, that is unless you don't know your ass from your elbow on how to hunt, I've been close enough to moose to reach out and slap them on more than one occasion, I've also been close enough to a few deer and elk to do the same, pick up a bow instead of a gun and you'll eventually learn what hunting is...it's not sitting in your car snipping game from stupid ass distances away.

I agree that all is well that ends well and generally speaking this one ended well. That said, they got lucky, they had no idea where their first shot went, it could have just as easily been a gut shot as it was a shot in the dirt. Not to mention that because of loss of velocity they've minimized the bullet performance and were hardly doing more than poking holes in the moose. They killed it yes, but it is not our job as hunters to merely kill the animal, but to do it in the most humane way possible. In my opinion, that means getting a whole lot closer. Great shooting, yes, but not impressed with the "Hunting" aspect of it.

When bow was the only hunting weapon and when rifle came along, bow hunters called rifle users unethical. Now rifle users are calling long range hunters unethical. It's just evolution. These idots that complain about long range hunting have no idea of how much physics and mathematical calculations involved in making that precision shot. The title itself says long range moose hunting. If someone feels unethical why bother even watching the video. My advice to the shooter "we are new breed of hunters. Don't worry about the idots that complain. They are probably pissed off because they are not capable of making a shot like that. Keep up the good work. Only correction is you missed a couple of shots initially because you didn't take into consideration on the elevation. Get a range finder that will give you the compensator range like G7 BR2 RANGE FINDER ot LEUPOLD RX1200 and you can shoot that moose in your first shot.
