Phil Keaggy is an absolute master that far too few people have ever actually heard.

I love Phil Keggy
Yes, they sang like angels. Matthew Ward was so unique that it just seemed impossible. Amazing. What a nice story.
Hopefully people will checkout 2nd Chapter of Acts and the solo work of Matthew Ward. Impeccable work.

"Noah's Song" and "Summer Snow" by Matthew Ward are great! I once sang Ward's version of Psalm 61 in a small Bible study group. Noah's Song is ideal for kicking off praise with a release of gratitude for the love we haven't and can never earn, freely given by a mighty God.
I've always adored 2nd Chapter of Acts. And both Michael and Stormie Omartian are phenomenally talented.

Truly!
Kerry Livgren of Kansas played guitar and keyboards on that album as well. It is a great album. I bought it because I was a Kansas and 2nd Chapter of Acts fan. Thanks for sharing.
Since your in the CCM direction how about a look at Phil Keaggy's Time from Love Broke Thru? According to the credits it was you, Larry Knechtel on the B3 and Jim Gordon with Phil. It's a grooving tune.
Matthew is just amazing. I love his Armed and Dangerous album.
Matthew Ward's voice is so good. His natural hormonies. But his solo lead melodies are one of a kind.
Amazing to hear you say what those who have known him or his work have been saying for almost five decades : "Phil Keaggy, who is one of the best guitarists..., ever...' He truly is..., and perhaps the most humble and engaging artist across a number of genres! Then 2nd Chair of Acts! Many of their songs i still have memorized from decades ago. Their harmonies are unparalleled! Matthew Wards' high tenor and rolling range is also unmatched.I'm very grateful i stumbled join your video Leland. To have such an accomplished, world renowned musician..., highlight these amazing Christian talent ed, and gifted musicians did my heart a merry good! Thank you. Also, if one reads The Second Chapter of Acts...., one will definitely be sparked to wonder what the heck Jesus was conveying..., and conferring on his followers!🤣✝️ Thank you again Leland!
Mathew Ward!...fantastic singer. I got to perform with him maybe 20 years ago. Such a great guy and those Pipes!!!
Laying on the ground with a pair of pups has got to be the best form of rejuvenation! Love 2nd Chapter of Acts (the book and the family) haha. Matthew sometimes sounds a lot like little Stevie Wonder.
So glad you uplift these musicians!! They were instrumental in my finding direction in my own life! Thank you!
Their compositions and harmonies were really great. Matthew Ward certainly had such an amazing vocal tone and skill. So unfortunate there are just a handful of videos of the group and Matt's early solo work that are accessible online. Most will never know just what a vocalist extraordinaire he was.
I may run long here, but the Singer Sower album was so important to me. In January of 1986, because of a freak sledding accident, I wound up in the hospital, in traction, with a broken neck. No paralysis (thank God) but of course there's not much to do when you're suspended in a stryker frame mattress for weeks. A friend took pity and brought some music to play on my Walkman -- a three-year-old Sparrow Records sampler. That sampler was my introduction to 2nd Chapter of Acts. I'd seen the band in concert ca. 1981 but it didn't make a dent because I was unfamiliar with their music -- never a good thing when seeing a band live (unless that band happens to be Brave Combo! But I digress). 2nd Chapter got my attention when I was stranded in traction, with their song "Ocean Liner." I asked my wife to run to the local Christian bookstore and pick up the Singer Sower album (along with two other albums that were featured on the sampler, by Lamb and John Michael Talbot), dub them to cassettes, and bring them to the hospital. I played the heck out of Singer Sower and it remains a favorite to this day. "Beware My Heart" is a highlight and I remember those crazy little bass lines at the end like the back of my hand.

Wow! You mentioned Brave Combo! I was in Denton in another college band when they were there. I played bass for Hejira, but got to hang out with Dave and Karl and the guys. They would come and sit in with us. So much fun!
Looking forward to seeing Annie, Nelly and Matthew in heaven! They were so influencial in the church in being God's presence to everyone back in the day. There's more than this life, find eternity through Jesus!

@@BanBanChi No, not that I'm aware of. It's just that I don't expect to cross paths with any of them in the years ahead. So in Christianity, we believe that we will be reunited with all those who love Jesus, especially 2nd Chapter of Acts! Yay!
I grew up with this music - brings back great memories. All those early 80's CC artists were great.
"Love family vocals..." , especially theirs, they had the most extraordinary blend of anyone I've ever heard. Angels, indeed!!
I love that you approach these projects with the same level of professionalism and musicality whether the band was a CCM project or a band from the top of the charts. The lesson learned is "Always be a Pro".
Whoa... haven't seen that name for a looong time. Love the Toto-esque vibe and the vocals are crystal, pitch perfect. Long before auto-t00n. ;)
Barry McGuire tells a great story about meeting 2nd chapter on his album ‘to the bride’ Words fail to say what Kerry, Michael and stormie, Barry have contributed to my life. Thank you Leeland!
Lee, I love the section on 2nd Chapter. I went nuts on the bass solo on Beware My Heart when I first heard it in the eighties. Met the players and Phil Keaggy. He’s such a great guy.
NICE bass line. Thanks for adding to The Second Chapter Of Acts. Really wonderful.
In the seventies/eighties we had a thing called RANO which was broadcasting in Hospitals etc. We did a gospel program and as the opening tune we used Rejoice by Second Chapter. Memories.
Matthew Ward’s voice, remarkable, thanks for letting it shine again.

Leland, when people ask you what albums you've played on, just give them a big smile and say ...."ALL of them" 😁

Yes. It is probably easier to make a list of the few artists that Leland hasn't played with than to document the hundreds and hundreds of albums, and the thousands of songs that he has played on.
So that was YOU, Leeland! I remember listening to that song back in the day, and LOVED that bass part! :)
Thanks for sharing that tune. I didn't know you had played with them. I see that Matthew is bopping around on FB from Colorado these days. When I saw them, I think they had Abe Laboriel. They were touring with Phil Keaggy at the time. What a sound they have together!
I listen to some of your vids, interested in your bass playing and the stories. Some of your featured artists I do not know or listen to much, but this one… You are a great artist. God has given you a love for people and animals, a gentle spirit, a remarkable life, imagination, artistic abilities, a love of music, and skill in laying down inventive groundwork for much remarkable music. You are also humble. (I loved your story in this vid about when they gave you room to stretch out and you commented, “What were they thinking?”) This video took me on a journey into some of my stories and memories. Thank you for posting it. Our pastor was an especial friend of this family and brought them to our church on a number of occasions to perform. Each one was a special person. The life they transfused into the music, their creativity and technical abilities, never eclipsed the content of their songs: Jesus. Matthew Ward is a true freak in every good sense of the word, musically, creatively, and technically. His song “Love” brings tears nearly every time I hear it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rG1-l9OTlLDMfZc.html
What a great song for you to be able to showcase your amazing skill on the base guitar!
I know this song by heart. 2nd chapter of acts was an awesome foursquare based music group
Yes!!! Thank you, Lee, for featuring my request from yesterday, surrounded with great background stories... much appreciated!

Excellent comment, and so true! Leland has been - and continues to be - a wonderful gift to the music world. Thanks for all you do, Leland!
Wow. This was a blast from the past. Had forgotten about them. Genuine talent.
I've always loved them SHOUTING "Take my heart into a silent place"
Hi Lee, just came across this but have been a 2nd Chapter fan since the 70s. Loved your innovation on this song, really finished it off nicely. I'd say their instincts were excellent concerning your contribution to the song.
I've been enjoying your videos over the past few weeks, and clips from different Phil Collins concerts. You certainly have fun. And, thanks for mentioning the frontline workers. I appreciate it - my wife is an ER doc, my former wife is an RN, the daughters are in med school. Stay safe, stay well. Cheers from Colorado.
Love 2nd Chap! Matthew is so unique and soulful
Definitely love old 2nd Chapter of Acts and Phil Keaggy. Great music from a time that was fresh and exciting.
Great bass tracks! Yes, the 2nd Chapter of Acts' familial blend is wonderful; truly angelic and one-of-a-kind. I thought on the lyrics "time is eroding, seconds are floating..." which brought me here...literally quite true! As the lyrics say, I personally believe time has supernaturally sped up; and it's the Lord's doing. I love the Omartian productions and arrangements! His fingers are so fast on the keyboards! Stormie's lyrics are so deep and reflective. If I'm not mistaken, I think I saw your name on a Danniebelle Hall project, "This Moment", 1975. I would love to have that ,one on CD or digital.

Yes, did her album!
Just wanted to repost/reiterate that I love it when you play a tune I've never heard - especially by an artist I've (embarrassingly) never heard of. New sounds to discover. Seriously dig the harmonies and the groove. In a very strange way, something about the first 20 seconds or so (before the vocals come in) reminds me vaguely of the Dregs. Anyway, thanks for this one.

The 2nd Chapter of Acts were very creative musically, they used Kerry Livgren from Kansas on their album “Rejoice” and it sounded like it
Umm hmmm! You nailed that ending! Great stuff! Wow! And now you are talking about Omar!!! Goodness! Michael Omartian is indeed the BEST producer I have EVER HEARD! Really! He can take a simple repetitive fragmented melody and add an arrangement that transforms each piece of that pattern into a MASTERPIECE: i.e. think “Sailing” by Christopher Cross! I mean REALLY; need I say more???😉
Beautiful vocal harmonies. And delightful bass lines and twirls.
COMMON SENSE ON COVID. THANKS. A YR ON, WE STILL TRYING TO BRING THINGS AROUND EVERYWHERE. AGAIN THANKS FOR. BEEARE MY HEART. 1983 SINGER SOWER ALBUM. MASSIVE WORK. MICHAEL AND STORMIE ARE IN THERE (STORMIE WORKED ON GLEN CAMPBELL SHOW).
They were my favorites back in my Christian days. Loved Second chapter of Acts.

Beware my heart is one of my fave songs of theirs.
When I worked for Riverside County Parks, one of my volunteers was/is a good friend of Phil Keagy. A masterful musician. Once again, a small world. I really enjoyed your story today. Thank you, Lee.
Just one of my all-time favorite 2nd Chapter tracks.
Very cool, Lee! Excellent bass on the end (and throughout).

Judith is Lee’s worst kept secret. Barrels of talent (writing, singing & playing), completely bonkers, and hysterically funny when’s she’s not being poignant and right on. Her FFS KZreads are a rollercoaster ride. Musically, IMHO, she’s in a league with Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones and Carole King. And she’s Welsh. I’ve lived in the UK for 28yrs, and the one thing that has always been true is this: the Welsh can sing! Check her out!!

Wow Lee. Awesome bass track.
First came across your name on a Chuck Girard album, Glow in the Dark I think. The opening songs on that album ... I'll always be impressed!
This is fabulous Lee
Amazing tight vocals. Couldn't get a credit card through it. There are moments which remind me of early-80s Manhattan Transfer here and there - even including the style of the backing players. More top-quality music Lee was part of. Greetings from England.
He is risen Hallelujah 🙏†
Hey Lee. Only thing better than puppy breathe is muskrat love!
I love 2nd chapter of acts and I love you Leland!!!
Thanks for the story about the 2nd Chapter of Acts. Love this song to death. Wow!! So you were the bass player Sir. Love the great bass lines that support & make this song stand out. Excellent job!!
Pretty sure that's Kerry Livgren of Kansas on guitar.

Great music. I really love seeing relive the musical moment.
Great harmonies! Thanks Lee!!

Good for the times were presently in...thanks❣

guy who played all that stuff that he did that is so unlistable....jammin out to 2nd chpt of Acts. so cool!
Thanks Lee, love your channel! 👍
lol they should have a warning on calendars saying "Caution dates may appear closer than they seem!"
Thanks so much for posting this, Leland. I have that record on vinyl but haven't listened in years. Good grief that is an incredible track! Stellar job as always. The 2nd Chapter of Acts not only made great records, but their live show was amazing. Perfect family harmonies and always on pitch - sounded like the records. You're the coolest.
Awesome playing Leland!
Puppy breath is magical. And so are SC of A. Thanks!
Sounds wonderfull.
i've heard your bass playing for years with so so many many artists....always so good in so many ways. but i've never heard you speak....you're so lovely. thank you.
Good to hear 👂
Kerry Livegren played guitar on Singer Sower
Sensational playing Lee
Thank you for your work with 2nd Chapter of Acts! Your magical bass lines opened my ears to the amazing potential of bass, and inspired me to learn! :-)
Good Tuesday morning Lee! Hope all is well and all the best sir!
So cool that you shared this! Was just listening to this after dusting off this album from decades ago and loved your groove and playing. Thanks Lee!
Hello Leland ! Thank you ! Ciao from milano italy !Take care
Thanks Lee 👍🏻
That was some good music and they certainly featured you at the end. Not a bass solo, but close. You have 5 years on me, so I'll bet you remember your first polio vaccine. I can too and I remember my Mom being pretty excited about it. I think that we can now see some light at the end of this tunnel and self-discipline is more important than ever but is harder to find in the general public. Wisconsin has 36% positivity rates. I plan to see the Immediate Family next year but I have to earn that chance. And, a little luck won't hurt.

Really enjoy your videos! 2nd Ch of Acts did a concert at my sister's high school back in ~'76. I looked you up on imdb awhile back and was blown away with the list of artists you've worked with over the years.
Best way to mic a piano: Open top, two hemispherical pattern microphones one to fully capture the upper register, and one for the lower. Placed less then a foot from the strings. They both capture the mids. (That's how John Sundberg mic'd his grand at F.T.M.)
I'm glad you did this video. I became aware of your playing via reading who played on that album.
What records have you played on?..Never mind..I don't have 3 weeks..
Within this last year, (the way that youtube counts, not the calendar year), Matthew, Annie and Buck participated in long form interviews which have been lacking on this platform. Buck and Annie interviewed together and then had individual interviews extensive enough for a part 1 & 2, I think for both Annie and Buck. I only heard their couple interview. I became aware that the parents didn't die at the same time but within a short time of one another. Over a year, at least but I think it was 2+ years apart. I had thought it was one car crash.
Morning Lee!
Great song and really enjoyed hearing about the 2nd Chapter of Acts and totally agree about puppies!! Loved that outro man, totally cool!!
Leland I’ve been a 2nd Chapter fan since 1980. I listened to Singer Sower until the tape practically wore out. Your riffs at the end of Beware My Heart are forever etched in my mind. Great work! And it was wonderful to see you groove to it on this video. Thank you for sharing. (you’re absolutely right: there’s nothing quite like sibling harmonies)
Great dogs with names to match! :)
Wonderful stories
I have loved the 2nd Chapter of Acts since the early 170s when they first came out. I am going to have to dig into my album (on vinyl) collection, but I think I have four or five of their albums. I got to see them in concert in, if I remember right, Zwolle in the Netherlands in 1985 or 86. I am also a big fan of Phil Keaggy.
Love bass crap👍😎 The piano, drums kinda reminds of The Beatles? "; Woke up. Got out of bed. Dragged a comb across my head...sort of vibe? Great vocals. Thanks for this tune man👍😎 👍😎❤🖖 Love brother
