I never really liked the film Sherlocks and never read them, except for The Hound of the Basketvilles. I am hooked on these now. Excellent presentation and characterizations. Watson is not portrayed as a bumbling character like in the TV version.
Love the audio stories. Holmes and Watson are the most perfect characters. I also enjoy reading the comments, what a nice bunch:)

Thank you so much for recording this story! It´s my favourite of them all. Because it´s so simple and minimalistic, yet so intriguing. It´s amazing how sir Arthur could paint such an intricate picture on such a small canvas. And I suspect, I also like it because I can easily put myself in the characters´ shoes 🙂 I have been a student, but I have never been a governess looking for an Indian treasure, an aristocrat attacked by a snake or a daughter of a London banker in love with a criminal 😀
How did Holmes know so early on in his examination to ask the servant about which chair he chose to sit in? I guess it just made little sense to walk so far across the room while feeling terrubly "faint". Good catch, Holmes !
Thanks for uploading these stories here much appreciated, it helps me with my insomnia 👍❤️

So.... finally today I found out that it has a audio book too🙂...why I am so late in everything 🙂
These are great thanks. There is some inconsistency in Holmes' reasoning in this story though. He claims that the Indian student could not have guessed the nature of the papers but Gilchrist could. Also, the stationers appear to open at late hours.
@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that does sound a bit dodgy. Perhaps a stationers would stay open late in a university town. Who knows when the need for a broad pen nib or Power Rangers rubber might arise?

The Indian student only saw a series of papers rolled up that might or might not have been the proofs. Gilchrist definitely saw the proofs opened from his window and therefore definitely knew they were the scholarship proofs.

The three pyramids are mud, sand and sawdust remnants of the long-jump track and pit that were on Ghilchrist's sports shoes, indentations from the spikes on the underneath. Much the same happens with golf shoes.

Dash it. "Electric light"??? Unwarranted, new-fangled innovations. No more the cozy warmth, the delicate sssh of gas lanps. Already the clatter and honking of horseless carriages, next will come surely the din of motors coursing the air overhead. The detective will lack the quiet he needs to concentrate.
