33 Hours of Singapore Airlines to Amsterdam

Normally I'd only do single flight reviews - this time you're coming along for the entire journey. Adelaide to Amsterdam in 33 hours!
Along the way we'll experience both Singapore Airlines regional and long haul business class and spend 9 hours at one of the world's best airports....Singapore Changi.
33 Hours of Singapore Airlines to Amsterdam is the ultimate test of Singapore Airlines business class service - both it's hard product and the famous inflight service from the Singapore Airlines cabin crew.
Here's the link to the Qatar Airways behind the scenes video I mentioned...

Great comment and thank you for making it. Here's the problem I've got and hopefully you (and the others) can help. My last 3 videos were all on smaller carriers or unique aspects of the aviation industry but all were way down in their views. This is due to either the KZread algorithm not liking them or viewers not being as interested in them. If you could do me a favour and watch them this will encourage YT to promote more of this type of content. Also let me know if the videos themselves are the problems :) The 3 videos in question are (you will find them on my channel under Recent Videos - or search the terms below): Uzbekistan Airways - beautiful flight over the mountains from Tashkent to Bishkek in economy class Aer Lingus - economy class from London to Dublin with a sneak peek of my behind-the-scenes filming of the aircraft engineering operations at Dublin Airport Qatar Airways Global Operations Centre - how one room controls 30,000 flights and over 30m passengers per year.

@DennisBunnikTravels I watched the Uzbekistan & Aer Lingus videos, I believe they were both filmed in economy, which is of little interest. Other than having cool liveries, an economy seat is an economy seat I don't know how I missed the Qatar special, I'll be sure to watch it. I do enjoy your videos. They are top quality, keep it up!!!

I love your flying reports, and love the touching of the plane going in and coming out. 😊Singapore airlines is my favourite, and Changi airport is a big part of that experience. We fly from Perth and have slightly shorter first legs if the trip and layovers, but indeed, those are very long travel times to Europe, arriving early mornings with a long day ahead, so doing what you did is the best scenario. I normally keep moving at Changi to circulate the blood and there is so much to see! Happy travels! 😊

I love Singapore Airlines and you were partly responsible for my decision to upgrade to Business Class on Singapore to make a long awaited re-visit to my favourity country, Australia - I saw your and other vloggers trips in Business Class and I decided if I was going to go back to Australia, it was going to be in Business Class (my last economy trip was survivable but jeez, it was hard). I managed to find a travel agent who specialised in low cost business class, and my dream became reality. My only regret is that I didn't give Singapore long enough, and that I didn't give myself enough time to transit in SQ on the way home. I flew A380 LHR - SIN, then A350 SIN - PER - then A350 BNE - SIN - then 777 SIN - LHR. The best overall was the A380, the best for sleeping was the 777. The regional A350 was great for 5 - 8 hour flights with so many options of food, drink, entertainment and sleeping that the time flew. IMO Singapore Airlines knocked it out of the park. My trip to Australia was amazing and by upgrading to Business Class, so was the getting there and back. Thank you Dennis for the inspiration that gave me life-long happy memories!

Also, that video where you went behind-the-scenes at the Qatar Ops Centre was really good I highly recommend it! Great video I also think garlic bread on a plane is the best idea yet for aviation catering! Also you flew SQ, went to Singapore 🇸🇬 Changi & flew to Amsterdam 🇳🇱 ALL ON MY BUCKET LIST SOMEDAY! I also just love your music choices at 10:00 and at 10:21 doesn't jazz music especially piano always just make a lounge or a flight review feel more fancy! 🤣 I remember the last time you used this song on your United Airlines review from Newark to London Heathrow on their B767-300 in Polaris Business Class... @@DennisBunnikTravels I absolutely will! Also, could you tell me the name of that Jazzy Piano song used for the lounge? I'd like to take Singapore flight 12 in SQ First from LAX-HND-SIN on the B777-300ER and fly back to the USA in Singapore Biz from SIN-JFK in their A350-900ULR! IF I EVER HAVE THE MONEY! 😆🤑 Also, I saw one of their BRAND NEW B787-10's (9V-SCU) 🇸🇬 Being manufactured at the Boeing Factory in Charleston SC, I was going to make a Behind-The-Scenes video there with some Boeing people but for complicated reasons, it didn't end up working out, and I was also told I can't post any of those photos... A real bummer considering it was a beautiful night in South Carolina and the planes were all lit up with the spotlight and just shining. 😞 Anyways, I also have a new video coming out very soon from a very secretive, Brazilian aviation museum located right next-door to the Embraer factory & HQ so definitely keep an eye out on my channel for that video. You definitely won't want to miss it! There are almost no videos of this museum anywhere on the Internet so I hope the video is very popular, of course it will be another one of my Guided Tour videos just like I did at the Delta Flight Museum in ATL & several others. Here is that playlist if you'd like to check it out, the video will be added there soon. kzread.info/head/PLyAY3KQqnNkaphqid92ALWKLGYHIDM8Kt I'd like to have it finished by Saturday Jun 15TH 11:00AM EST. great video and Changi is one of the best airports in the world, but Hamad is geting closer now with its new garden. I think you nailed it when it comes to transit and trying to match your biological clock with all the timezones and arrival/departure flights.. I most often depart from Scandinavia with really long haul (Asia, South America, Africa) where it just feels strange to have breakfast as you arrive early, and having to have another breakfast as you depart early, or worse depart in the middle of the night and get nothing.. Dining on demand is a blessing for me. I think my best meal ever was on a QR flight in the middle of the night where they saved those mini-burgers as a late night snack. I do prefer eating at the lounge, getting proper food and where I can work and relax for a few hours an use dining ond demand after some sleep.

Your review is spot on in so many respects. We flew from Melbourne to SFO return business class earlier in the year. Every aspect of the flights were perfect, food service etc. could not be faulted except for one glaring problem that you touched on. That is, of course, the size of the cubby for your feet when attempting to sleep. My wife and I both found it very uncomfortable in trying to find a position in which we could sleep. You pay the big bucks for business class for a reason and we, quite honestly, found it to be a real deal breaker and would be reluctant to fly with SQ again in these seats. A real shame when every other aspect was so good

I've taken the Singapore-Amsterdam flight quite a few times before Covid for work (always economy, save for one premium economy flight). After the first time I've always skipped the first meal. I totally agree with your comments, Dennis. Just back from BNE - MUC- BNE on SQ Business. They are my go-to airline for trips to Europe. I found the only disappointing issue is the seat design on Regional or Medium-haul Business. The hard moulding privacy barrier restricts space around your shoulder area and obscures any viewing out the window. The long haul business seat is the best I've found on all the carriers that I've flown!!

After a series of US West Coast - Bali and back flights last year, I can honestly say, the seat on the 787 beats the seat on the 350. Lots more room for my size 13's on the 787 and I didn't have to lay at a strange angle. The only real issue I had on 6 round trips was the crews inability to give me garlic bread (real first world problem) and on one occasion the crew were unable to give my entire side of the plane any bread. On the plus side, they offered a Pho dish as one of the anytime snacks, it ranked up there with some of the best food I have eaten on a plane in my 50 years of flying. What I did find surprising was the 15+ hours in the air went very quickly, the transfers at SIN were quick and easy.

We travelled from NZ to London with SA. We had a 6week ok baby, I must say the baby change being large is excellent. Also they also allows a dine on demand service for me wife as she was feeding the wee one. Can’t rate them highly enough.

Got promoted at work, not have to fly from Uk to far east once every two months. Dine on demand really helps me sync my body with its new time zone. Didn’t know that Singapore didn’t offer this.

I think Virgin hit the spot with their Upper Class option to dine in their business lounge before boarding, allowing passengers to get an early massage and off to sleep instead of waiting for the meal on board. I used that eastbound transatlantic and it worked for me.

Thanks for the usual great video. As luck would have it I’m flying on SQ on Monday from Cape Town to Bali. Sadly in the back of the plane but even there SQ is acceptably comfortable particularly on the A350 900.

Having flown with Qatar airlines Brisbane to Oslo and Brisbane to Heathrow, I have found dine on demand really useful. I was able to keep more in tune with my body clock instead of eating in the wee small hours. It was a suprise Singapore Airlines don’t offer this.

Thanks Dennis, SQ are amazing. Long layover in Singapore, recommend heading into the city (Marina Bay Sands area) for quick sight see. Easy to do & worth it, even for 3-4hrs, with enough time for shower @ the lounge afterwards (a must after being in the heat) 😁

So pleased you’ve highlighted SQ’s terrible sleeping positions with their seats. Hopefully they will learn and incorporate better seats from the big exhibition in Dubai for airline seating. Still can’t believe people actually believe they are any good. Will be experiencing the A350 back to SIN from CPH on Sunday. Not looking forward to it.

From Los Angeles, where I live, most Asia or Australia flights leave late at night. My strategy is to eat at the beginning of the flight, then (try to) sleep. By that time there are only a few hours until landing. Also, adjusting to the new time is easier. If I sleep right away, there'd be a long, long wait until arrival. Great reviews, Dennis--you're the best! (Some time I'd love to have a long chat with you about my very disappointing experiences with Qantas.)

I would set up the bed and sleep as soon as the seatbelt sign went off. I don't like eating at or around midnight. You can ask them to wake you up for breakfast and coffee! this is in business class anyway.

Agree completely with you on the SQ long haul seats. I won’t fly them in J long haul precisely because of this experience.

Nice. From an Australian perspective, I like to see the whole trip. Nothing worse than a single flight tease that doesn't even come close to anything an Aussie has to deal with. Also - Dine on demand & sleep, to give passengers the chance to work on their body clock.

On trips like yours I'd forget my home time and use the journey to reset my body clock to the destination time. This involves staying awake longet and some tiredness but avoids jetlag

In my view you gotta push through so you are adjusting to Europe time when coming from Australia. Especially if you are arriving early and won’t be able to get to your hotel room till 2 or 3pm. I did the 5am Emirates flight from Melbourne recently to London and although I did end up just passing out, staying up on the 2nd leg for that bit would have been quite useful. I did sleep quite a lot on the 1st leg and didn’t go to bed the night before.

The SQ A350 lie-flat seats are definitely a polarizing topic. Personally, I had no problem with it at all (probably because I'm a side sleeper). I flew SQ 22 from SIN to EWR, which left Changi at around midnight, and was able to get an (almost) uninterrupted 9 hours of sleep on that flat bed! I do understand the complaints as it is a very awkward looking bed.
