$321 a month Beach Hotel in Arugam Bay, Sri Lanka - This place is Amazing!

A hotel on a surf beach for just $321 a month? I love this place! After moving to the main town in Arugam Bay, this is where I ended up checking in for the month. Read my entire post on Sri Lanka for travelers and digital nomads here: www.johnnyfd.com/2019/03/trav...
Please note that these are Low Season rates because of the lack of tourism in 2020 due to the world wide travel restrictions. Normal high season rates (May-August) in Arugam Bay are much more expensive.

    Both WIFI and 4G are surprisingly good in Arugam Bay. I'm getting 66mpbs up and 46.5 down right now. Only annoying thing is some places like where I'm staying isn't unlimited data, so I give then an extra $10 to add 50gb whenever it runs out.

    Hi Johnny! Glad to see you are safe and having a good time. Everything looks nice, but is the wooden chair in your room not super uncomfortable for doing any work on your laptop that takes more than a few minutes? I just wish most hotels or Airbnb apartments would put in a nice faux leather office chair if they offer a desk.

  • @JohnnyFD

    @JohnnyFD

    4 жыл бұрын

    Even a slightly more comfortable wooden chair would be nice to have. The chair at my desk is actually one I swapped out, as the original matching one was even less comfortable with the backrest being completely straight. At least this one has a tiny bit of angle.

    This is the biggest problem I struggle with when traveling. I run a remote web agency and work around 6-8 hours a day, which makes a comfy seating position quintessential. My back is already kind of f...ed up so I need to be extra careful. Airbnb’s with an office space need to become a thing. Especially in a post COVID world.

    Have you been to Da Nang in Vietnam? I had a really nice room about 3 minutes walk to a quiet beach for only $250 a week with super fast wifi and power/water was an extra $25-30 a month. The room was nicer (more modern and private) than the place shown here too. I'm hoping to move back to Da Nang some day but Tbilisi is top of my travel list - and that's the reason I first discovered your channel!

    Haha thanks for the suggestion. But I don't think there's many fish there as generally when they're good surf/waves, it's terrible snorkeling and diving. It'll be just sand.

  • @JohnnyFD

    @JohnnyFD

    I'm renting it from the owner of my guest house. I've met a lot of people getting it for 700 a day (long term, 1 month minimum) or even as low as 550 lkr a day sometimes. I didn't mind paying a bit more as it's a newer bike.

    All the good surf spots, expect for main point which is coal bottom and too advanced for me are 20 minutes away from Arugam Bay. The little surf break behind my house is okay, but it's really small compared to the others. It was 21,000lkr ($113) for the monthly rental.
