31st December 1966. Last Day of Steam on the Isle of Wight, Remembered in 2019 on the IoWSR
This event took place as part of the Isle of Wight Steam Railway's 4 Island Classes Gala on the 28th & 29th September 2019. The only remaining 02 0-4-4T W24 'Calbourne' was withdrawn after the event. Its 10 year boiler certificate expires in December and needs to be in service for the line's 50th in 2021. As the person who made the large headboard back in 1966, this is the first video that I filmed and also appeared in.

Back then, it was like looking at the star ship enterprise now. The world was on horses at that time. Yet it is still inspiring. And so are you folks for keeping such relevant heritage alive.
Great to see my grandfather's Locomotive at work.
Enjoyed the cab view very much. Fancy, the headboard being kept all these years and being filmed anew, and by it's owner. Great. Thank you for posting this. As an ex-islander I can't get enough of island videos...especially in these dark lockdown days!
What a lovely video and it captures the mood of the occasion. I was there on the Saturday and it was a wonderful experience. Hope to see Calbourne again some time.
Well done badminton friend - this just popped up on KZread & I recognised you!
