#31 Replacing the Cap Rail part 1

Whilst waiting for the exposed deck skin to dry out I start work on the cap rail. Finally I get to try out the router and router table I bought a while back. Also I get the chance to open up the timber that was recently delivered and get to do some woodwork for a change!

It took me a while to get that the cut side had to follow the outboard side to create a uniform width on the template. Awesome method.

Great episode and fantastic woodworking skills. That iroko cap rail will look beautiful. Teak much more expensive.?? Nice change from all that fiberglass work.😛😛.

I too am wondering about your work area. I have rarely found and then only in large urban environments an owner who stores boats or works on them who will allow grinding or dust producing work at all. Those that do seem somewhat marginal at best whereas you have excellent lighting and beaucoup work space as well as power. Do you own the building?? Sure makes work such as yours nice.

Cap rails look great. It is good to see all the detail in the way you tackled this. - And as we know, the devil is always in the detail.

thanks for the feedback! I try to include as much of the 'how do I solve this' aspect whilst keeping the video moving. I do spend much more time scratching my head though and thinking about how Im going to do something before doing anything!

I know it's late now but the piece you put the cap rail on goes over the deck glass. To do it right so it doesn't leak you should remove the rail and glass the deck over the edge of the hull where it meets the deck. Then use 3m 5200 or so to replace the kick rail. It's likely wet anyway.

Thanks MiQ, by trade I am an IT Manager, though I have taken some time off from that world to enjoy some sailboat DIY. I will probably need to find a 'proper' job again soon though!

Employments are seldom“proper”, as we all know by now, but sometimes one has to gather some doubloons 💰 for a higher purpose. Though I hope it will come out smoothly for you so main heading can stay clear ⛵️

Ah the doubloons.... Yes. I could not have done this project without having some funding behind me.
