3081 here, August 1986. Skip, Love, Mims, and later Pfortmiller joined. By 3rd phase we were chomping at the bit for some thrashing. Me: Bangs 3 times on the duty hut... Drill Instructor Sgt. Love: "WHAT!?!?!?!" Me: "Sir, PFC Cheek, meritorious 0300 guaranteed contract regular requests permission to get thrashed sir!" From inside the duty hut... Drill Instructor SGT Love: "GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY DUTY HUT RECRUIT!" Me: "SIR, GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE DRILL INSTRUCTOR'S DUTY HUT! AYE AYE SIR!!!" runs back to my rack. Laughter explodes in the squad bay as 89 recruits clean M16A2s Drill instructor SGT Love steps outside the duty hut with his hands on his hips. "SHUT YOUR FUCKING PIE HOLES! I DID NOT SAY YOU COULD LAUGH!" silence..... unless you listened closely.

Seen other speeches like this, very similar. Was US Army 1985-1988. Some of my Drill Sergeants were Vietnam vets, along with the 1SGT. No disrespect to any of them, but Marine DI's are the best at this.

I went thru Paris island in 1987. I still remember my drill instructors. Sdi ssgt watkins, sgt meyers, sgt Bordas, and sgt Cook. You never forget.

ABSOLUTELY! Less than .05% of Americans, are or ever have, served in the military. To think, if we DOUBLED our military; still less than 1% of Americans have served... Its a wonder how we are so badass. Kinda makes the ‘ol “thank you for your service” mean a little bit more.

It’s not “forced” when it is the norm. Therefore there isn’t resentful or useless turds (anymore then we already have). Both of those two things can be dealt with. Multiple other countries use this system and are successful with it. Make it a basic 2 year commitment upon high school graduation with minimal “advanced” training or more years depending on the cost of advanced training they “elect”. Of course, their are still screenings of who they let in (medical/physical limitations). Once it’s the standard or normalcy, then it is accepted. Makes me wonder what our immigration rate would be if everybody knew that once granted citizenship and considering medical/physical/age limitations, that they would immediately be required to serve in our military....🤔

Gavrie Capili it doesn’t have to be. Serve your 2 years and leave. That would be the basic NORMAL requirement. It wouldn’t be a volunteer thing, unless they choose to serve longer. Just think, the average high school graduating class is 200 people, currently only ONE of them will volunteer to serve our country in the military; on average. That is scary. Now with no more military retirement offered, its only gonna get worse.

Ssgt. Pippin, if you're out there, I just wanted to say that people like you are what make the military of our nation one that no one should mess with. And even though I do not have any thoughts of joining the military, especially the Marines, I have deep respect for those serving.

I love the videos of initial indoc. They seem hard but fair. When the camera's go off... it's game faces on.

Sgt Pippin, have you seen Sgt Merry? I asked Lt's Frodo and Sam and they haven't seen him either.

Hell yeah. I think quite a few of us get a smile on our face when remembering it.

I wasn't a marine...I was army...but in all branches it never ceases to amaze me how every1 forgets which side is left and which side is right...it has happened to us all

God it’s like having attack dogs 😂 he says go and they go absolutely nuts while he just stands there looking pleased at the chaos he is creating

A lot of the things we take for granted is part of the attention to detail. Left means left and right means right. We think holding in your hands but if they say pouch in left hand and card in right also shows uniformity. A DI can look down and see all 70 pouches in left hand and all cards in the right. The card in the left hand would stick out and would hate to be that recruit. The not knowing left from right may seem like a joke to us but all attention to detail.

I wish that they’d add at least 3 more weeks to recruit training AND make ALL Marines go through ITB, not just MCT or ITB. If every Marine is a rifleman we ALL need to go through ITB at SOI, and for those who have technical MOSs go on from their three months at SOI to their MOS schools. THAT would strengthen the Corps! THE MARINE CORPS NEEDS THIS! There’s a completely new kind of war in the horizon and it’s going to be global in a manner like never seen before, it’s not going to be like my time in during GWOT after I joined in September 11, 2001. Politicians want to weaken the Corps with political correctness but only Marines can correct this! “Marine Corps, the command was, locate, close with, and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver; repel the enemy assault by fire and close combat, CORRECT YOURSELF!!!” “Aye sir!!”

Our DI's didn't talk like that or make such a dramatic entrance as they do now, you could easily understand them, but, don't let that fool you they were hard as nails, this was mcrdsd in the mid 70's.

Had a Marine in my boot camp platoon that was 32. He was at the end of age limits for joining

My father was a DI for 3 yrs..I thought it would be a cake walk when I went in from being around that controlled insanity and knowing it was all preplanned and very structured as to what happened.I was sorely mistaken! It was a different world being on the receiving end as opposed to "knowing" what was going to occur.

My DI,s were navaho back in the day 1980.

There's a senior, Experienced DI (aka Heavy) and Third Hat. Three is a common number for a platoon.

Shit, i wish my platoon were like that from the beginning. Half of my platoon with the soft ass screams. Shit my recruit training was hard.

When did they outlaw running in the squad bay? I mean, I get it due to safety, but it sure looks weird. We had to damn near sprint to our position on line back in 89, and given how cramped the 3rd battalion barracks were, we had some great collisions and domino falls.

Oh yeah, especially during the first two weeks. You heard a lot of it after Black Friday. I admit, I did too. Black Friday (or Saturday in our case) was a whirlwind of new DIs, an astronomical jump in intensity, and the realization that receiving was just a small taste of the pain to come. That first night in the 3rd Battalion barracks left most with a feeling of "what the hell have I gotten myself into?" Many tears were shed, and one guy in my platoon tried to run off and got caught by MPs down by the 7 day store by 3rd Battalion. We never saw him again.

That night at around 8pm or so, right after the first DIs intro, I saw a goofy guy get choked by all drill instructors. Well, never saw the guy again. That I learned fast not to fuck with these guys and the funny shit was that the guy had raised his goofy hand informing the DIs he had gotten on the wrong bus to the Navy.

Either keep the voice or don’t it’s just kinda funny n weird.. that being said respect to my marine brothers and their DIs 👍
