For all those who have commented or are wondering why the characters would care about wearing unique garments, body piercings, scarification, hairstyles and accessories in a world where everyone is blind, consider this: they identify each other by scent, but what happens when someone dies and they need to find and identify the body? Their sense of smell wouldn’t help then as all the bodies would smell the same - like rot. However, they could identify them by touch. The unique stitches on their clothing, the accessories they wear and their scars are all things that can be felt.

Another thing is that in real life, people like to wear clothes and look pretty even if blind, to other people. And even so, some just do it for themselves. Even blind people wear clothes, i mean, if i was blind, i wouldn't wanna walk up to someone and accidentally touch their "privates" so i'd hope we all wore clothes.

@@cutiepiettvjackson8744 That’s a fair point as well, but my comment was more so to address why the tradition of style and fashion (I guess you could say) would be kept alive after centuries of blindness. There’s a need for it too. And yes, many blind people in real life like to dress and style themselves as well and not just throw anything on because they can’t see. I agree there.

i mean, it makes perfect sense to have those body piercings and modifications. Those blind people literally read with their fingers so they can recognize a person by feeling their body modification/piercings.

You know, I kinda wonder how a population of blind people were able to create such exquisitely designed clothes and weapons. Edit: My point wasn't about saying "oh blind people can't do anything normal". I never once implied that blind people can't accomplish tasks, or live normally. Wasn't the point of my comment. (And if you did get that impression, my apologies). Just that in a society where blindness is the norm, I wouldn't have thought that such people would bother making dresses or clothes that are typical of a fantasy genre, considering doing so no longer would have a practical use. Don't know about you, but if I were in a society who hasn't known vision, living in a post apocalyptic world, where there's an active religion that detests vision, I'd be very focused on practicality than aesthetics.

I'd imagine that sight would seem like a form of telepathy to a human race that has never experienced sight. The same way an alien species with no sense of smell would find our ability to smell, to be an almost infinite form of xray sight. Imagine the fascination from the alien race when you say, "someone is cooking hotdogs a few houses down. And their is a forest burning 3 miles away."

How they avoid assaulting their own team mates.. perhaps they could have expanded the role of the "scentiers" and also gotten them to apply a certain particular smell on all of their own side's soldiers in order to act as a "uniform" in the form of a strong shared smell, in order to prevent attacking their own team mates in the heat of battle.

    1. They actually do have some sound based elements in outfits such as bracelets and rings with bells on them. However, these are reserved for the absolute elite in society. In this case, the bells are worn by princesses/queen/royal family. It makes sense to reserve them for the very few because if all people started wearing bells then it would create an unnecessary cacophony around,as they depend on sound to get information about their surroundings, a large number of people wearing bells or audible fashion would unnecessarily muddle up the environment. 2. The houses are all connected to each other with ropes running through the center of the street in order to act as a guide for all people with guide sticks. Apart from that they don't usually use lighting in their buildings. The grandest and biggest of their buildings are the ones which are surviving from the past 600 or so years from before the virus.
