2:32 You can also say "bicikli" but it's a bit colloquial. 3:50 "Barát" means a male friend, but if a woman says "Ő a barátom" ("He is my friend") it means that guy is her boyfriend but if she says "Ő csak a barátom" ("He is only my friend") or "Ő az egyik/legjobb barátom" ("He is one of my friends"; "He's my best friend") then the woman and the guy are not in a relationship. It's a subtle but important difference. Context is key. 4:18 A more common word for this action is "venni -> vesz". 4:31 A cake at a birthday party is called "torta". For any other kind of cake, the word "sütemény" is okay but the colloquial "süti" is also common. 5:00 "Mobiltelefon" is okay, but it's often shortened to "mobil" or "telefon". 5:25 Another form of this word is "gyermek" but it's rarer. 5:40 You should only say "óra" if the context is clear, otherwise use the word "tanóra". "Óra" can also mean the watch on your wrist, the clock on the wall and an hour of time as well, so context is very important. 6:58 This is a verb, not an adjective. The adjective would be "helyes". 7:06 "Költség" is a common synonym. "Díj" can also mean prize. 7:22 "Marha" is the genderless word for this species. "Tehén" is the female and "bika" is the male version. 7:47 "Vásárló" is another common word for this. 7:55 "Lánya" could be translated as his/her daughter. The word "lány" means girl. 8:10 "Bankkártya" is also used for this, it's more common. 8:51 "Végez" is the word used for doing work ("munkát végez"). "Tesz" and "csinál" are the words for more general activities, but you have to learn when to use them, it depends on context. 9:15 This is a word with the special conjugation "-ik".

I don't know how but Hungarians have a lot of same words as Serbs, for example, we also say bicikli or biciklo, bluz/bluza, butik/butik, macska/macka, medve/medved, torta/torta(we read a as A not as O), vacsora/vecera,lift/lift and so on, it's amazing to me that we have many same words but our nations are totally different, at first I thought we have many same or similar words because of the Ottomans but bicikli wasn't invented when Ottomans ruled over us so HOW??

Hi!! You seem to know Hungarian grammar very wel!! Congratulations! I was wondering if i might ask you a question? this one has been too difficult to understand to me so... , what would be the difference between " a bátyámnak" and "a testvéremnek" ( if i'm not mistaken, which probably i am , both words are conjugated in dative case )...as far as i know both words mean the same. I already tried using many translators but testvéremnek and bátyámnak are always translated into English German and Russian as "brother" and even into Spanish and Greek. I know Hungarian has way more cases than other languages do, Hungarian has seventeen if my memory serves me well. Thank you!! Keep up the good work

Sorry! Me again! i have another question. I hope you have enough spare time to answer it Tudni akarok is correct but tudni akarom isn't, right? I assume i couldn't say: tudni akarom, miért imádom ezt a dalt

@@stopandaid6298 A bátyámnak = For my older brother Az öcsémnek = For my younger brother A nővéremnek = For my older sister A húgomnak = For my younger sister A testvéremnek = For my sibling (it doesn't matter if they are older or younger than you, or if they are male or female) That's pretty much it :D

The sentence you wrote is correct. The difference between indefinite and definite conjugation is not the easiest to grasp, especially with this verb: Tudni akarok. = I want to know. (I want to have an unspecified kind of knowledge) (no object leads to indefinite conjugation) Tudni akarom, (hogy) miért imádom ezt a dalt. = I want to know why I love this song. (in these kind of sentences, with ", hogy...", definite conjugation must be used) Tudni akarok egy verset fejből. = I want to know a poem by heart. ("egy" leads to indefinite conjugation) Tudni akarom az összes verset fejből. = I want to know all the poems by heart. ("a" or "az" leads to definite conjugation)

I'm not sure why "every beginner should know" the words for "lobster", "crab" , "goat" and "turkey".The words for "expensive and "restaurant" are also included, so maybe that's why. 😎 Seriously though, this is a helpful video.

I started learning Hungarian and I hate that every app is teaching you stuff like names of the countries as basics, who the hell needs to know this stuff? I think there are far more important things to learn before the names of countries.

@@nenadpopov3601I agree. Grammar is very important when learning a new language. But instead of teaching basic grammar, these programs teach you rarely used vocabulary words like “crab”. It is very frustrating.

Some feedback.. the Hungarian male speaker doing most of the Hungarian pronunciation.. Your "vocal fry" when you pronounce the Hungarian words doesn't help students. I've not heard male native Hungarians use the " vocal fry" when speaking. In the US, yes, Hungary.. Nope..
