    well from our experience it's what you will use the car for. Autocross or Time Attack, 100% hands down Supercharger, the instant power is awesome. If it's just a fun car turbo will do it. If you go with NA power with ITBs and some work on the engine you could get to 170hp but it will cost a lot.

    StefanSLR I'm guessing with the cold-side S/C they don't need it so much. It would help if they ran the plumbing along the r/h side beside the compressor but that requires a bit of custom fabricating for relocating the coolant overflow and FPR. It also looks a little odd having that piping draped over the engine like it is. Still a solid looking build

    How were you able to do a boosted, larger injectors, flex-fuel Miata on a stock ECU? Incredible build by the way!

  • @thomasvandanelzen2521

    @thomasvandanelzen2521

    3 жыл бұрын

    Ethanol takes about 20% more liquid. The injectors are about 20& larger than stock. ECU thinks it is running stock injectors on gasoline. We make up most of the extra needed fuel with the extra injector. It does double duty as it cools the charge air at the same time.

  • @sander101300

    @sander101300

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@thomasvandanelzen2521 Got ya, and I assume that the injectors (although bigger than stock) are still small enough so that when you run 93 the ECU can still compensate for the larger injectors...? How were you able to add boost? Does the stock ECU just see it as a great amount of air through a MAF and then compensate accordingly with more fuel? Thanks so much!!!

  • @thomasvandanelzen2521

    @thomasvandanelzen2521

    3 жыл бұрын

    It doesn't compensate well with gasoline and larger injectors. Once you switch to E85, you need to stay there. especially if you run a larger pulley as gasoline does not cool the charge air as well as alcohol. You would also have to switch back to a smaller pulley. You add boost by running a larger pulley ratio. Yes. Correct. The MAF sees a larger mass of air and adds a corresponding larger mass of fuel. That is why you need larger injectors for ethanol as ethanol has a smaller mass per unit volume than gasoline.

    Does supercharging a car make its mpg worse?

  • @MX5Unleashed

    @MX5Unleashed

    9 жыл бұрын

    Nick Villecco that is a good question, if you drive with gas mileage in mind, which is very gently, you highway mpg should actually be better. BUT people that get their car boosted usually drive way harder because it's fun, which makes you gas mileage way worse.

  • @thomasvandanelzen2521

    @thomasvandanelzen2521

    7 жыл бұрын

    camyota We got 18 psi with 130mm crank pulley and 65mm supercharger pulley. When we put the 140mm crank pulley on with the 65mm supercharger pulley, we got 21psi and about 340bhp.

  • @camyota

    @camyota

    dang!! impressive. pardon my French but y'all are revving the piss out of it ain't ya!? reason I ask is the kit I have on my Tacoma uses the same MP-62 blower and right now I'm using a 60mm pulley on it and not sure what the crank pulley is but I'm getting right at 10psi. I was told the smaller pulley they offer(I think 56) was pushing it for over revving this blower and that would only put me at around 12 ish psi...

  • @thomasvandanelzen2521

    @thomasvandanelzen2521

    7 жыл бұрын

    Actually, at 130/65, I am only spinning the blower 14,000 rpm at 7,000 rpm engine speed. Magnuson life tests at 16,000 rpm. I know several people who have spun the MP62 at 20,000 reliably. Keep in mind that boost is simply the result of the engine to flow the air. My engine is only 1.8L. We ran the MP62 on the 4.0L Jeep six cylinder and spun it a lot faster to get to 10 psi. What is the displacement of your engine. Keep in mind also that supercharger pulleys smaller than 65mm don't have a lot of belt wrap anymore. Measure the face of your crank pulley to get the blower speed.

  • @camyota

    @camyota

    7 жыл бұрын

    that makes sense. mine is a 2.7L with a rev limit at 5600rpm. I'm thinking about getting a custom crank pulley made to increase boost because I already get a little belt slip sometimes. I'll have to measure the pulley when I get home to see. hopefully I can get a few more psi out of it before I overrev it.

  • @thomasvandanelzen2521

    @thomasvandanelzen2521

    keep in mind that if you increase the diameter of the crank pulley, you will also spin the AC, PS, Alternator and water pump faster. Don't get too carried away with that size,

  • @bhearts77

    @bhearts77

    jason hernandez you know the biggest downfall to positive displacement superchargers...heating. where 15psi from a turbo is typical of doubling stock power numbers. 15psi from a roots blower may only net you 75 percent power gain. the supercharger is in place as an exhaust gas increaser, for quicker turbo spools that way a bigger than normal turbo can be ran with less lag.

    I am still running a 1999 5 speed. If you are headed for 250hp, the transmission will have no issues. Above what we like to see on a stock engine though. However, we several people on E85 at and above that level on the stock engine.
