30 Things Your Dog Wishes You Knew

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, we’ll talk about 30 things that your dogs can’t tell you, but wish you knew.
If I yawn, it doesn’t mean I’m sleepy
While I may sometimes yawn when I am tired, I also yawn when I’m stressed or scared. If you see me yawning a few times, pay attention to the environment around me.
If I’m acting differently or hiding, I’m sick
if you notice me acting strange or different, chances are I'm not feeling well. I might be in pain or sick.
I don’t understand why you change up the rules all the time
Don’t rile me up when you leave the house
The more you make a fuss about saying hello or goodbye to me, the more I’ll feel anxiety-and my destructive symptoms will play out when you’re not home.
Just like you, I can’t hold it for more than a few hours
My bladder and muscles can’t “Hold it” for more than a few hours. If I have a potty accident, don’t get angry with me. I did it because I am physically incapable of holding it for too long.
My Memory Isn't as Good as Yours
If I do something wrong, you need to tell me right away, because I’m simply not going to remember later.
I don’t feel guilt or shame, even if you think I look like it
I don’t really feel the complex emotions that you do.
I don’t try to be funny when I lick my behind.
If you notice me licking my behind, or dragging my bottom on the ground, it’s a sign that something is irritating me. I usually relieve my pain by licking myself or scooting.
I only have YOU
You have your work, entertainment, and your friends. I only have you.
I know it is cold or hot, but please don’t rush me when you take me out to go potty.
I can’t handle heat as easily as you do
I can get heat stroke easily, even in the spring.
During summer days, the asphalt and pavement can get really hot. You wear shoes and you can dress lighter, but I have lots of fur and I don’t wear sneakers to guard my paws against the hot pavement. Plus, I don’t sweat, and my internal cooling system isn’t as effective as yours.
My bad breath could be a sign that I am sick
My bad breath could be a sign of kidney problem, dental disease, a rotten tooth.
Please don’t watch horror movies with me
I have a much greater hearing sensitivity than you do. I hate the loud noises, bangs or shocks, such as those found in horror movies.
Give me the right food
I don’t choose my food, and I have to eat whatever you feed me. Please don’t change my food just because something is on sale. Some foods don’t agree with my stomach, and a sudden change of diet can cause me health issues like vomiting or diarrhea.
If lick my lips, it doesn’t always mean I’m anticipating food.
While I may lick my lips when I see a yummy treat, I also lick them when I am anxious, or when there is a threat around me. This is how I try to appease a person or dog who I perceive as a threat. And that’s why you see me licking my lips when you scold me.
Please watch my body language and remove me from stressful situations.
I prefer blue and yellow toys.
I don’t see colors the way you do. I see mainly blue and yellow wavelengths, which means I am red-green color blind. To me, red looks brownish. If you throw a red ball for me to fetch, it blends in with the grass color and I can hardly see it.
Honestly, I don’t understand what you’re saying
When you speak to me, I don’t understand your words.
Your couch saves me from your hardwood floors
My paws are made for gripping natural terrain. I am not designed to walk on hardwood floors and smooth surfaces such as tile. These surfaces are especially painful when I am old and suffer from arthritis.
If you see me hiding, barking, whining, or acting erratically, chances are, something is wrong. My sense of smell and hearing are much better than yours. I can smell things that you can’t. To put it into perspective, I can smell a spritz of perfume in an enclosed stadium. I can even smell precisely how much sugar is in your coffee.
I don’t like the scents you like
What smells good to you doesn’t smell pleasant to me. When you wash me with a scented shampoo, I have to roll on the stinkiest thing I can find to change my smell. Don’t get mad at me. It’s just in my nature and I have a very powerful nose.
Take me to the vet every once a while…I can’t tell you when I am sick.
I’m not always happy when I’m wagging my tail
I express many different emotions by my tail movements. Sometimes I wag my tail to say I am friendly and happy, but I also wag my tail to tell people or dogs I’m nervous, threatened, or angry.
Take me with you when you travel.
Instead of leaving me at pet sitter’s home, take me with yourself. I certainly deserve a trip to a new place.
I don’t enjoy crowded parties
While I am a social animal, I don’t like loud or crowded places.
I always love you!
I wish I could tell you how much I love you. Even when you’re upset with me, I’m so grateful to live with you.

I adopted my Bella 8/1/11 from Orange County Animal Services FL. She was 7 months old. I've spent nearly every hour of every day (I'm retired/disabled) with her. The only time I've spent a night away from her was when having surgery. She is the only reason I'm still here. I love her so much

My point was that if you are hospitalized or in a position were you are unable to even care for yourself, you can’t care for your dog either. In a position were people would have to give up their children basically, that’s the same situation were giving up your dog is acceptable.

Josephine Nilsson Life can put you in some horrible positions. I lived remotely with a wonderful "pigging" dog. We kept each other alive in the wilderness for years. When I rejoined society he was a very dangerous animal, not his fault. After 18months and several nightmare scenarios (attacking other animals and showing extreme aggression towards strangers) I had to euthanise my best mate. I looked for a solution for 18 months but he was what he was. Not trying to bumb you out, just a reminder that life can be very nuisanced.

”bum you out” - do you think I live in a Disney movie? - I am a very cynical person and I’ve heard every freaking excuse in the book from people who justify their own lack of responsibility for themselves. If he was yours and in your care there is no freaking way in hell you had any right to euthanize him. The fact that you are even considering that an option with your own dog and then blaming “reality” only speaks to what value you put on his life. You had responsibility for him, and if the current situation was unsustainable you should have changed your situation. There is _always_ other ways if not finding a way isn’t an option. If it is regarding the well being of a family member, there is _always_ a way. You just resorted to killing your dog because obviously that was an option to you.

Josephine Nilsson Well you do live in a Disney movie. Look at the amazing Josephine levitating above us mortals lol What would you have done, return to remote living and knowingly let the medical conditions that made you return to society kill you. Silly question, of course you would, your that wonderful. Maybe you'd just wait for the dog to kill more dogs or someone's kid because your that committed, right? Your a complete child

I had to buy an area rug, because my dogs "elbows" were going bald and he was having trouble getting up. So I went to Walmart and spent 18 dollars for this rug. He no longer has trouble getting up, his hair has grown back on his elbows, and he even stopped limping. Best 18 dollars I ever spent.

Whenever I say treat, my Pitbull's ears perk up and he stares at me. My Shepard-lab walks over to her dog bowl, because that's normally where I put her treats. Whenever I say Hungry or Food, my Shepard Lab Adel runs over to her bowl and prances around as she only eats once a day. Jax, the Pitbull, does the same thing as Adel except he rams his head into the cabinet that contains dog food until I open it. Very fun in my house having poop and pee everywhere, fun.

I always told my dog when I was leaving for work, and I would always say, "Wait for mama." He would pick up his ears and wag his tail. I know he understood, since I did it 5 times a week. He would always be waiting at the gate barking at the same time everyday. So, they can tell time, too!

My father used to travel a lot for like 15 or 20 days and my 8-year-old dog named Bel would always know before the whole household. The reason we knew it was the day he commed back was because se would behave differently on that day. So they can't only tell time, but days.

The one with them getting sick or old really resonates with me. We had a border collie that got hit buy a car when he was 11. His back left leg dislocated and luckily that was the only thing wrong with him. We were told to make sure he didn't walk on it. We took turns for 3 months sleeping down stairs with him and made sure he stayed down for the night. We had towels that we held under him to lift him up and to help him walk outside and go to the toilet. We even hand fed him everyday and he got use to it so much he expected it once he was finally able to walk. But the day he walked again was the greatest. Hobbling, but walking. But once we finally got to that stage, we had to keep him downstairs all the time. The baby gate made him stressed and his hair started falling out. We decided to try and get him up and downstairs assisted. So I would spend every night shuffling him up every step so that he was upstairs with us when we went to bed. He took a long time each step but it helped him and his hair stopped falling out. Miss him loads. Most intelligent and polite dog you'd ever meet.

Dogs don't understand words but they recognize the sound of the word. That's why while training them, an action is taught before the word, it's easier forthem to pick up commands. When we talk in sentences, they usually pick up on our tone of voice to understand whether we are scolding them or are happy with them

"I dont enjoy crowded parties" My dog: Literally the Great Gatsby. Really tho big parties are his favorite. He loves attention and meeting new people. ESPECIALLY MEETING NEW PEOPLE. Walking him on the sidewalk is a hassle because any person we walk by he's gonna say hello to.

I swear my dog can understand what I say. The dog barks and gets excited (not in a good way) when he hears a gunshot. (I live in the country) The loud ear piercing barks. I say" yes I heard it too, it's OK" he stops barking. Yesterday, gunshots,or car backfire, he starts barking I say his name, you're saying it wrong, this is the way to say it. I whisper "Woof" he says in a low tone "woof". I kid you not. I hug him and give him a cookie.

I love this video. Thank you. My beautiful 9 yr old Maltese has never run away from me & he’s so used to being off a lead. About 3 weeks ago he was let out of the car to go to my friends house but decided to take a walk into the Rd … never done that b4 … a car was coming but luckily it braked but … the sound of the screech it made scared him & he bolted it. He ran so fast that neither myself or my husband could catch up with him. Lost him for an hour & a half … felt like a lifetime. Luckily a lovely couple found him & called me as my details were on his tag 🙏 … Thank God 🙏 … I can’t imagine my life without him …!!! Unconditional love for sure 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

I have had my miniature poodle, Lucy for 14 years. I can really see her going down hill now. She has cataracts in both eyes, has limited hearing, and terrible arthritis in her back hip. I have been to the vet and they can’t help her and keep giving her anti inflammatory meds, and pain relievers but I know it is getting worse. I carry her up and down stairs, and she still runs around and tries to keep up with everyone. I love her, but I’m now thinking maybe I’m being selfish trying to keep her a bit longer. This will be the first dog I have ever had to consider putting to sleep. It is a terrible decision to have to make. I guess what I’m saying is make the most of the time you get, it’s hard to say goodbye.

Another thing to do when your dog scoots their butt is to give them pumpkin just some caned pumpkin because their poop may be too soft and getting stuck on their but which they do not like. The pumpkin will help harden the poop.

honestly, it's really sad that if I tell this to my family, they will never believe me, in fact, they will just judge me instead, telling me i'm a "weirdo" and it's "fake". Remember, don't get a dog if you don't like responsibilities, their not you.

I really hate when people get an animal to make them feel happy or because they might be lonely, but don't look after them properly. Or some people just buy a dog to protect their house or make them feel safe, but always leave the dog outside or never spend time with them or take them anywhere. Dogs are great animals and would do anything for you, they deserve a good owner.
