Great choice of pictures of 'then' and 'now' especially the pictures of places in Germany that have been totally been built to how they looked originally....

Great pictures! Not sure why but I like the ones that are alike except for the traffic.

2:15: I recently visited the "Frauenkirche" and it is absolutely beautiful! I take it the odd black stones in the facade are original stones. It was rebuilt from private donations and names of the donors are on display in the basement.

I'm curious of the architecture and construction of buildings around the world that last over 100 years.

Greetings.. I enjoyed looking at your thoughtful collection of pictures.. I googled Portobello Beach, thinking it would make a great getaway.. I've always wanted to go to Scotland.. I'm imagining a warm summer day spent there.. it's 19°F here with a skiff of snow.. thank you.. blessings!

These were only set up for the World exhibition of 1900. the buildings were called „Houses of the nations“ and were meant to be disassembled after the event. The Eiffel Tower was erected for the event and was supposed to be scrapped after the exhibition too, but the population had grown to love it by then, so they left it.

I love the architecture of old buildings, I feel modern architecture lacks the constructional engenuity of buildings of old, and are not so good visually and lack real charm and character of buildings of yesteryear

I guess the buildings in America were not built to last, unlike Europe’s.
