30 popular Beatles songs that surprisingly failed to hit #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts
Музыка
#Beatles #thebeatles #hitsongs
The Beatles had 20 #1 songs on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts. In 1965 they passed Elvis Presley to take over 1st place. The Beat Boys had a lot of hits, but not every song was #1. Granted, they didn't release singles in the latter part of their career and early in their career they released so many singles the songs competed against each other for chart space. We compiled a list of popular Beatles songs that surprisingly didn't hit #1.

But wait... some of these songs were not released as singles, just regular albums tracks... and some were just the B-side of the single...

The Beatles still made their millions from them anyway.
John's vocal of Twist and Shout for me remains he best ever. Eleanor Rigby abd Strawberry Fields are simply too brilliant to even be associated with charts.
I agree with you Sir; all these songs in your video, should and could easily be #1. Thank you for pointing it out. Kind regards.
Twist and Shout was #2 because Cant Buy Me Love was #1 in April 1964. Something was the B-side to Come Together which was #1 in US
Forever! Forever! Forever! 😊😊😊❤❤❤
All great songs, Twist & Shout is in a lot of party playlists still today, all great songs in the list. Here comes the sun is apparently a great hit on Spotify today too
Nice work, well done

@@themalt-tonesbandnorthof8m593you forgot Free as a bird & Real love. Plus their most recent Now & Then #1 in the UK but #7 in the states.
I'm amazed that most of these were ever released as singles in the USA. I knew that the Beatles strongly disliked the way that their material was being marketed in America but I hadn't realised until now just how much Capitol records completely over-exploited the US market. They must have been releasing Beatles singles every twenty minutes. Crass exploitation.

I know right. Can you imagine today, a band as big as the Beatles with no say on the North American market?? It would be like Taylor Swift not having a say in her music released in Europe.

It was terrible. Check out the USA version of Revolver. A few of the best songs were cut from the US version and released separately in order to charge nearly double for what was intended to be a single full length album. Magical Mystery Tour USA version was trimmed down too compared to the UK version. I'm sure there are other examples too that I'm not aware of.
the dramatic voiceover has me cracking up 😂 seriously though how did eleanor rigby not hit #1
Twist and Shout was released as an EP in the UK and reached#4 in the singles chart
Actually Something did reach Number one on the Hot 100 It was co-number one with Come Together. They released the songs as a double A side.
Just proves the American music public, just like today, wouldn't recognise good music if it hit them in the face.

How? They hit number one on the US Billboard chart more than any artist in history, so clearly enough people in America recognized their music. No musical artist in history has sold more records in the US. Many of these songs just weren't singles, so they weren't eligible to chart at the time. Some of these songs were b-sides so they didn't get much of a commercial push, and others were blocked from #1 by other songs that are now classics, including other Beatles songs. It's not possible for any musician to chart at #1 100% of the time on every chart in the world.

The biggest surprise is Eleanor Rigby outstanding lyrics . It kept God only knows by the Beach Boys off the Top Spot in the UK . GREATEST TOP 2 EVER.
Many of these songs were never released as 45s. “Something” most certainly hit #1 on the U.S. Billbiard charts. By that time (1969), flip sides no longer charted separately, and- along with “Cone Together”, it hit the top. Tidbit: “I’ll Follow The Sun” was a single in Norway. Reached #10.
Your "#28", "Something", DID reach number 1; the week of November 29, 1969, the "joint entry", "Something"/"Come Together" was #1. Thus, while the Beatles had 20 "#1 entries" on the Billboard charts, this consisted of *_21_* songs! Another song that ALMOST made #1 was "Do You Want to Know a Secret", reaching #2 the week of May 9, 1964.
We all know the Beatles could've had more #1s but you are mentioning songs released by the companies after they split well and truly down the line and also songs only released in other countries. Now for example All My Loving was so popular that though not released in the USA was neverless smuggled across the border somewhat and thereby making a splash on the charts. I've added up the Beatles #1s around the woeld which comes to 50 or 51 if you count Norwegian Wood in rural Australia. The Beatles only released a song off every second album with half in the UK going it alone ( With The Beatles , Beatles For Sale , Rubber Soul , Sgt Peppers ' , The White Album not having any singles off) . I note also that after the mistake of the issuing of a double A side with PL/SFF failing to get #1 position though outselling Humperdinck's Release Me by 40% they didn't repeat that boob till Abbey Road where CT/S also failed to reach #1 ! 🤡 s Release Me by 40% they didn't repeat that

Also they often blocked their songs with a different song. One was #1 preventing the other to be #1... ditto for some early albums.
Well most of these weren't actually released as singles, so there's that.
I grew up in Germany in the 1960’s. Some of the songs you’re listing here made it to #1 there. Many other British (non Beatles) songs charted in Germany, but not at all in the US. In fact, some British bands are virtually unknown here in the US - which I loved growing up! The Oldies stations tend to play the same songs over and over again. Be nice to switch it up once in a while!
Narrator recorded his comments in a cathedral
Michelle should also have been #1 ! Its a beautiful ballad sung partly in French along with the likes of Hey Jude and Yesterday.
Best group

How do you know they failed to be n° 1 in the US? Elvis has more hits that surprisingly failed to hit #1 in the US alone!

You need to pick songs released as singles
If you look at each week on the charts, most were the sign of the times.. then you throw in a beatles song and suddenly your in the major leagues and artistry... I do not think people understood what they were hearing... they were creative and ahead of their times... most others on the chart were doing variations of what was out there... cliche for the style whether The Supremes or Tom Jones or the Beach Boys.... People don't have any references for Strawberry Fields.

Capitol records took Beatles album tracks and released them as singles against the wishes of the band. They also butchered the UK albums to make 2 albums. Revolver for me is the best album ever, but Capitol absolutely destroyed it. The Beatles b-sides like This Boy, You Can't Do That, She's A Woman, Rain, I Am The Walrus, Revolution, Don't Let Me Down, Old Brown Shoe, were brilliant and some were better than the a-side.
Hard to believe many of these songs never made it to #1. They were so good, that most of these songs would have been number one by any other Bands.
There was a lot of garbage on the top 40. When the Beatles got more experimental there were enough who couldn't deal with it to keep those songs from #1.
what the hell is this video? yeah, duh they didn't chart, they weren't released as singles. why did i watch this video?
😅 do you want to know a secret number two she's a woman at number two roll over Beethoven at number 29 from me to you hit number 43
Weirdness.......
This is full of shit....many were never released as singles others were B sides to #1 hits.
