I like packing at least the day before because I use a luggage scale to measure how heavy the suitcase is. Doing it in advance allows me time to get a replacement scale or batteries if it doesn't work.

Starting to pack a week ahead is a must! Glad I'm not the only one. Of course most of my trips were to conventions, staying at a hotel for several days, so I had to decide what sci-fi shirts I wanted to wear, uniforms for Cosplay (Trek, Babylon 5, etc.), all that. Gotta stand out at a comic con or sci-fi convention!

Thanks Chris. I have some compression packing cubes that work with zippers that help save space. Also they now make a solid stick sunscreen so you won't have to worry about liquids limit if going carryon only.

Hi Chris. Thanks for the list. I'm guilty of some of those things. I now use packing cubes , mostly because of the items I bring back. I also use the Amazon Prime packages with the bubble wrap in it. I used that to pack fragile items and put them in the packing cubes. Also forgetting to pack a power bank can ruin a trip. Thanks for sharing and take care.

Besides packing cubes, I also like to at a hanging closet. Maybe it’s my cheaper hotels (when compared to the ones you seem to book), however I feel the closet isn’t always great (or existing), but a rack for hangers (or your hanging closet) is.

I actually have an IKEA carry on. Wheels are good enough, but I mainly liked the clip-on backpack that was included. I can have one thing if I want or I’ll put the clothes in the big part in the overhead compartment and have my electronics in the tiny backpack between my legs

Hi Chirs, have you ever had the "just in case I need it" mentality? I'm not sure if it's a packing mistake. How do you deal with "just in case" items? And have you encountered an "I should have brought it" moment?

  • @YellowProductions

Hi George.. yes. But I generally try to say Can I buy it there? And is it under $20? If so. I probably don't need it just in case. My biggest regret has tended to be when I don't bring an umbrella 😀

Some countries are more transparent than others when it comes to what medications are banned, and which are not. Japan for example, has a feature on its customs website in which you just type in tge name of the active ingredient, and it simply tells you if you can bring it or not. On the other end of that spectrum, Indonesia doesn't publish any list whatsoever of what medications they do or don't allow. Instead, they allow their customs officers to make arbitrary, on the spot decisions on whether it's illegal or not. In any case, I find a good starting point to be the US Department of State's country specific information pages to be good for research, because they will tell you in the health info section if there are specific requirements, or they will give you links to the information. Most countries have their own equivalents of the State Department's website.

I really want to get 26” Level 8 Voyageur checked for a two week bag and their protective cover that they said is TSA approved for check in so it doesn’t come out all banged up by baggage handlers. But I looked at the Better Business Bureau site and also some reviews and some people complained about those bags. Hard to know as do you only post reviews and complaints when you’re upset about something?? I’m liking Level 8 better than Quince. Thoughts anyone??

1st id like to say i got 3 more valuable tips from this video and im a savvy traveler! 2nd follow up question- i rewatched your osmo pocket 3 vid. I understand you love it but my question is whether it is worth paying $600 for the upgraded equipment or staying with gimple and phone setup if money is a concern? THANKS Chris!!!

  • @YellowProductions

Great to hear and Thanks for your support Boomertuber! If money is concern then stay with what you've got if it works for you. Also I like the low light performance of the Osmo Pocket (much better than my Galaxy S24 Ultra). I also like the size and simplicity of the Osmo Pocket.... I have essentially retired my DJI Gimbal once I got the Osmo Pocket for shots where I needed a gimbal. I still use the S24 Ultra for quick shots to just pull out of my pocket... I also still use the S24 Ultra on a selfie stick or tripod when I don't need a gimbal (I'm not moving)

Also very important- for ADHDers- Adderall is a grade A banned substance in most countries. Even with your prescription it risks jail time in many places. Same with Vicodin

That sounds ridiculous if it’s true. There shouldn’t be a problem if it’s in a prescription bottle. I’ll be bringing my pain med for my chronic back condition as well as blood pressure meds. So far, I’ve had no problems.

@@reneeburich9497 depends on the place. Per the US embassy website in Japan: "Japan takes stimulants like Adderall the most seriously, with the potential for 10-year imprisonment. Many common medications and over-the-counter drugs in the United States are illegal in Japan. It does not matter if you have a valid U.S. prescription for a medicine/drug that is illegal in Japan: if you bring it, you risk arrest and detention by the Japanese authorities.”

I’d like to pass this along: if you travel to Walt Disney World and, say, you like to collect those special limited edition sculpted tiki mugs they have periodically. Leave room in your luggage for those mugs because WDW _will not_ ship them to your home address! This is because they won’t ship food-related schwag and tiki mugs are considered food-related. I almost had to leave behind a $70 Nautilus drink container; a very wonderful, dedicated cast member found a way to pack it in my suitcase and saved the day.
