I have group instruction on Patreon. www.patreon.com/englishwithjennifer The best time to join is the first of the month. You could join now, but there's only one more live event. We're reading a short story now, and we'll discuss it this coming week via a livestream. The other two events were held on Zoom, which is generally better for interaction.

Hello madam , hope you are doing well. This is the only favorite show my family and I have in common. Is this sentence correct?
@Englishwithjennifer

I'd say, "This is the only show my family and I watch together," or "This is the only show my family and I all like."

Hello!
Good morning, Mam. I can't get this structure of personal and in personal . Ex: It is assumed that he is from New York.( impersonal) He is assumed to be New York ( personal) .I don't understand why second sentence is considered personal construction and the first one is impersonal. Because in the second sentence ( personal structure) still people assume that he is from New York no the person ( he) is talking about himself
@Englishwithjennifer
2 жыл бұрын
Hello. I think it's misleading to talk about "persona" and "impersonal." You're giving examples of passive and active verbs. It's a change in focus. However, both express that this is only an assumption. "It is (assumed, thought, believed, etc.)" is a way we talk about general opinion. We report assumptions and common beliefs this way.
Hello madam , hope you are doing well. Please correct me in case of any grammatical mistake. Nowadays some people are so obsessed with celebrities' lifestyles. They are avidly curious to know what the sought after folks they look up to are up to and exude obliviousness to important issues.
@Englishwithjennifer
2 жыл бұрын
It's fine, though the second sentence is rather wordy. The repetition of "up to" could be avoided. "Sought-after" is usually hyphenated. www.learnersdictionary.com/definition/sought%20after
