30. Fly Fishing Easy Washing Line Leader Set Up With No Droppers

Спорт

Easy fly fishing for trout with a washing line leader method, showing how to set up a washing line with no long droppers & how to make the leader knots required to attach the trout flies that you will be fishing. Best used with dry flies in shallow rivers, but can be used on any stillwater venue.
The Red line is for demo purpose only, so that you can see the knot being tied.
This washing line method is Ideal for stillwater trout waters when fishing buzzer flies and for dry fly fishing on small to medium depth rivers. When fishing a trout river you have just dry flies on the leader. i.e beetles, spiders etc no floating booby required.

    After years of YT not finding !any" good fly fishing videos for me, they have started not long ago. This one was pretty interesting, and even though I probably never will end up using this, it was worth my time. One question though - have you done any strength tests on this set-up.?

    On my local river the fish run to about an average of 1kg, I use 4lb line, but I've never had two fish on at the same time to test it. Best used with dry flies to give the fish a selection and then find out which one it likes.

    As long as you degrease the leader, the flies should take the line below the surface. I use Eagle Tex, This method I also use with a team of dry flies in shallow water.

    MD thanks for sharing this setup and knot. I’m going to try it this weekend. Tell me this have you noticed less or more hook ups compared to dropper setups? I’m going to try this with midge sink tip with a floating pinpoint fly

    Only recommendation I’d add is bit of moisture on the knot before setting tight to reduce heat and friction🔥

    Hi Stephen Its sometimes better for catching in sallow rivers, but the hook ups are the same. In fact am using this method on a water this week with buzzers as i don't want to get too many tangles and the fish are very close to the surface and as long as the leader is just under the surface that will be ok for me. Thanks For watching Regards MD

    This is a great method of tying droppers, I even use this on venues where only 1 fly is allowed 😳😳😳😳, I cut the hook off a sparkly blob just leaving the eye and the sparkly bits, this now becomes a sparkling attractor with no hook, use this in conjunction with a damsel or snake 7-9ft away on the point and it’s deadly. You’re only using 1 fly that can catch anything.

    That could be the case, at some waters here I can only have 2 flies attached and then they have to be no bigger than a size 12.

    This is really interesting. I can see how it would avoid tangles. Is there any difference in catch rate if you compare this method against standard droppers? I guess that a standard dropper would have the advantage of being able to move about more in the water and look more natural. Could you comment on that, please? Thanks for video. Just subscribed.

    Hello, It is the way to stop tangles and your leader getting messed up, but its best used on a rippled water with buzzers or fished on a river with a few dry flies. The catch rate on stillwaters I can not comment on, but on my local river it is very good with mixed dry flies and then after a few takes it narrows down which dry to use if you want to just fish a single on the point.

  • @mdflyfishinguk5220

    @mdflyfishinguk5220

    Hi I make up a number of these leaders set ups with different buzzers or dries beforehand and add the required leader when required if am only using one rod. But if you don't have any other leader options then yes you would need to remove the leader. I will fish 2 floating lines 1 this method and the second being a single fly set up for apps, fry, sedges & eggs etc.

    Hi Cider Man, no reason why not as long as you have a good leader, might be a problem if 2 good fish take at the same time, used this method on rivers with spiders in shallow water 2ft etc. but then again at some stillwaters I fish 2 apps bloodworm worms at once, one at 6ft and then tie off the hook shank of the first fly to the eye of the point fly at 12ft. strange but it works and I also fish a team of cormorants like that on an intermediate line. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aJmfq6htqprOirA.html
