The worst part is that for us is kinda true this post i saw on tumblr(? can't remember) that appeared in my Pinterest. "What people don't understand is that who you are and how you react to certain scenarios and situations are 10% your character and 90% environmental stuff that is completely outside of your control." And while at the time I didn't agree with this for the majority of people the more I thought about it...Like, this describes what having AD(H)D is so well is scary.

I wish I had known how little impact my actions had when I was raising my ADD kids. I could have given up some control and relaxed a little. This was a great course and I learned so much! Thank you

But here you are, having already raised them, and still trying to deepen your understanding of ADHD. You cared, deeply. That over and above anything else has done right by them. Take it from me, someone diagnosed as an adult who didn't benefit from any accommodations growing up, or from any parental understanding of the condition: having been raised by wonderful people who cared deeply has been possibly the greatest blessing I have had :)

I'm not even going to watch it. I'm 39 was diagnosed with ADD at 39 and began taking medication and now my life is completely changed, it is as if a switch turned on and now I'm a function human being, and before I was just a messy blob.

Wow! What a truly excellent display of personal and academic success mixed with the realism, wit, and human beingness we can all relate to. Congratulations, sir✨🥳🤘😎✌️😍✨⭐️

I watched it all and came to a horrifying realisation, that my whole life is going to be miserable. I live in a country where there is no Ritalin or Vyvanse or Adderall or anything. There is Strattera, but it's too damn expensive. I can't leave the country. I'm over a max threshold dose of Effexor (prescribed by my psychiatrist), and it's not enough. Symptoms are getting worse, and there are no prospects ahead. That stern voice Dr Barkley used when he was explaining to parents that ADHD is a real disability... now I know it too, and I have no hope whatsoever -- there is no way I could stabilize my life or even stop it from going down the hill. I have managed to stop using drugs and abusing alcohol, I don't drive, but there are a lot of other ways to die. While I won't actively seek death, I'm sure as hell it will catch up with me soon.

same situation here. well i still have hope to manage my life at least at some degree. at least 30% from 25 age is 17 and now i finally start to work with my problems, so... im kidding i have no hope left

Writing everything down that I want or need to remember has been a life saver for me. I was diagnosed with adhd at 4 years old and I refuse to take medication because it gives me terrible mood swings. There is hope without medication.

Knowing our diagnosis is a major step; the most meaningful thing. Ignorance is NOT bliss. Let's keep seeking insights and write things down, post-its, and increase our self-awareness. If 75% of us get help with meds, that's not 100%, and seeking self-awareness and tools can work for everyone, even a little.

Keep a diary. Ask God to show himself, plead, and God is not deserting us. He knows us and everyday is not wholly dark.

I felt the same way.

I know ADHD and bipolar are both genetic. My question is can bipolar skip generations? If you didn’t inherit bipolar and have a parent can your kid be passed bipolar? What if only your uncle has bipolar? What if only your grandparent has bipolar? What type of bipolar are we talking about?

The worse thing about this is ik I'll never be able to explain any of it to my parents or get them to watch these videos without them acting like they know better than a professional in the field by oversimplifying everything he says or claiming bullshit.

What a silly question to ask. How do they think they would have preformed any proper scientific studies without having a Placebo control group. Just gave him the opportunity to brag about the high identification and benefit rates of stimulants. The positive affects of Stimulants have been used in the Military for almost a Century if not already. Even those were placebo based tests, though the chemistry and direct reasons for functionality hadn't been confirmed yet. Placebo testing is the first most basic form of testing and data comparisons.

You don't have to be a mechanic to work on your car, especially for basic maintenance/comprehension, why do you need to be a scientist to figure this out? That's a cop out excuse. It is common knowledge that stimulants are not placebo. Placebo won't allow you to stay up for a week (meth, extreme example) straight. You don't have to be a scientist to know this. Just apply a little bit of what you were taught in junior high and high school science and some logical reasoning. It's not a new class of drugs. I bet every single one of those parents has to have their coffee to function at work, if not, they know darn well caffeine stimulation isn't a placebo. As Nathan said (a year ago) stimulants have been used by the military for a very long time including meth. They've been used by indigenous people for much longer than that. Meth and coke addicts aren't addicted to a placebo effect...and who doesn't know that Coca-Cola used to put cocaine in their soda? The weight loss pills from a few decades ago didn't work via placebo. Stimulants have a long and well-known history of having a direct pharmacological effect on the human body and brain.

Actually Barkley you ignorant fuck, there are MANY reasons why a person should NOT be medicated. What if they don’t want them? Don’t like them? Have negative reactions to them? Have an unsafe person around who will steal them? They make a person feel worse? They don't do anything for a person? The diagnosis is wrong? Some people have better coping strategies Some people don't need them? What if the person has faked the ADHD to get the drugs like Richard Fee?

Try a different one, there are many medications and many regimes available today - Have an unsafe person around who will steal them? Deal with that person! If you fall into the 10% that don't respond to these drugs, that's tough life. - The diagnosis is wrong? That could lead to many more serious problems than taking stimulants at the doses prescribed for ADHD. And then, just deal with it. - Some people have better coping strategies ? Good for them their situation is already better than those who require meds to function. - Some people don't need them? ... - What if the person has faked the ADHD to get the drugs like Richard Fee? @@Elephantypus the issue is that an adhd person can take that stimulant and 10 mins or an hour later be asleep the stimulant is used to raise the level of neurotransmitters to a base level
