Same thing happened to me! I fasted coffee for a bit. Started noticing positive effects on sleep and more energy in the morning. Then reintroduced it and it was insane how much it affected me. I was wired all day! Could hardly sleep. After a few days of drinking caffeine again I started noticing old negative effects and behaviors. My mornings weren’t as great either. So I decided to switch to decaf and also found out about Swiss water process. Definitely a decaf guy now. Thanks for the video

Yeah, I switched to swiss decaf myself, and weak at that for absolutely minimal caffeine. I think I've gotten sensitive to the stuff. Even when I have a real Sheetz coffee now and then it actually makes me feel bad. I just love the coffee flavor, so I'm happy enough to have the swiss decaf at home as it tastes just like real coffee.

I’m actually the very opposite, my body has a very negative reaction to caffeine. It’s what I would imagine strong stimulants do to people, I get shaky and almost paranoid which I know sounds odd. But, I love the taste and ritual of coffee, so I’ve started drinking decaf regularly and love it. I will say I feel almost left out because everyone treats it like the reject in the coffee world. Glad to have someone on the same side :).

You're not wrong about people treating it like a reject haha. I wouldn't let that deter you though, people always reject things they aren't doing themselves (usually without trying it). I understand what you mean in regards to shaky & paranoid.. sometimes this happens if I have a LOT of coffee in a short period of time. Or if I'm on decaf for awhile then have a full strength coffee.

Omg me too! My reaction to caffeine is really bad, I end up sick and in the hospital. But I love the taste so I drink decaf, but only if it’s from a coffee shop or home because too many restaurants use the same container for decaf and caffeine.

Regular coffee makes me feel awful, too, jittery, paranoid, etc. I'm not sure it's the caffeine, though, because I drink tea with no problems. Thankfully, there are good decafs out there these days. I love coffee flavor, so I'm very happy about this!

Even one cup of coffee in the morning gives me such massive anxiety, I don't know why I kept going back to it.. I have strong cup of decaf in the morning now and I'm so sensitive to caffeine that I can even feel that negligible amount but it's just enough and I don't feel any negative side effects, it seems to have been causing me heartburn as well and that's gone away. I didn't know I would feel happier without caffeine, it used to be like sort of sense of dread followed me around 24 hours a day. It's pretty awful. I feel like a whole new person, if you have anxiety give it a try!

You were energised because the caffeine was disrupting your sleep. I've gone off multiple times for various reasons (and returned) but gave it up 4 months ago because a doctor thought caffeine was the reason I wasn't feeling refreshed when I wake up, even though I get plenty of sleep. They said to not drink any caffeine after 10am due to its half life but I ended up swapping it out entirely with matcha. I definitely find it easier to wake up early and whenever I get tempted to have a 'real' coffee, I remember how poor sleep quality/melatonin deficiency can cause serious health problems.

I had the same reaction to giving up caffeine. I had headaches for about a week and a half. Took a bit to find a decent decaf. Forget the supermarkets. Their limited offerings are horrible. I ended up with a decent decaf at a decent price. I got Sicilia Decaf Forte. It takes a bit of experimenting in brewing it but it is worth it. I use a Breville Infuser espresso machine. Grind finer until you achieve around a 35 second extraction of 50 grams liquid coffee out of a 20 Gram dose of ground beans.

it is possible to cut out caffeine over the course of a week. I did that when I drank one coffee and about 6 cups of black tea. That way, I avoided any withdrawal headache. But if you enjoy a hot, milky drink decaff coffee is the way to go, but you make need to make the decaff stronger to make up. For the slight loss of flavour or a second or third shot in a coffee shop depending on the size of the coffee. Some coffee shops serve rubbish decaff coffee, so a tea, naturally caffeine free or decaff may be the solution in that case.

  • @Flynngraham

    @Flynngraham

Agreed, I tend to put more decaf coffee into my drinks than I would normal coffee to get that extra punch that may be lacking from some blends. In saying that though, some blends of decaf are really flavourful and don't need the extra scoop. Like normal coffee it depends on the beans & process.

My advice (from personal experience) is to gradually stop caffeine consumption, not abruptly. For example, decrease by 30% each week, or perhaps a lower percentage, so that it doesn't affect your concentration in the early days and beyond.

I was drinking coffee day and night, I decided to quit. I started by counting how many I had per 24hrs for a few days, then I reduced my intake by one cup per 24 hours for a week, or until my body adjusted to it, then cut 1 more cup until my body was used to it, and kept doing it until one in 24hrs, and switched to decaf, once per day. Now I plan to quit decaf. I don’t drink soda/pop.

5:08 It's worth noting that regular coffee has about 2% of caffeine in it... So, technically, the classic caffeinated coffee is 98% 'decaf', and after the process of your choice it's reduced by some amount to around 0.3% (that's the value in EU regulations for a coffee to be called decaf), thus, giving the value of 99.7% 'caffeine free'. Yep, that's misleading A LOT of people

All groovy - my only input, 'If I go into a cafe and they don't have decaf'. Take it from a very seasoned drug user and drug quitter, that one reg coffee when they don't have decaf, will be the one that puts you straight back onto regular coffee. All drugs are great at first, they only suck later otherwise nobody would do them. That one coffee you have will be great, and you will be tripping balls and wondering why you ever quit. Next thing you'll be wired and tetchy and mood swinging and back where you started. I know this, I am currently giving up coffee for the... 5th time I think? Gets me every fupping time. If they don't have decaf just have a hot chocolate.

Just for the record decaf coffee is not completely decaf. Even with the water process, you'll have 98% of the caffeine removed. A 'decaf' cup of coffee will contain no more than 2mg of caffeine, whereas a normal cup of coffee has between 95 to 100mg in a single cup. You'd need to drink about 50 cups of decaf coffee to get the same caffeine hit given by a single normal cup haha!!

This video is probably going to be what gets me to kick my caffeine habit. HOWEVER. By its nature, there is no "natural" decaffeination process. That's like saying there's natural blue oranges. It will always entail some kind of human intervention. On the other side of the coin, water is a chemical. No reason to be scared of chemicals in the decaf process *just because they're chemicals*.

@@asplmn Its the mix of psychoactive compounds the caffeinated drinks contain. This makes them more addictive. Try decaffeinated tea or coffee for 30 days then try to quit 😂😂😂. The decaffeinated drinks were poison for me. They gave extreme brain fog and many thing which i forgot due to that brain fog lol. Last advise "Sleep is the Antidot to caffeine". I have brought myself down to 80ml tea per day. Even this hinders my sleep if i drink it after 2pm. The days i dont drink i sleep like a baby and consequently more energetic the following day.

Decaf coffee has caffeine in it - you didn’t actually go caffeine free.. That’s hilarious - this is like a heroin addict saying “I’ll switch to dilauded” Bruh - you didn’t do anything effective to reducing your caffeine addiction This is like tapping the brakes while going 100 and because you’re now going 10 miles slower, you say “I’m stopped” No, you’re still going 90mph xD Likewise - saying you’re caffeine free by switching to decaf is just as asinine If you actually wanted to make a drastic change while still ingesting caffeine - stick to chocolate and tea ☕️ Pls don’t chase after the blackest of teas -_-

@@Flynngraham again - this is exactly what I mean. Let’s make the analogy more directly - just make the caffeine content of a cup of coffee your mph and the decaf caffeine content also mph Your reasoning is “I can step out of the car on decaf” - no, sir From my estimates, it’s 100mph in coffee and 20mph in decaf. Would you step out of a car at 20 mph? Trust me, from someone who completely cut out caffeine and added sugars from their diet for 1 year: cutting caffeine and added sugars entirely was dull af 😂 i missed candy and black tea Good luck - I hope you manage to quit it entirely - the energy you think it gives you is inside you, meditate to unlock it 😉
