3 Years, 61K Miles: Daily Driving My MK5 Supra - Ownership Insights & Unfiltered Experiences

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I truly cannot believe it's been 3 years with my Supra. I thought that I would not enjoy a car as much as this one since I initially thought the S2K would be the pinnacle. Car is STILL daily driven and it now has 61k miles. Definitely not a garage queen, it has its battle scars all over the bumper and hood and I do plan on repainting it and going through the entire car to restore it to my standard. Make sure to subscribe to see how else this car changes over time and to join me on my journey to 100k+ miles!

@@Joolz1982you’ll be fine if you drive and maintain responsibly: oil changes every 3-5,000 miles, synthetic oil, transmission oil every 60k miles, warm up after cold start, cool down after heavy loads, redline only after car is at optimal temp. (Usually 5 minutes after coolant has reached optimal temp. If you don’t have an oil temp gauge fyi), don’t lug, etc. Of course you’ll have other minor wear and tear, but the bones of the engine/transmission/turbo should be good. 👍

I’m a sneaker head and have shoes I don’t wear clothes I don’t wear etc. I do my cars the same way but videos like this are helping me to realize that cars are meant to be enjoyed and driven and not babied(unless it’s some exclusive exotic shit). Excellent video ur conversation style is easy to watch. Dope car.

Glad to help bro! I'm a sneakerhead too and I started wearing them all so they can also be enjoyed. Completely agree about the exclusive car, if it's like some crazy Porsche or Ferrari that is extremely rare, then yeah I wouldn't probably pile the miles on it, but if it's a regular production car, you sure as hell know that I will be driving the crap out of it lol hope the channel grows more and allows me to get another car that people wouldn't typically think about driving a lot.

The wind buffeting, to dealing with burning oil right from day one, and constantly having to take it to the dealership because of non stop error codes and limp mode issues to the weak sound system, it was just such a hassle. Honestly, It was an instant regret getting it. It took that entire 6 months of owning it to find a new buyer as well, not many interested in this platform.

I know what you mean about people wanting to race. When I was driving home in my 2024 45th Mikan Blast from the dealership, a guy in a very loud Charger pulled up next to me on the highway, and then blasted off. My car has a dealer-applied temporary plate in the back, so people should know I'm breaking it in. Today, two guys in a Sonata N flew by then slowed down with their windows down so that I'd slowly pass them. Now if I weren't breaking in the engine, I'd probably blast by and then coast back to cruising speed.

People's obsession with mileage on vehicles anymore dates back to older vehicles from the 70s and 80s, 90s where a car that had 100k miles was pretty much considered toast. Meanwhile, today's Vehicles, 50,000 - 100,000 miles, the car is coming alive. Drive it!

Thanks for watching! I am not a financial advisor by any means as I am just some guy on the internet. I would say is find your footing first financially with your career job so you are not financially strained when moving up to a role that fits more what you're wanting to do with your life. You don't want to be stuck with this type of car and its expenses if you're just working a random job. Even if you find a Supra in the price range you want, that has a reasonable interest rate (if financing), the consumables for this car is pricey. I don't remember if I mentioned it in this video, but a full set of tires for this car can be upwards of almost $1400-1500. The rears only which I change out every year is about $800-900. I would say wait, save up, build a foundation for what you're going to do in your life, then pull the trigger.

Anything past 550whp, you will need to look into a bigger stock location turbo. To hit 700, you'll need fueling (PI and E70).

  • @VinceChristmastree

    @VinceChristmastree

    6 ай бұрын

Agree to disagree. Definitely understand where you're coming from though. Personally, going down this path, I would rather have the original paint and not have downtime to respray the bumper. I'm pretty anal when it comes to the paint so I don't even want to run into the issue of the bumper being a different shade than the car. Right now here's what I have to deal with, either I have to find a replacement bumper ($600-700) or take my front bumper off. I really won't be able to drive the car without the car freaking out so it'll be down for a week or so to get resprayed, which is a no-go considering it's my daily driver. Repainting the bumper requires the paint to cure which is dependent on the temps outside, so 30-90 days. At that point, just with the time and potential downtime, the cost of PPF is justified.

Genuinely it’s a car on the road and driven a lot.. protecting the whole thing is a waste.. but having your front bumper and carbon fiber secured that’s smart because over time carbon fades from the uv rays so protecting a carbon hood/lip/front bumper is pretty much all you needs don’t go too all our only protect the parts that are revealed the most from the front.

The only repeated issue I have had is grit/gravel getting in the disk brakes. I've had this happen twice and both times it stayed lodged in there shrieking like the brakes were eating themselves alive. You could hear me coming two blocks away to the point where people on the street were turning their heads. On both occasions took it to the dealer out of concern for damage to the brakes. Damage did not occur on either occasion and on one occasion the grit seemed to actually finally dislodge on the way to the dealer. On the other occasion, the dealer's inspection of the pads and disk seemed to clear it. I live in the city with no gravel roads so the brakes just seem somewhat vulnerable to debris getting in there.

Surprise surprise, modern BMW drivetrains are much more reliable than the late 2000s, 2010s.

Really fell in love with the Supra this past year. Want to get one so bad, but for now I think I'll just stick to modding the Q60 🥲

Q60 is pretty nice and practical! Hopefully the used prices go down and dealers stop smoking crack on the new ones so people can snag them for MSRP. It's been super rewarding driving the car!

With how many young teens I see owning mk5 supras, I feel like they're becoming overrated.

Young teens…like 13 year olds? I mean these are still 50k-ish or high 40k-ish so it’s not like these are Hondas. Just because you see them on IG or TikTok a lot, doesn’t mean they’re super common lol I drive a ton in a big city and I rarely see one.

My opinion is that it is time to grow up for you. You should go to school for one of the many careers in medicine, a useful skill. Radiology tech or something like that. Forget kids and cars for the moment and think about your future as a grown up.

I appreciate you taking the time to say that, but I’m in my 30s and my career in software has been awesome and rewarding. I have grown up and my passion for cars is something that I will share with my wife and kids. Cars is something that has been part of my life since I was 3 and will continue to be. Thanks again for taking the time to comment!

Dude what you talking about? I make $200k+ a year, almost 52, family of 4. Home and rentals all paid off with no debt whatsoever. I have loved cars since I was a teenager. I don’t care if it is a Supra or a Porsche or a boring Lexus sedan. It is a passion. My wife knows what I live and I have the resources to buy toys. Lexus ES350 as my daily and a 911 as my weekend toys. You can have a nice career and passion at the same time. BTW, i pay cash on all my cars.
