3 Ways to Start Strapless on a Surfboard

Спорт

This is our third video in the strapless series to help you improve your strapless kiteboarding, covering how to start off the beach and in the water. Getting off the shore can be especially difficult in some places especially with shore break and managing your timing in between waves and being quick to get on your feet before having the board swept away is key to having fun kitesurfing in the waves. While it may seem simple, there are a few key tips that can hopefully make this a much easier step in progressing your riding and help get you off the beach and in the water quickly.

I like that you have ideas 4all kind off skill level. Especially the efficiency! I have to get my focus to the beach jumpstart.

Great tips Evan. Will be trying the start around second 6, I like the idea of shooting out of the water and landing on the board...I m sure my attempts wont be as graceful! Keep them coming!

Thanks for the hints! Been Waveriding for quite some time now but always controlling the board with my front hand. Will try it your way next time. Cheers

Let me know if you think this way works better, it's just the way I like to do it when approaching the board... one could be as good as the other!

@@evannetsch I have tried it now conciously both ways and realy find controlling with the back hand helps because the board is more manouverable in the flat water on the outside or white water inside. And as you describe having the fron hand on the bar is good to initiate the start. However, where the waves are breaking strongly I find using the front hand on the rail easier as the board gets turned automatically perpendicular to the waves. Cheers from Galicia 😃

Hi mate, can you explain a bit what to do when you have fallen in a wave the dangers of it and maybe some tips how to avoid it. Thanks.

Your bar looks rather large - Could you tell which size bar you are using and why?

44-52 cm, pretty standard size I think for most of the time riding in waves. Don't like to go too small especially on 10m kite (which most of this was filmed on) to keep it quick while doing anything on a surfboard. Unhooking and freestyle is a different story....

Hi Evan are you sending the kite to 12 when you run and jump?

  • @evannetsch

Depends on how high I am trying to go and how powered I am. Sometimes I do, but usually I hardly more it at all and just sheet in for a bit of lift. For more lift I will bring it all the way to 12 but often just getting off the beach quickly and not worried about actually getting and real height I tend to not move it much at all.
