I have been looking for a comfort strap or complete replacement made especially for the quest but the thing is I don't want to risk damaging or scratching the paint off of it. On top of that I have a huge head and it barely fits as is so I can't get that vr cover back head strap. I am in quite the predicament.

Thanks for the instruction. I have a flat back to my head so there is no way for it to wrap around the back of my head. However, I readjusted per your instructions and it fits much better now. I’m looking into a better strap. The Halo strap doesn’t look too comfortable so I may look into one that wraps more to the sides of my head - wrap around in it’s entirety.

I was between the VRCover thingy and the Studioform Kit. Finally I got the Studioform kit with a discount. I hope it is good enough. My head is really small, and it hurts a lot when I play. I'm pretty sure the front heaviness has a lot to do with it, so I preferred the Studioform kit

I found reinforcing the back with some Cable Ties (Fabric ones not Zip Ties) To help support the front heavyness, Not Perfect but it does remove well, the Uncomfortable-edge I'm experimenting with a few other designs to see if it works or not but eh honestly I'm happy with what I've done lol.

So, I made what some people are calling the "frankenquest." I bought the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap and installed it. It is more comfortable, but I do have a very small head. So, the front is still sliding down after 20 minutes of gaming or general use. I think I'll have to buy the top strap and counter weight strap next. I do not remember my Rift headset being this uncomfortable. I was able to do my beat saber and BoxxVR gaming for hours. Now, my teeth hurt and head hurts after just a few minutes of gaming. It's such a same because there are so many games I'd like to play on my Quest. Thank you for this video. I will try the top strap and counter-balance straps. Thank you again for great and informative content.

I got my Quest a couple days ago. Almost immediately I noticed how it dug into my cheek bones when I tightened it. All I did was bend the foam out at my cheeks so that the surface lays flatter against my face, and that helped. They should have made a plastic head harness instead of leaving it to those soft straps.

I like to wear my headset tight as HELL so it doesn't wiggle around as I'm playing, it isn't the most comfortable, but it makes me confident. Yep, that's why I have these weird marks on my face that don't want to go away unless I don't play for like half a week. Also, my head is too damn big for the Quest to cradle the lower back of my head, so it's actually more comfortable for it to stay in the middle of the back of my head not really cradling anything, otherwise the strap wouldn't take any weight from the HMD off my face.

I usually consider my head to be a bit big as well. If you can swing it, buy the Vive DAS and 3D print the Frankenquest kit or buy it off Etsy. That thing isn't going anywhere and there is zero front heaviness. At all. It's a complete game changer that is lightyears more comfortable than adding a bunch of top straps, pads and a bunch of weights to the back of the thing like you're trying to balance scales. It's stiff and actually cups the bottom of the back of your head. You twist the back crank and it tighten the entire thing to the point it isn't going anywhere even in a motorcycle crash. It's like wearing a bicycle helmet instead of a brick sewn onto a belt.

I have a a silicone cover for the front and it makes it a lot more comfortable. It uses the stock facial interface but it makes it not dig into your face so bad. Also an added bonus, sweat no longer absorbs into the face pad. I recently bought a vr cover facial interface and it's less comfortable than the stock interface with the silicone cover. It also leaks light much more. The nose cover for the vr cover isnt that good (I have a small nose) I recently ordered the rear pad from vr cover. I've been looking for a Vive Deluxe Audio Strap but they're discontinued and I'm not going to pay $200 for a strap. I've seriously thought about spending that much but at that point I might as well just get a Valve Index, which I will, eventually Thanks for the upload!!

@@CasandChary how does the it compare to the top strap and counter weights? I'm very curious. I really wish the halo strap for the quest was better. I would buy it instantly if it was. Though I do hear a revised version is coming soon.

If the Quest had the build style of the PSVR it would be unstopable. I just got a Quest after 4 years of PSVR and I can't believe how uncomfortable it is - the 'visor' style of the PSVR is a million times better than the 'clamp' style of the Quest. I've literally logged about 500 hours on the PSVR without one second of feeling like it was heavy or uncomfortable. After 30 mins in the Quest I'm frustrated that it isn't more comfortable. (Hence searching for this video).

there is a good reason why people pay 1000 dollars instead of 500 for a htc vive instead of an oculus for an oculus you dont need a pc but your gonna need to endure the pain it gives you but with a HTC its comfortable as hell i could play 15 hours straight on it and i still wouldnt feel a thing but of cource the headset alone costs over a thousand dollars and you need a pc so in the end you'l be paying like 3000 dollars for a pc and headset so umm yeah but of cource comfort is very important for a headset i hope oculus does something about this i get the reason its so heavy cuz the headset itself is an entire computer but like i mean

the only game worth playing in VR right on on the quest are the DrBeef Mods like half-life and quake... and Vankrupt's Pavlov... not only are they showing up the big devs, but they are doing it for free... shameful lmao, espire 1 is alright though kinda seems broken that it would be a single-player only experience

Front heaviness is no problem for me. What IS a problem is sweat and condensation. I wear glasses, and I've had tons of occasions where I'll take it off and have a layer of condensation on my lenses, like the outside of a cold water bottle. Another problem is sweat collecting on the foam. I have...no idea how to clean it, and I'm pretty sure there's enough biomass in it to kick start an agrarian society.

This video should begin and end with the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap or DAS for short. There are plenty of instructions available online showing exactly how to install the "Frankenquest" mod, as well as premade kits that make the entire setup intuitive and easy. Most importantly, it puts all the options in this video to shame. On a comfort scale of 1 to 10, a stock quest is a 2 or 3. With the mods in this video it is at best a 5 or 6. I know because I've bought and tried them. The DAS is a 10. The Quest literally can not be more comfortable short of completely removing the guts, doing some resoldering and cable extensions and making a new mold yourself, and even then the difference would be marginal. There is zero front heaviness with the Vive DAS Frankenquest mod. Instead of feeling like something you have to adjust every 15 minutes to half hour or even after an hour of playtime, with the DAS you will *never* feel the urge to adjust the thing due to weight distribution. It does way better than trying to adjust the flexible stock strap around the back of your head. The DAS "strap" is hard plastic that actually does securely cradle the bottom of the back of your head with a crank at the back that lets you securely tighten (or loosen to remove) off the back of your head. Unlike all the other options that feel like you're actively trying to balance items on the top of your head, it just feels like wearing a bicycle helmet. There is no downward pressure on the front of your face and there is no feeling like you need to "come up for air." Aside from the eyestrain you could legit wear the thing all day and not even notice aside from trying to eat or sleep. The price is steep but the value is 100x what the $40 of well-intentioned-but-ultimately-still snakeoil above is worth. There is no substitute here. There is only the Frankenquest.
