3 Ways To Add Reolink Cameras (HOME ASSISTANT)

Ғылым және технология

In todays video we are having a look at 3 different methods for getting our Reolink Cameras into Home Assistant. The first two methods can also be used with other brands providing they support the same protocols.

Thanks mate. Really awesome and thorough breakdown of the how-to. Although the WebRTSP didn't work for me the ONVIF did, so I really appreciate you having shared more than just the one method. The one question I have is: I also installed the Reolink Duo PoE and both of the preview feeds I'm getting are for one of the lenses (not one for each). When I click on the specific camera view it will show the correct lens. For reference my YAML is: type: grid square: false columns: 1 cards: - type: picture-entity entity: camera.garage_camera_profile060_mainstream - type: picture-entity entity: camera.garage_camera_profile070_mainstream

I integrated one of my Reolink POE cameras using WebRTC and the Reolink integration. The WebRTC stream only has around a 2-second lag, which is good. But the Reolink-integration stream has around a 12- to 15-second lag. Is this normal behavior? I prefer the Reolink integration because I can use the stream in a Picture Glance card where I can also insert entities to control. Is there any way to reduce stream lag on the Reolink integration?

I suggest you first watch a few more videos from other creators because we are ALL having problems with Reolink cameras. So far the dual lens camera seems to be ok but please, please do more research! This is especially true if you plan on using Blue iris or utilizing other alternative HA integrations. Honestly, I’m kinda disappointed Mark didn’t discuss or disclose a few of these issues. They are very common and very public and can be found on many forms. Some people have boxes of BRICKED devices. Other content creators who’ve reviewed the Reolink dual lens camera have at least mentioned the issue with the other versions and a few creators have just recently released videos explaining why you SHOULDN’T buy from Reolink. Mentioning these know problems isn’t only the responsible thing to do, but it’s an absolute requirement for a comprehensive and fair review of a product. Otherwise a creator becomes nothing more than a brand ambassador making endorsement videos.

Hey Chris. Thank you for the feedback. Can I ask which cameras you are having issues with? Other than Rob (the Hook Ups) video I personally haven’t seen any of the videos regarding Reolink issues. I cant speak for all Reolink cameras but I personally haven’t had any issues with the cameras I feature on my channel (other than the audio - I mention in the Duo preview). I am not sponsored or paid by Reolink and if I did have any issues with any tech I am featuring, I would point it out and disclose it. Im sorry you feel like that. This content wasn’t aimed to be like that, it was simply supposed to be additional content to support the recent preview I created for the Duo. As this is not a comprehensive review I haven’t delved into common problems or FAQs. If this was a full review I would have looked up any FAQs or issues users came across to see if its something I experienced or something I could add and resolve in my video. Which is something i have not done as this particular video is just aimed to show 3 setup options focusing on camera connectivity which I also mention at the beginning can also be used with other camera brands. Cheers. (Sorry if you got this twice Chris. There's an issue with YT comments atm. I tried posting this this morning)

Get videos. I am running HA 2023.5.3 OS 10.1. I have the Reolink E1 Zoom. As of now, the HACS integration is part of HA, so installation seems simpler. I can get the video using Picture Glance Card. I only see the sub version of the camera...no main. Also no real PTZ other than pressing the PTZ Up/Down/Left/Right control, but that just sends it to the full limit. So not very useful. Questions... Any way to get real PTZ on HA? I can always go to the Reolink App and it has full functionality, but seems to be a big extra step to just view camera. Why have it in HA? Why only sub version of camera and not main? Thanks for any help here.

Hi! Which method gives me full local control? I don’t really want the camera to be able to reach from the net

RTSP and Onvif are the full local control ones. I can’t remember if the Reolink integration needs outside connectivity or not (the documentation should say) :)

@@MarkWattTech but as i seen in the vid, you had to give your username and psw. I assume that first you had to register your camera at reolink website to get these, right?

@@gergohorvath2538 no. When you setup the cameras you can optionally set a username and password (locally) on each device. This account basically stops anyone on your network directly viewing the feeds or modifying the configuration of the camera. Its just for security. This isn’t your Reolink account info. Hope that helps.

There is now a Reolink integration that you can just add directly without HACS.

WebRTC and RTSP are two different protocols, why are you saying they are the same?

I have the 811A, had to download the PC client and enable RTSP in the settings. Then everything worked. Also port forwarded in my router.
