  • @zenivinez
    @zenivinez10 күн бұрын

    while I understand why you might think this there is a good reason for all of these. There are simply better options for all 3. Wash out isn't played because it isn't instant speed, Rout isn't play because Fated return is just better(though people rarely even play that because mono white is rare and better options exist in blue red and black), Expel the interlopers isn't played because the few decks that run these like arcades run board wipes that force players to sacrifice creatures above a certain power or cost less mana and effective do the same thing it's the fourth best option and people don't generally run more than 3.

    I think the problem with more niche board wipes like these is that most commander decks only want 2-5 board wipes total, and it's really hard to beat out the really powerful ones like Farewell, Cyclonic Rift, Final Showdown, Tragic Arrogance, Blasphemous Act, Toxic Deluge, and Vanquish the Horde. Past that, you have to then justify them over the less popular or more restrictive but still powerful ones like Ruinous Ultimatum, In Garruk's Wake, Damnation, Supreme Verdict, Merciless Eviction, Sunfall, Evacuation, Damn, and good old WOG. This might be one of the most competitive slots in a commander deck.

  • @MTGRecon

    @MTGRecon

    15 күн бұрын

    I really dislike most board wipes that just fully reset the board and give you no advantage. Commander, to me, is not a super competitive format, so I’d literally rather lose the game than just wipe the board and pass. That’s why I like board wipes that can be asymmetrical and are played to help you win, not reset the game or bring it to a halt. But that’s just how I feel, and I understand some people don’t.

    @@Leviathan894 nah, instant speed board wipe is better because you can let your opponents over commit and think they've got an opening to win the game then you wipe the board. Instant speed interaction is always better than sorcery speed. Ok Ok so lets do this again.... Wash Out is Crap because 1) It Only Hits Colored Cards, making it useless vs Artefacts, Eldrazi and basicly 80% of the Things which make the Core of a Commander Deck. 2) Wash Out is utterly useless if someone plays the Same Color as yourself, because outside of very specific Decks/Combos(which use this card) you lose mostly more as your Opponent. Expel the Interlopers basicly is the Same, just instead of color it "checks" Power of Creatures, making it even more restricted. Therefore requiering even more of a spcific deck.

    First, while this video is about board wipes, I do think of Wash Out more as a multi-targeted removal spell. I never expect it to fully “wipe” the board. It’s best in either lower color decks or higher color (with low multicolor count) decks that can use it to remove 3+ good permanents all at once, with you most likely casting the spell to get rid of 1 or 2 in particular. It’s especially good against token decks, and while it can bounce your board if you choose one of your colors, that’s really a “press button in case of emergency” option that still isn’t the worst in the world since blue often has lots of ETBs or is more spell based. It really depends on how your deck is built, and what your meta looks like. (Also I don’t find commander to be that much fun when everyone’s decks are built on a colorless core that could be in any deck, as I like restrictions in deck building that make each of my decks feel different. I’ll run a couple of the big ones like sol ring/arcane signet, but that’s about it. Although that’s just me. As for Expel, I really like Expel the Interlopers because it always has the mode of “destroy all creatures” in essence, because you can choose power 0 or greater. I personally love it in token decks where most of the time I can choose 2 or 3 and get all of the big threats leaving my tokens alone, but if I need to get rid of a bunch of my opponents’ creatures i can choose 0 in that moment too. Even in non token decks you may just be in a situation where a number works out really well for you, and leaves you with at least something while dealing with the problematic creatures.

    @@MTGRecon Yeah thats Fine. And in such Situations or Decks the Cards can work good, even Great. But this is Basicly in Specific Decks. I mean you basicly Name such Decks yourself in your Response. So it makes sense that these Cards only Used 1% or so, of all Decks. Thats basicly the Whole Argument here ^^

    If you don't have something better to do with 7 mana in white than wrath at instant speed, that's on you. Rout is played as much as it should be.

    The intention is that you can cast it that way if you have the mana, but it can also just be a normal board wipe for 5.

    Exactly! It's a mid-on-a-good-day card with the option to cast it as an even worse card! Versatility at its finest.

    I find them all to be very modal, and focus more on winning the game rather than just saving yourself, which is what I value in a board wipe.

    @@MTGRecon washout problematic if your opponents are running similar colors to you. Rout is over costed and instant speed is hard to make useful unless you have away to make creatures also indestructible so it non symmetrical and expel the interlopers is over costed and only tokens decks and smaller creatures decks.
