British Asian guy here (Essex/London-raised Filipino bloke living in NYC) wanted to share my perspective and get other peoples take on this 😄 In terms of aesthetic and appearance I guess I fall under the eboy/pretty boy category via. Ear piercings, medium lengthed wavy/curly permed hair, skincare, and I go for a starboy/preppy/quiet luxury wardrobe, so in terms of attire and aesthetic I’d be lumped in with every prettyboy Asian/asian American TikTok poster child. That being said, I fervently cater to my fitness and physique (via. 1 hour cardio, starting doing heavier Weight lifting, a regimented and clean alcohol and sugar free diet) and I’m an avid boxer/Muay Thai practitioner, I have a glaring hawk tattoo on my chest, my accents literally no more Asian than Idris Elbas or Danny Dyer since I’m an essex boy (southeast of England), I still watch Premier League football on Sundays, and I’m currently pursuing a British Military/Defence sector career. Which I suppose are sensibilities/interests which bleed into the “Apollo” or “Gigachad” archetypes. The point is I feel like these 3 categories are just a baseline for Asian guys and shouldn’t be a forced trichotomy. And the reality is that most Asian dudes will realistically have enough nuance/unique personality and aspirations to crossover either 3

Fellow British-Filipino here from London .. I'm 5'9 with blue eyes, often clean shaven but have a hairline worst than Le Bron, but I even found the K-Pop ting to be heavily desired in Thailand .. Even in Philippines, people there didn't really think much of my look. Maybe it's because I'm in my mid-30s now so I appear to be much older, so maybe I just need some drastic makeover to make me more appealing to women, or get on Love Island or something lol

@@jmedz893 Glad to meet a fellow countryman on this side of KZread, mate 👊 😆 It’s all about finding the perfect overlap between aesthetics while realistically tailoring it to your personality and style I guess! As a Filipino the 30’s has the potential to be your style prime, look up SEA Models and Actors like Desmond Chiam, Chuando Tan or even Henry Golding if you can, while growing out and throwing in some k-pop hairstyles if you can. If not a clean buzz cut with a chiseled physique (not overly muscular) works just as well with the right niche P.s. whereabouts in Thailand were you? I was just in Phuket with my gf and family a few weeks ago for Christmas/new years

@@DemocracyManifestJr I was in Pattaya late November :) Was in Bangkok a few times as well as I have a friend there. I also spent Xmas/New Years with fam there as well in 2017. I honestly have given up trying to date here in UK now dude. Whilst I didn't have drastic overnight success in Thailand - I at least noticed a stark difference in attention I was getting there versus here in London. My main issue is that I really don't think that girls here would commit to a guy that looks like me, we're all trumped by other ethnicities dude; Black/Caribbean, Arab, South Asian, White etc, its difficult to stand out here. Funnily enough, I actually put in my Match bio that I'm the "ghetto version of Henry Golding" lol. But yeh in Pattaya the Koreans & tall White dudes were my ops lol

@@jmedz893still mate, don’t let it rule out all prospects of dating in the UK! Sometimes all it takes is a slight rebranding (style and aesthetic) and going out of your comfort zone ! And in all fairness, if you’re in a close minded community surrounded by woman and people who judge you right off the bat for being Asian alone, then they’re not worth the day let alone are they good people. You owe em fuck all effort or notice, and people with bullshit outdated and superficial prejudices aren’t people you want to associate with from the get go, much less people who get far in life. Keep your chin up mate, and own that ghetto roadman Henry Golding vibe! You got this, big man 🇬🇧 🇵🇭 💪 P.s. Bangkok is absolutely unmatched, and I’ve heard Pattaya is gorgeous during winter 🔥

The whole "high/low season" thing has changed weirdly since the pandemic so it wasn't too hectic when I went. They had some 3-day fireworks display happening where Philippines competed in it & were quite good. As for Bangkok I was only there mainly during the day cos I was proper tired walking around the malls lol

I guess I transitioned through all of these looks throughout my life. I didn't fill out my slender frame until I was in my mid 20's. No tattoos, no unnecessary facial hair, just being the best version of myself with my tech job and being active at the gym and various sports. It is a surprise when I take my shirt off. Being in the music program in school allowed me to experience things that I would otherwise not have experienced. Traveling, learning, being active is what makes you interesting. Looks fade and styles change. At the end of the day, you are left with yourself. People need to stop trying to fit into a mold/archetype and just be themselves.

I really feel that this is an interesting topic that explores the topics of masculinity. It kind of reminded me that masculinity has like the Hard and Soft spectrum , like the Kpop style pretty boys and the warrior type macho mens (This also reminded me of the Wen- Wu Masculinity thing which was some Chinese thing about masculinity). This video showed me how different groups of people express their ‘manliness’ and how guys can sometimes have to settle for a certain ‘style’ within the spectrum. Just wondering, although the perception of Asians(East) is that of more of a ‘‘scholarly’ and maybe ‘pretty boy’ look. What about Asians like maybe Mongolians which are somewhat of an East Asian (or maybe they are Central Asians). Because I feel like Mongolian can be perceived to be like gigachads (Like Genghis Khan) and also a little edgy like the band The Hu. Really found this video rather insightful and hope to see more videos like this!😄

This conversation always gets me thinking how I got the most positive female attention when I was skinnier. I was such a great example of not needing to get all buff to attract female attention. I'm filling out a medium shirt now, which is what I always wanted, but my phone is BONE dry compared to when I was like 135lbs. I was dating this FINE ass 50 year old woman who owned her own firm in Atlanta. That woman was better-kept than 70% of women 25 years younger than her...HIGH QUALITY. Structurally, I fit in with the middle-tier because I'm medium tall (5'10) and my face is more in line with what they'd call "classic" among those fashion classification archetypes. Sort of like a dark skinned Sawyer from Lost, or Christopher Reeves. A friend of mine said I sometimes remind him of Jeff Goldblum in the original Jurassic Park. I genuinely just don't feel like I have a grasp of where I sit with most women anymore, but I think that also has a lot to do with my "fishbowl". I live in the South, where if you're not either a dad-bod "every-man" or the hyper-masculine gym-rat archetype, you aren't really on the menu. All the girls I'm attracted to (I like em petite!) all go after dudes way taller than me and are the kind of dudes I wouldn't enjoy trying to emulate. So I've resolved to move somewhere where my body type is in favor. Gotta do what you gotta do!
