As a straight haired natural since about 2013, I get an amino acid hair treatment (Design Essentials STS) once a year during the summer. Amino acid hair treatments help to strengthen the hair and help your hair to not revert when in hot and humid weather. I would also say unless you have a coarse hair texture, steer clear of titanium flat irons. I have low porosity fine textured hair and my curl pattern does not like titanium flat irons. I find my hair does better with ceramic flat irons. I know has a straight haired natural my curl pattern will loosen over time. But titanium completely straightens my curl pattern. Also, Olaplex will aid in strengthening the bonds of your hair as a straight haired natural. Olaplex (no. 6)has an amazing leave in conditioner.

I've never heard of an amino acid treatment, thanks for all of that good information on the flat irons and products! I'm going to chat with my stylist about it all.

Will the amino acid help with twist outs and stuff on humid weather to prevent your hair getting puffy?
@southerndivamag
4 жыл бұрын
I have had amino acid treatments in the past when I was a loose natural and agree. I could get them and my hair would be straight as long as I kept it straight. I got caught in a drizzle once and it still held up. When I wanted to go back to my curls I would wash my hair and do my normal natural hair styling ang the kinks were back. I had no breakage or weak hair afterwards.

@@dontliveinfear.7640 I can't say for sure. I only got it with straightened hair. It held up against it with straight hair, I wouldn't be surprised it it did the same with kinks and curls.

My daughter has waist length natural hair, I've been keeping it straight with a light press since school started. I still moisture her hair daily. I use Lotta Body Moisturize Me Curl and Style Milk, just a dime size focusing on her ends and I brush it in an seal with a drop of my favorite shea oil and her hair stays healthy and does not revert. Sometimes with kids the weight product adds can help the style last. Most people should still moisturize their hair while straight, IMO.
I just straightened my hair. And I think I’ll keep it straight for a while. I was just so over the single strand knots and detangling.

Yes, it’s great to silk press in moderation especially when reserved for trims exclusively
No matter how many tips I follow my hair does not stay straight for more than a week. I always have to add more heat. I think it depends on your hair and the climate of the area you live in. Nothing works to keep my hair straight. The humidity here is awful. In winter it stays more.

I have that same problem. I’ve used the Color Wow I with black top and my hair reverted within 2 days.
Listennnn!!! Here in the south, a silk press might last a week lol But when I visited LA, my skin started getting dry on the plane.

Girll I thought about this the other day and I reminded myself how you said it’s dry where you are lol. So my hair will nevaaaaa in Jersey. Nevaaaa. Plus I workout 👀 Nevaaaa lol
So beautiful! Very helpful I just straightened my hair I’ll try your tips out for week 👌🏾
Last time I got my hair straightened was December 2010 or 2011 for my birthday. December. The winter time! Here in southeast Georgia’s humidity, my hair started proofing that very same night. 🤦🏾♀️ Conversely when I visited AZ, I don’t even remember sweating. In other news, I liked what your hair was giving me right out of the Bantu knots. Looked low key like soft beach waves.

Sandria Is Yes we have a very dry heat. I liked it on one side bit it would have looked better had o twisted the bantuknot on the other side the opposite way. I'm going to give it another try so I can wear some waves.
Omg yesssss I’ve been waiting for this video forever, got mine to last almost 3 weeks but yesterday I just straightened it again, trying to make it last longer so this vid came right in time 😊
If I could look like anyone in this world, it would be Ambrosia 😍 You’re beautiful inside and out

I can’t wait to see how you wrap your hair. My stylist is always harping on me to wrap my hair...but I just don’t know how 😫
Great tips and girl yes climate is key. Living in AL is like living in the rainforest it rains so much here😭 and there's always moisture in the air even during the winter months.
When you said if you lived in New Orleans I immediately gave a side eye cuz I'm from NOLA and got my hair pressed yesterday a d it didnt last 24hrs and I came here for help but now I know ALL HOPE IS LOST 😂😂😂😂😂. Somes I dislike living here lol
Thank you!! I'm going straight for a while, this was helpful :)
Yasssss golden!!! Proud of you!!! All these tips you gave were totally on point!!!!! Coming from a professional hairstylist!! These are all tips I give my clients!!!! It can be be very simple to keep up straight natural hair!!!!! Allowing your own natural oils to come through even if you need a little help with other oils from time to time. I wasn't prepared to face this beauty ... close up ... in the camera. So much beauty.
Same here. I believe good products are the essential basic. I wear a silk press short pixie and use self-adhesive rollers, a bit of serum for shine, and avoid water without a covering, and my hairdo looks excellent for a month.😆🙏
I know this is about the silk press but can we get a tutorial on the makeup

Great tip. I was just wondering how to clean my hair.
Actually like the hair after the bantu knots. Looks like and editorial hair stile and those waves actually help the hair to prevent it self from puffing
Your intro is so amazing-
I love her bobbed haircut, her makeup, and her earrings and her nose piercing 😍💙
Just what I was waiting for ❗️🥰
I live in TX, humid and rains every other day. It's unfortunately a no for me dawg. 😭
Lovely! I love the way it frames your face. Do you plan to keep it straight for a while?
I’m going to straighten my hair soon. You make a good point brosia to wrap every night without getting lazy. That’s my problem after the third day I’m already sleeping with buns or a ponytail and so the next day I have a bump. I have to stop being lazy and wrap it every night even if I wear my hair up all day. Can’t wait to have a break from my natural hair especially because I’m about to give birth! Straight hair will be easier for me to maintain after baby 💕
Thank you for sharing!! Very helpful!
I liked the waves from the bantu knots. I live in a very dry climate too and my straight hair last a long time. Love your eye shadow.

Brittney J I’m in CA and a silk press wouldn’t last as far as the salon door. A waste of time so I don’t even try anymore 😄
Honey! I live one state over in New Mexico we on that same struggle bus. The day I got my hair silk pressed it had the NERVE to rain! I'm just glad I'm from the midwest and I still keep umbrellas in my car. And I took one in to the shop because I was like if this weather decide to throw craps I'm gone be M-A-D. Mine is lasting so far for the same reasons as yours. I had to touch it up because I worked out and sweated but all the stuff you do I do too out here in this dry desert land.

Hello neighbor! Look, I just bought my first umbrella as an adult just yesterday! Lol I bought it to have shade while we went fishing 😁😂 I’m glad your press is lasting too!
Try using pin curls to get the bump back. It gives a great curl, that you can wrap and turn into fire volume.

I use to curl my hair like that back when I was relaxed but I didn't have any bobby pins to do it, thats on my shopping list. Thanks!
This video helped a lot. Thanks!
Those nosebleeds are real lol! When I was a kid we moved form L.A to Pomona and I got nose bleeds when I started school because the air was so much dryer than what I was used to in Los Angeles especially living somewhat close to the beach.
You said it right. I live in Louisiana and that press will revert when you step out of the salon. LA's heat is above 90 degrees and humidity is above 80%. There's no way someone is going to get a silk press in August/September and have it last that long out here.
Great tips❤️
omg i used to watch you about 10 yrs ago. i had yahoo email. youtube forced everyone to use gmail so i lost your channel. glad i found it!
I had so much hope until she stated she lived in AZ 😫. Living in Louisiana or the south in general with all this humidity your silkpress might last a week, & let's not even mention working out😔
Gorgeous!! What lippie is this? So beautiful.
Rite on time for fall it’s no way I won’t sweat out a silk press rite now in Texas. I would love to see a video on wrapping your hair.
When I visited AZ in 2015, I knew I couldn't live there... beautiful place (I was in Phoenix), but baby, that air is *cough* *cough* DRY😩 I didn't suffer from nose bleeds, but my throat was sore after day 5!
Beautiful Queen! 😍😍😍
I have been natural all my life, but I havent blown out my hair or flat ironed it in four years. I really want to try a silk press and actually go to a salon, but I'm so nervous of this dry scalp of mine! I live in a humid city so I know it wouldn't last long. Maybe I will try around Thanksgiving. You look bomb!
I subscribed to your channel cause I love your videos and Im also from Arizona.
The way I workout I could never keep my hair straight pass the time I left the salon..lol

Yes. This would have me in a panic. All consuming. Too expensive to be so temporary. No shower, no sweat, no rain...etc.
I really liked your hair, this time last year, where you did a trim. I wish we could have seen it long and flat ironed before the cut. It still looks good short though.
Great tips

My issues are humidity and hot showers! I need my showers to burn my skin to feel clean! Lol my hair puffs up instantly in the humidity of Maryland. I swear it’s like we live in a swamp area sometimes it’s so much moisture in the air.
LOL ! girl, i live in arizona too. no humidity is great for silk press lol
Great advice
Love your earrings!
Yeah, I leave in Texas. The humidity here is enough to where it makes you want to cry. 🤦🏽♀️ You gave some great tips, though. I appreciate cha, sis! 🤗

What oils do you use to keep it refreshed and too oily ?
how do you deal with smell? like from your scalp or the smell of the outside?
Good GAWD the face tho! Sis you IS gorgeous! 😫😍
i live in Baton Rouge (an hour from New Orleans) and whew the humidity is crazyyy here. lol btw, your makeup is beautiful! 😍
I'm moving to Vegas. This video gives me hope. Yes! Haa
I try to keep my hair straight but I’ll not wrap my hair and sweat it out or workout and sweat it out. To bump your ends you should try finger curls.
Ambrosia, you are wearing that nose ring. And let me tell you, your hair is so becoming on you with either Style: natural twist or the silk press . . . Both are complementary with your face. BTW, I just recently got my nose pierced in June, and I love the accessory that you have in your nose. Celeste, in the ATL😎
I love your hair and skin Goddess! ❤️🥰

Oh wow I live in Arizona too. In Mesa I’m trying to move to phoenix or Gilbert. Mesa is so boring.
i had one the past Saturday and it not cute any more. i sweat a lot and its not retain heat
When the video started and you said you have 3 tips, the first thing i thought was, “what about when you’re in the shower?!” And of course, that was the best tip. lol. My hair would’ve been reverted cause my showers are always steammmyyyyyyyy!! Hair still look GOODT!

How do you keep your scalp from smelling sour after the first week ?!
How often do you oil your hair and scalp?
You are so pretty.
I love to pin curl mine. It looks cute even as it reverts...
I’m feeling this lady... she’s cool
It looks pretty but I like clean hair. I do heat once and month, wash n go for 3 weeks and get pressed on the 4th or for special occasions.
What about keeping your hair straight when you workout everyday?

I live in Chicago where it’s so humid during the summer, so I don’t even attempt a silk press in the summer. I think I have twice as many sweat glands on my scalp as the average person. If I had as many hair producing follicles in my scalp as I do sweat glands, I’d have super dense hair. Sigh.

Not @ me in Florida -_- the weather is bipolar here so you never know what you'll get. It got really cold the other night and it's April!
