    Love love love the bonus! So important to get these expectations upfront. This happens with me at my sticks & bricks as my “grown” children come to visit. Especially with COVID19 & remote work. Once all is communicated it eliminates hurt feelings or frustration & makes the visit so much more enjoyable

    Scott, 3 words for this video...AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME! The sewer solution is simply amazing. I’m sure most people haven’t thought of connecting to the already installed sewer clean-out. You just solved an issue my wife and I were discussing just today. Regarding connecting to city water: I watched your previous video talking about connecting to city water and thought there was a design issue with the Travato. Now I understand it’s not an issue but it’s more about staying in a resource conservation mindset. Thanks for another great video.

    "non-Volta, generator " T owner here. I think the adapter works the same way in my rig as it does in yours. I plug in and just set the One Place to the lower input setting. That keeps us from blowing the fuse in their garage. Lets us run the AC or Truma heat on heat strips just fine. Surprised that you Volta folks ever need to plug in.

    Thanks Roger. If staying for a few nights I probably wouldn’t bother, but I’m not driving to charge the system… and the A/C is running 24/7 as the temps are in the low 80s in day and low 70s at night.. That type of power consumption calls for shore power

  • @danleonard3600

    Great video. Another option for those with larger rigs that are less mobile. A wheeled sewage tote. You can dump your tanks into it , wheel it over to the clean out and dump without having to move your rig. You can also use a regular 20 amp outlet with an adapter to plug in if installing a 30 amp service is not an option. You couldn’t run ac but it would probably keep you charged enough to run ac off the Volta when needed.

    Hi I think you might answer my question so I’m still fairly new to RV my don’t have lithium just solar and generator so sound if you are plug to shore power to 30 amp outlet at home you can’t run your AC? Can you run microwave? Thanks

  • @danleonard3600

    @danleonard3600

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@liaodesign if you had a 30 amp outlet you could run the ac or anything else in the unit. You might trip a breaker if you ran the ac and other items like microwave but probably not. My comment was based on being plugged into a 20 amp regular household outlet with an adapter. An ac takes more than 20 amps and would trip the breaker in that scenario but not with a 30 amp service. I have a 30 amp outlet at home and plug my camper into it to charge when not traveling. It also makes a handy extra guest room.

  • @liaodesign

    So I’m using adapter connecting to my 20amp outlet I shouldn’t try to run AC or Microwave? I never try it and probably won’t since I’m home but just want to know thanks.

  • @danleonard3600

    @danleonard3600

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@liaodesign you could run the microwave on a 20 amp circuit. That’s what you do in your house. Just not with very many other high draw items on at the same time. Just remember in the camper everything is running off one outlet so don’t try to run a bunch of items at the same time. You’ll know if it’s too much when a breaker trips. If it doesn’t trip you’re good.

    Great tips! I researched using one of those portable macerator pumps to empty the holding tanks, which can use a garden hose to move the contents to the sewer clean out up to 100 ft. Rick from Madison Wisconsin here. Excellent information Scott. I have already added a 30amp RV receptacle in my garage to accommodate my new Gemini when it gets here in May. I will be replacing the toilet in the RV with the Laveo toilet (thanks Terry Minix), so waste issue solved. I also have purchased a fresh water hose, but still need to get the green filter system selected. I have learned so much from watching your video's, and appreciate the effort and information you share with us. Looks like I am going to travel to Southern California to spend a month with family, so I will moochdock with them, but I am sure they don't have a 30amp hook up, so I will have to use the dogbone connector for the rig. Thanks again.

    Mooch docking is a nice change from Boondocking and RV parks. I'm surprised you didn't talk about a maserator. It's a pump you can attach a hose to the pump, it grinds down the waste and pumps it through a smaller hose. Then you can run that hose inside to toilet on the main floor. Then it pumps your waste water into the house sewer system. Great video.

    Getting my van so I can visit my daughter on the OBX of NC more often. Planning on staying in her yard and she is totally cool with that. I know she won’t have any expectations of moving into the house as we have talked about it. We even talked about the possibilities of me getting something put in for electrical. Can I just say I would not mind 79 degrees especially now. But so on point with having your own space to feel comfortable in especially with a longer stay. For me I think the composting toilet will give me a good option. Another advantage of staying by family may be to have access to better WiFi. But of course be prepared to use your own. Good to see Luke make an appearance!

    I paid to have water and 30 amp hookups at my Mother's home in New England because I travel up there for a few weeks at a time as well. Like you, I could not install a sewer dump station because of the location of the clean out. I ended up just buying a portable tank on wheels to keep at her house and empty as needed, no cost other than the initial cost of the tank. Maybe that would work for you too? Keep up the good videos!

    OK- you axed for it! Great video (was that a sigh of relief?) and you kept it moving at a very reasonable pace- Thank You! But, was hoping for a cost breakdown for the 30 Amp breaker install- it couldn't have been inexpensive, although- a great bonus for a longer stay!!! If it 'adds value' to a homeowner, perhaps (if the cost is more modest, of course) it could be split or shared- spreading the electrician cost over a couple of people. The Price would be very helpful. Also, it's completely 'Nermal' to wanna use your own bathroom, and most people I know would be super grateful for your considerate behavior! Personally, I would shower in the haus & ONLY if everyone else were gone, occasionally use the terlet. But, personal grooming, teeth brushing & ADL's- definitely in my own rig! H2O savings alone (tank trips) makes using the house beaudoir worth it. Just sayin' Great video though- I learnt a ton! I'm a Host truck camper guy, not a B-van owner. Just caught the wiring cost (after the free bonus advice!)- My Bad! Thanks all around!

    Great video. You didn’t mention this but I’m sure it is a given, to offer to reimburse the home owner for the cost of electricity and even water if it is metered, when staying that long with family or friends. Ask before using their laundry facilities for heavy duty items like mats. They are not industrial appliances like at a laundromat so use caution. You talked about “your” expectations but don’t forget to respect their expectations and lifestyle too. They may be relieved not to have to provide meals for guests, for example. That what I been doing when connect my RV at home. Also not been negative not sure the sewer tip is a tip isn’t that a no brained if you can dump you would need to go to the nearest dump station. I think i need to invest and get one of those flexible jose like what you go seems lighter and save space! Thx for asking… in this situation which is semi-permanent, is because the two outlets in the garage are nearly overloaded without the RV. So had to look for an alternative. Which lead to the 30 AMP dedeicated circuit, which works better for current and situation and when RV guests come to visit.

    @@gosmall.livelarge You could use a wheeled blue boy tote to transfer to the sewer clean-out. They make low profile tanks for pop ups that would be low enough. I only suggest these options because driving 30 miles and paying $15 seems excessive, but then I'm used to state park overnights at $20-22 per night including dump stations. Maybe you enjoy your "outings" once a week as it gets you out of the driveway for the day.

    Richard here from Ca. I've often wondered what the increase of a homeowners utility bill would be from plugging our RV;s into them. After Covid-19 clears up and we are permitted to travel more loosely, we would like to visit family and friends in other states but don't want to burden them with an excessive utility bill if we stay for an extended period. Question. Since you tend to stay at your in-laws more frequently, do you have and idea about how much their utility bill has increased? Great video!! Thanks. P.S. Have you ever sanitized your fresh water tank? Is it necessary since you live in yours full time?

    Hey Richard. Sanitized tanks no, but I empty tank regularly and fill with fresh water so the water doesn’t sit. I probably should sanitize. But too busy drinking the water from the system! As to utility bills, quite minimal I think. 6-8 fresh water tank fills in a month at 18 gallons = $10 maybe?! Electric, imagine plugging in a window A/C unit that is used 10-15 hours a day at 70% cycle… guessing $50? Glad to hear you want to stay with friends and family longer

    We do not like dump stations so we bought an external macerator and a 25 foot hose large diameter hose. Costs about $350. We pull up to one side of our home and use the clean out connection. I love it because I can do serious cleaning on the tanks at my leisure. I can dump and rinse as many times as needed. I added a clear connection so I can see where we are at with the cleaning. Using this system I can get all the way to clear water out of the black tank. It can take a while however, usually 2 to 3 rinses. The Travato G has a macerator but not the small hose. Can you connect a macerator hose to the Travato G? They say that you can even use a standard hose in some cases. If you have not already seen this video on black tank maintenance it is very informative. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qYmLqc6mYsq3lqg.html
