I have known and seen the lighthouse since I was a wee girl, as you said Tony,it is the headquarters for the Northern Lighthouse Board. My late father was chief steward aboard the “Pharos” which was berthed in Leith Docks, it was decommissioned in the early 1980s , taken to Nassau and is now a floating hotel. I used to go on many trips with my father taking supplies to the lighthouse keepers, but this one time, I was really upset when I was told we had to stay out in the sea that night as the “wee man” had lost the key to the loch gates, ohh I was so upset 😂. Fantastic memories aboard the Pharos.

Never new about the Tiffany's window. I new about the rest. Our city is chock full of quirky and esoteric oddities..tip to all your readers Tony..ALWAYS look up at the buildings not just at street level often the best hidden architectural features are located there. This especially applies more to Glasgow than The capital.....well done Tony...ggtthb.

It is so much fun wandering around cities and finding quirky architectural features. Years ago when I was walking around Cincinnati, Ohio I found a small, oxidized bronze sailing ship jutting out from the Western Southern Life Insurance building. I have lived in this area all of my life and didn't know this ship was there. Fun!

As a wee lad, I grew up in Edinburgh in the mid-1950s. Your Edinburgh videos are so good. and they always make me nostalgic for a bygone era! One thing I do remember clearly is Binns Department Store, and it was spelt with two "n's" by the way!! So the clock at 8:39 was *THE* Binns Clock, not *A* Binns Clock. It was a famous landmark, as you rightly say!! Sorry!! 😀

I had been to St. Cuthbert's a few times and had never seen the sundial! Thanks for that one Tony! The sundial was probably designed by Mr. James Weir, the builder & designer of one of the many incarnations of St. Cuthbert's in 1772-1774. Mr. Weir's design was the last form of the Church before being replaced by Hippolyte Blanc's version as we see it today. Insrcibed with the motto: "Vivite Fugio" "Live ye, I fly"... tick-tick-tick goes the clock, best get busy with life! Nice one Broonfords! Take care, Paul.

I knew about the binns clock because my friends boyfriend asked to meet her under the clock and this was in the early 1990s and he dump her (broke up with her) under the clock. Well both families were not too happy with the guy i swear there was talk about banishing him and being from Australia I asked what the big deal was and did I get lecture about this was the courting clock and you never disrespect it by dumping somebody under it. It was very serious lol

Edinburgh weather, horizontal rain so wonderfully descripted by Inspector Rebus. Was brought up in and around Edinburgh, while all around are enjoying sunshine, the Fife coast and Edinburgh coast are engulfed in haar.

Love this video! Not only 3 things you might miss, but a bonus sundial! Super neat! I need to go back thru the videos and have a map and plot out all the fun and interesting things to see that I didn’t know about on my first trip. You’re city is beautiful and interesting with so much history....I love it! #BreakfastAtTiffanys 😉

I knew about the Tiffany window in St. Cuthbert's Kirk, but only bc I've been inside 😉 the other 2 quirks? nope! I love the clock's 'courting' history 💙 and the lighthouse being so tiny wouldn't really get a lot of attention, would it? If I had ever noticed it, I might have considered, that a retired lighthouse keeper lived there??? 🤔 Great stuff, Tony! thanks for the walk through, it makes missing Edinburgh, bearable 👋 - love from Denmark 💕🌸🌱

On my trip to Edinburgh I wandered through St. Cuthbert's kirk yard one afternoon looking for the ressurectionist tower because of one of your videos, but I stayed for quite a long time just for the incredible stones and crypts.

Lovely video. Binns Department Store Princes Street building opened in 1935 when Binns expanded into Edinburgh. Binns was a northern English department store chain originally founded as a drapery business in 1807. It suffered during WW2 and was taken over by House of Fraser in 1952. The Binns name was kept for several decades after until it became Frasers. The famous clock was added in 1960. I remember my grandmother, who lived in Kerr Street, would walk up to Binns in the 1960s. It’s sad Princes Street has lost its grandes dames department stores, it no longer has any standout destination or notable independent retailers, so I suppose a Johnnie Walker tourist attraction is a better bet to keep going in that location.

I love these "what you might miss" videos! I had not known about the clock or the lighthouse, but I have seen the Tiffany window (north side near the west end of the church). I was thrilled to see so much screen time given to St. Cuthbert's; I adore that place and visit it every time I'm in town!

A technical advise: when you film windows, water, metal... everything suitable of reflecting light you must place a Polarising Filter on the lens to avoid reflections from sun, light or the trees like here: 03:53. That can let you even see the interiors behind the window pane just by automatically erasing the refection. It's nice to keep discovering that beautiful city with you! I'm in love with Edina!

Kudos to you Tony for your respect of worshippers at the church. I am a atheists' yet I understand that people have other views. As long as they are not harmful and don't effect others, do what you want. Every time I travel and check out the beautiful churches of Europe I make sure to be respectful and mindful of those around me, even if I don't agree.

I’ve seen the lighthouse often and pointed it out. I always assumed it had some thing to do with the Stevensons. I know RLS and his family built a lot of the lighthouses in Edinburgh. Have you ever done the Robert Louis Stevenson trail in Edinburgh. Also, what about the last woman to be convicted of witchcraft and who is now buried in Edinburgh? Keep up the great work..
