My no. 1 tip on these metal valves? Buy extra valves when you're making your air manifold. Sometimes they strip, sometimes they break. Sometimes they don't even work at all. Add five minimum to your total is a good start, I usually buy ten extra just in case or if I want to add another line (s) later. Tapping is absolute must and not that difficult to do, just keep your drill on low and make sure your straight on both planes before you commit to that hole. If you do have a leak in your manifold you can use a little silicone around the valve to help seal it up.

I feel your pain. It took me a while to work out that you can put the valve in the drill chuck. I use 22mm push fit pipe and drill a hole (can't remember what size) but then put the valve in the chuck and went fast until it bit, then slow and finished off by hand. We need some little o rings to seal, I think, but mine are pretty tight already.

When drilling there is no need to reverse, simply keep it going forward and once it's through just run it up and down. Helps clear the swarf and keeps your bits sharp. Old material specialist, know my tools. Love your content, shrimp life is good life ❤

This right here. I've never tapped a hole for the valves, and I even have suitable taps. Just put the valve into the drill chuck and drill it into the hole. Threads bite into the plastic and the end result is air tight.
