I moved to the Bim 2 years ago from Florida. The cost of living (specifically housing) is more expensive in Florida than it is here. Here I get a haircut, shave & hair braided for $75 BBD/$37.50 U.S. Stop going to places like the Cliff to eat and you will find restaurants more reasonably priced.

Because that's the stage that barbados is on as a country. Sure, it may not be on the same level as the USA, but it's competing more than any other Caribbean island. Our exchange rate is by far the closest to fair, compared to all the other islands. Plus, given the fact that Barbados is in the top 10 when it comes to the world's highest costs of living, that makes them viable for comparison.

There are trade offs…. Less stress due to environment, especially coming from countries where black people are being intimidated. Yes it is expensive, but most islands have to import goods from other countries, plus more tourists can drive up prices 🤷🏾‍♀️ You are living in a country that has a lot of benefits - softer water, perpetual sunshine, good food and infrastructure. If you have the benefit of earning US dollars or other foreign currency, you may also have more than a lot of Bajans regarding access to resources etc.

Actually, the water is harder. Much harder. I live here too. It's also very expensive because we our only natural resource is taxation. But drive around this beautiful country and see all the beautiful houses; see all the very expensive cars and revel in its natural beauty, and you'll agree it's a lovely country.

  • @chocolatecutieprincess4603

I live on the island. The water is definitely not "soft" in certain areas they've even given the heads up that the water isn't safe to drink without boiling/filtering it. The environment is not less stressful unless you're a tourist people will be very rude to you for no reason at all. The food is okay if you can afford it however unless you know exactly where to get fruit from be careful buying especially imported fruits because they will most likely be bad or close to rotting within a few days. Curious to what you mean when you say the ingrastructure is good, i know a lot of people that complain about paying someone to do a half ass job here especially when it comes to building homes. When it comes to infrastructure government buildings get built the best. Everything else you said was pretty accurate but be honest about the struggle there are a lot of people here suffering while the government is prioritizing tourism. The more you glamorize the less likely this island will be open to reform. Closed mouths don't get fed

I used to live in Barbados 🇧🇧 and the country is beautiful. For me, I’ve never really found it as a problem that much towards my life. I didn’t realise because I didn’t know where every else was like. If you happen to be a tourist, I completely recommend the island for holidays. Also, a bonus is that sometimes (not always) you can find baby turtles in the early time of the day and late at night. Overall, of course it is amazing here, and I would definitely recommend Barbados 🇧🇧 for people. It is an amazing experience for everyone here and everyone is lovely. When I was abroad, I did notice that there was more of an atmosphere there than in Barbados.

So in 2021, I started growing my own food on my balcony, and it's been help us alot, but heat waves this year was a huge set back. I wish youtube monetization was avaliable here since i loved making gaming videos, I can't make income from it unfortunately. Sometimes i wish i was in Canada so i could make money online :(. However, Regardless I love the beach alot❤❤ ⛱️ and if I was to leave I'll miss the beach and the ability to grow fruits all-year-round, and eating breadfruit.

Yes, the taxes and cost of living is high. However, Barbados has a load of free social services that you have to pay ridiculously for in America.

You right, but everyone pays taxes to help pay for a lot of things we get "free" Health care, education at all levels. Next, our women are not afraid to go to hospital to give birth. ...think about that.

I'm with you on 1 and 3, but I think the cost of living here depends on where in the US you live. I lived in NY and LA, also it's an island maybe compare to Oahu to get a more compareable percentage. I visited a friend in Honolulu the prices for everything from rent to local food was insane.
