It’s little things like these that make future repairs SO much easier

As a former paint associate at Lowe's.. this is so clever. I wish more people had done this. Color matching can get you close, but having the information (especially the color blend on the paint can label) will save a ton of time, money, and hassle.

When we first bought our house, the previous owners had left a folder with all the paint color info, so I went to Lowes with the label information for the lovely light cream colored paint on one of the living room walls (the rest of the living room had been painted a horrible pea green that made it the room feel smaller), and the paint counter manager had a heckuva time finding the paint color, even with the code. It was part of a collection that had just been disbanded, and all the colors had been renamed, and had their store code reassigned, so when they looked it up, it came up a bubblegum pink. We had to bring the can in for them to color match and found the new name and code, and grabbed a paint swatch from the sample wall so we'd have it if we needed it.

If you can't write on the back of an lights switch cover (for example in Europe were there is not much space) make a folder just for your house we're you put this information down and have a list with receipts from furniture (incase someone askes, you want to sell or rebuy anything) manuals from your fridge etc. And a list with all the paints used and we're you bought them for the future. It is really helpful to have everything in one place.

That's a good idea. We have a box we toss manuals into from anything we purchase. We'll have to level up and get a binder for the other house stuff.

When my husband and I moved into our house a few months ago, we found a HUGE fat binder FULL of house info. We still haven't given it a proper look but it has all the appliance manuals and even business cards/ads from people they used for repairs and renovations. Now I'm wondering what else there might be lol

When I used to up cycle furniture, I would give my customers a little tiny jar of the paint for touch ups. They were mostly for children’s rooms. I wish I would’ve known about the paint pens - that would’ve been handy. I put a label on the jars though and got repeat business so that was good.

Its a bit more pricey, but i think some cermanic light switch covers could look absolutely beautiful in their. A little glossy, a little cold.

I bought wide mouth quart mason jars 🫙, plastic lids that won’t rust, stainless steel mixer balls to pit my excess paint in. Then I attached a mini envelope to each jar and put original paint chip in the envelope and labeled the top of the jar and the envelope with the info as well as where I used it. Got so tired of pulling out the huge paint can for touch ups! The switch cover idea is so smart!

I would put the colour formula and a swatch on the back of the swich as well otherwise just the name is gonna be hard to get a direct match considering tint machines so get changed over the years

Save your paint can lids! I dry mine upside down over night then toss in a gallon zip lock bag. They’ll have allll of the info. What brand, finish, exact color name, &, if it’s a retired color. You have loads of paint sample they can color match. Also helpful when picking new colors for other rooms or accent colors. 😊

When we built our house, we took pictures of where all the wiring, pipes, etc, with labels showing which rooms we were in. Since we built our house, we had every piece of paper imaginable, including the plans. We kept manuals and such of anything and everything in a binder. After 25 years of living there, we left a tote of information for the new owners. But I absolutely love the light switch plate. Just brilliant!

Like an angel descending from the Heavens, bringing me things that can solve like 35% of my daily problems.

This makes so much sense. I once peeled some wall and took it to the paint store. I was renting at the time and the guy looks at me and ask if I live in a particular community. I go yea, and he says they get the paint from them, and he gave me a small can. 😂 I got my deposit back.

Keep paint swatches!! Seriously get a good solid colour swatch on a piece of paper and keep it safe. If the colour is discontinued, it can be colour matched and mixed for you!

Because paint changes color over time, and names also change, i would add a drop of the color next to the name under the light switch cover.

I just put the rooms i painted on the paint can and keep the can because there’s usually extra lol

Just use a tiny brush or a regular cup. Don’t need these extra products

How long does the paint last in those pens before they dry out? Can you use it only once?

what does a special pen do differently that a small cheap brush does not?

Does the touch up paint pen dry out after a certain amount of time? It sounds like genius idea but I'm worried it's not a long term solution

Or take a picture of the paint label. Keep the paint label pictures to the cloud.
