The first point is that the institute creating the exam does not affect the difficulty of the exam. Students should not focus on who is creating the exam and instead focus on their preparation. Mehedhi uses the example of the IIT Bombay exam in 2022. Many students believed the exam would be easy because the last time they created the exam was in 2015 and it was an easier exam. However, the 2022 exam ended up having the lowest cut-off score in JEE history.
The second point is that the number of questions and the total marks can vary from year to year. While the exam has been 360 marks for the last few years, the number of questions has changed. In 2021 there were 57 questions, and in 2023 there were 51. Students should be prepared for any variation in the format of the exam.
The third and final point is that students should not set a target score based on past exams. The difficulty of the exam can vary from year to year, so students should focus on giving their best effort during the exam. Mehedhi uses his own experience from the 2023 exam as an example. He thought he would score around 130 marks and rank around 3000, but he ended up scoring 130 marks and ranking 8000. The increased competition in the exam means that even a high score may not result in a good rank.
