3 Theories of the Winchester Mystery House
The Winchester Mystery House is the ultimate escape room. The house was a never-ending project that has doors leading to nowhere, staircases to the ceiling and windows built into the floors. In this video we have 3 theories as to why Sarah Winchester built such a bizarre home.

I lived a few blocks from the Winchester Mystery House and visited more times than I can remember. I still have a copper ash tray with the house in relief stored some where. Never watched a story about it. Thank you for sharing this place. It's facinating on site. The tour guides and workmen always said she built it to confuse the many ghosts who haunted her that were killed by Winchester rifles. Worth visiting if you're nearby.
I lived in San Jose for about 24years and visited the Winchester mystery house numerous times. Defiantly worth the visit

it was on my paper route. They had a pole position game in the lobby. Very cool.
Ironically, she had seances, Ouija boards, she brought spirits in herself, I don't think it was haunted until she conjured things nightly.
They found Annie's lick of hair and Sarah's husband's obituary in the safe because, unlike most folks, she treasured PEOPLE above money. They were the most precious things to her.😊

Something I can really enjoy thanks my friend please continue the sensational work
When I was a kid during the mid 80s, my family visited the mansion and went on one of the guided tours. The Winchester Mystery House is amazing! I've been fascinated about the beautiful mansion ever since. I mostly remember the seance room and the conservatory; the conservatory sticking in my memory because of the uneat floor design as they are considered, technically, "trap-doors," that is the floor has a false, removable top which reveals a wood grated under floor that permits drainage from watering the plants being raised in the considerably large, windowed room. I've got to give Paranormally Listed extra praise for this presentation. As mentioned, I'm fascinated by everything that is 'Winchester Mystery Mansion,' so I've seen and read a considerable amount about the historic house; even have seeing the travesties that were films "based on" the mysteries behind Winchester Mansion. As well, for the best part of what I've seen, read, heard, the presenters tend to focus on the supernatural aspects and alleged history of Sarah Winchester and her fascinating home. Honestly, I had not known about the potential ties to the Free Masons, or the extent of her architecture knowledge. The information of her family members, their ties and traumas beyond that of her husband and daughter was a lot more interesting and informative towards understanding Sarah Winchester's behavior and reasons for building the home. Thanks for a very compelling video on one of my favorite mysteries of the world.
William Winchester's beard, rockin. I wonder what the project manager and the builders thought when they were instructed to build staircases to ceilings etc. Would definitely have been good coin despite the absurdity. Excellent episode PL. Thankyou.

Great episode mate, I really enjoyed it. As the wife, daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter of freemason's I appreciate your commentary in regards to this subject. My father is a rich man, however my husband and grandfather's are defiantly not. The whole point of freemasonry is to take good men and make them better. I have lived a great life with these men and continue to do so. I have learnt much about freemasonry by osmosis and if I could choose my next life I would choose to be surrounded by these men again. Thank you for being respectful about these men and the fraternity.

Actually anywhere from 3,000 to 5,000 people were killed in the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906. That's 700 number was put into the record book because the mayor of San Francisco was afraid that investors wouldn't invest in San Francisco they thought that there was going to be earthquakes there all the time so he lowballed the death toll.

That wouldn't surprise me considering how elected officials worldwide would give lower death tolls and injury statistics to reduce chances of companies (and the folks who work and live near said companies) leaving due to hazardous conditions. I did NOT know she was an Escher fan too!!! Love this tough, tough lady
Apparently what happened was that she was in the process of remodelling when the earthquake happened (no weird rooms or stairs to nowhere, just a normal remodelling) and when the earthquake happened she just sort of decided that it was too much work to start over and indeed she decided to just eliminate and board up whatever was destroyed and keep it like that to fix later but she just never did. Watch Kaz Rowe’s video about it. She explains it much better and gives the sources to check to confirm this information.

Having lived near the Winchester house my whole life and visiting it many times I have learned the following. Although Sara was believed to be a Free Mason, she did not build the house as a puzzle. She was a very spiritual and superstitious person as well. After so many family deaths in a short period, she was overwhelmed with grief and went to a "fortune teller" to see why and possibly learn about how to "speak" to her family's spirits. She was told that the family was cursed due to the many lives lost because of the Winchester rifle... and that to avoid being haunted by those spirits she must build a house, without ceasing. Sara did so and also took it upon herself to conduct seances in an attempt to reach her loved ones spirits. Probably in the process causing hauntings to occur in the house... only to exacerbate her need to "keep building". The main seance room, her favorite master bedroom and one kitchen that has a window in the floor gave me strange vibes each visit. A must see if ever in the area!

As a 3rd degree FaAM and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Sarah was most certainly not a Mason. The French chapter was never officially recognized, and a female would never be allowed entrance to Free Masonry. She may have seen the hall and took inspiration no doubt but that is far from being accepted into the craft. Just FYI. Cheers

Back when I lived in California, I visted it and went on a tour of the house. Not only is it amazing and beautiful, but it is very peaceful, I would have stayed forever if I could. On the other hand I couldn't get out of Hurst Castle fast enough, it is beautiful, but I could feel a lot of evil there. I have been able to see and feel spirits/ghosts since I was quit young and there are places I have been that all the money in the world would not be enough for me to revisit, Hurst Castle being onr.
Dude, I went on the tour, didn’t feel creepy tho.
I've seen countless documentaries about this place in other KZread videos of this place
I feel so very sorry for her. All the money in the world, and so much grief to go with it.
some times, people trying to link things together, gets a bit ridiculous, "she planted palm trees. and Solomon temple had pillars in front of it. therefore she was a free mason." OR, she live in southern CA, where palm trees grow. and palm trees are cylindrical, like building columns. smh.
What a great rifle tho
The spiritualist movement was in full swing during this time and after her husband died and her daughter she used the fortune to hold weekly seances with mediums her friends and kept building according to plans received from each seance i dont know why this guy needs theories or is confused. The builders worked everyday on this place and the mediums were here every week so they explained all of this thoroughly.
13 ghosts for sure.
"How many people have basements in California?"

Hello
I've been there 3 times and never seen a ghost.
It's no secret, Albert Pike already said all that needed to be.
Never believe in soothesayers. I was taught 13 is a good number. Philadelphia USA
She lives
So… as a member of a Masonic organization, Freemasonry is only open to men. There are other Masonic groups that include women. While I enjoyed this video very much, I’d like to present my own theory. I feel it is more likely that Mrs. Winchester, having lost everyone she had ever loved, was searching for a purpose. Due to her intelligence, she found architecture and design as that purpose. Having felt alone in this world, I can speak from experience how comforting it is to surround yourself with things that matter- animate or inanimate. Where the ideas came from, who knows? As secretive as she was, perhaps the number 13 was a bit of a way to rebel against all the bad things that had happened to her. If I was truest afraid of the souls that died by my empire, I would not want to anger them more by spending the “Ill gotten gains” on something so frivolous.
Actually wouldn't she be an eastern star instead of a Free Mason?

I hate to spoil the speculation but Sarah Winchester couldn't have been a Free Mason because only men can join that fraternal order.
MUTTON CHOPS!
Women are never freemasons. Eastern Star, but never a freemason. Doesn't matter how rich you are, there are no women allowed. Women have the Eastern Stars as their version.
You can't be invited to be a Freemason. 2 be 1 ask 1
Freemason didn't allow women. She saw a fortune teller and was told to buy house and build on and don't stop. She would get designs from automatic writing. Not guessing just fact
I guess this is what happens when you go insane with grief and fear and don't talk to the right people about it. Sad, and a waste of her life. She could of had a happy eventful life, but decided to go down a dark path of fantasy, despair and fear. Never really living her life in the real world.
The real story is the top 2 or 3 stories was destroyed in an earthquake and she decided to remove the debri instead of build. The new owners made the story grow.
