    I don't think that "awkwardness" and lack of "comfort" are the main reason you don't want to go back to a beginner level at something. There is also the point that it's just less fun, you cannot do much there, many things can be repetitive to what you already know, etc. And something new may not turn out to be that useful or interesting. Learning just for the sake of learning gets boring too. It's like never ending preparation for some real action without actually getting to the real action. Anyhow, there is this trade-off too.
