Great quote
- Recognize the importance of persistence in learning new skills [0:42]. - Embrace being a beginner and making mistakes as part of the learning process [2:47]. - Hold on to the feeling of being a novice to overcome ego challenges in future learning [3:13]. - Identify role models early on to learn from their expertise and experience [4:07]. - Avoid becoming complacent by constantly seeking challenges and new learning environments [4:50]. - Surround yourself with people who are better than you to accelerate your learning [5:13]. - Aim for the top percentile in your pursuits without the obsession of being the absolute best [5:44].
I don't think that "awkwardness" and lack of "comfort" are the main reason you don't want to go back to a beginner level at something. There is also the point that it's just less fun, you cannot do much there, many things can be repetitive to what you already know, etc. And something new may not turn out to be that useful or interesting. Learning just for the sake of learning gets boring too. It's like never ending preparation for some real action without actually getting to the real action. Anyhow, there is this trade-off too.
This is brilliant. Thank you!

He lost his humility, though.
