As much as there's often a premium for doing so, I'd say you're still better off shopping for them in person. The picture trick is an alright idea, but in person hopefully(if you got your vision checked as well) they can tell you what frame shape is best for you too...at least as far as prescription lenses go. When you throw a prescription lens in the mix, you now have to be worried about if frame x will distort your vision by curving too much, or being to tall, etc..

Great video Alpha, but could you follow up with how to tell what measurement you actually need if the temple length on your current glasses is actually way too short? That happened to me because I was not fitted properly, and now I have no idea how to determine what length I actually need, so I'm unable to order online.

5 yrs later but it’s So funny I read this today because the exact same thing happened to me today. I was set to pick 2 pairs and they had options i liked but they had not idea what they were doing so I walked out. Sigh…on to the the next stop.

Hey, this video was actually extremely useful. I've been wearing glasses since I can't remember and buying a new pair has always been a really unpleasant ritual. However, you forgot to mention that a wrong temple length can be fixed by heating it and reshaping it (depending on the material). I've had it done a couple of times. I have unlimited free customer service where I have been buying them since my parents bought my first ones for the first time.
