However as a person from really old nobility every now and then the old families run out of money in a branch or even a generation because of a new roof or leaking cellar thus comes the notion of gilding the shield ie finding wives or husband with new money to fill upp the coffers and really no- one likes to talk about that as it’s both hold your nose AND if it’s enough money… be really envious.

Influencers and celebrities make their money from self-exposure and being in the spotlight so they have no choice. ‘Old money’ doesn’t work this way so there’s no need to show-off.

I side with old money, however, you need to be aware that the celebrities depend on their public persona to make their money. Once they retire, they tend to disappear from the public life. Paris Hilton is someone who comes to mind. She used to be everywhere back in the early 2000s.

But I am labeling Paris Hilton as a celebrity because I am only taking the money she made in consideration. Also, had the Hiltons been a real old-money family, they would have disown her for the things she was doing in her 20s (eg. Sex tape and reality TV shows).

A lot of ‘old money’ families made their money from dubious activities, exploitation, slavery, etc. I am really not into celebrity culture but let’s not idealise ‘old money’ to the point that we somehow think it’s superior. Celebrities like Angelina Jolie made their money with their talent for entertainment and use that money for universal good and support humanitarian causes. Not all celebrities are the same.

Often , but my experiance is that, that is not always good , seen some brutally toxis stuff done in the name of family honor including someone who I knew who suicided ... the inclination is to not seek help even when help is really needed and that goes for both physical and psychological trouble as to not seem weak. The membrane between old money and celebrities is thinner than this video presents. One, the motion picture industry was originally founded by an organization determined to preserve the past. Part of their job is to take the rap for old money's interests. Many major US celebrities are also honorary British aristocrats. The only reason why they're not full-fledged nobility is because they're not British citizens. Lastly, some old money families have pursued and attained celebrity status. Such as the British Monarchy. Bear in mind that they DELIBERATELY thrust themselves into the spotlight, not out of financial necessity.

There is good in both and bad in both. I like the old money gracefulness and lack of tackiness and there charitable nature but the old money have a habit of trying to keep others down and dependent on them which I do NOT like. The new money people don’t do that which is good but they act too ratchet a lot of the time.

They figured out a quick way to piss off those without the same assets and means is to flaunt it in front of them...yes maybe in the short term you get admired (likes and views), but long term you've just outed yourself as an ostentatious target that people will come to not favor if not outright despise. It took some generations to sink in, but they also grew out of the phase where they felt they "had to" flaunt their wealth to everyone (outside galas and other events).

most old money started poor. a single wealth creator who created enough wealth for multiple generations to live comfortably. It is not a charity, but historically they have contributed to preserving and developing some of the greatest art and architecture. You should read about old money families, even those who no longer have their wealth.

You didn’t really give us much you just kept repeating the same cliches over and over throughout the video. I wouldn’t say one is necessarily better than the other. Yes, new money people are a lot more open about their lives and all that, but that also comes with the nature of their jobs. You’re a singer or an actor. To maintain your marketability, you’ll need to provide your consumers (your fans) with substance. That’s just the way it is. Philanthropy/ public service wise, I feel like those are things that come with time. You have to not only reach a certain level of wealth but of maturity to understand that there is something much bigger than just you, in the world. These old money families than are giving back and all of that (other than the British royal family, though they have their own issues), they didn’t start out that way. Those gilded families were looking for money as well, in the beginning. But with time and generations, once they were no longer worried about putting food on the table, they branched out to a point where they could lend a helping hand. As for the old money vs new money thing, let’s not pretend like these families are so great or so perfect either. Because fact remains that many of them acquired their fortunes on the back of slaves and other poorly compensated workers. So while they speak of tradition and culture, they still remain (purposefully so) segregated and classist. Gee, I winder why🤔
