I'm not in Colorado, I'm in the Bay Area. Here, October is the best time of year to put up a feeder! We're on the Pacific Flyway, there's lots of hummers migrating south right now, and boy are they hungry. I've never seen them fight so hard for the feeder, or drink so much in one gulp. It's actually the only time of year I bother now.

Ana's winter over in Northwestern Oregon, where I live and keeping or putting up hummingbird feeders is a good time of year for their wellbeing.

Honey bees arent pests.....they are the ones doing most of the work to make your garden vegetables grow.

They are pests in this context as they're not the intended consumer.

😢I saw a few bees after the HBs left. I left a couple of my empty feeders hanging to brighten up an otherwise dreary Winter. Bees started coming around in Winter - they thought it contained nectar. 🥺Felt sorry for them & made a small batch of feed for them. Wasps, bumble bees, and even a couple of yellow jackets came by - they never bothered me when I passed inches from the feeders. I just gave my feeders a thorough cleaning and am currently whipping up a batch of nectar for my expected guests - which should arrive any day now🥰 But, someone's right, BEARS!!! - nothing like looking out your patio door at 2AM and seeing a 5' shadow outside your patio door😖

We had ruby's up until mid November in southern Ontario, honestly if it's not worth it to save one birds life to one person, I'm glad their are some that choose too. Migration times change birds evolve. I'd do anything to help them and I hope others feel the same. This advice does not apply to all situations.

I figured out a great way to clean the hole in the center of the flower of your hummingbird feeder. Use an interdental brush! They are tiny and fit perfectly. If you're not familiar with these, you find them over by the toothpaste and dental floss area of the grocery store.

"Why bother when they're mostly gone?" Because they're mostly gone, not entirely gone.

After a month we finally got a bird feeding. Next day the nectar went from red to clear?

I don't know what could cause nectar to change color, but there is no need to use dyed nectar. Four parts water to one part sugar is all you need. Thanks for watching.

Is sad to know a lot of people doesn’t change the nectar for many days. I decided to plant more flowers and stop feeding them because i didn’t have enough time to change the nectar every other day.

I noticed that my broad-tailed hummingbirds don't like to share the feeder, even though there are six feeding ports. I hung a second feeder so they don't have to share. Rufous hummingbirds are known to be very territorial. They should be migrating through Colorado now, but I don't get them at my feeders. Thanks for watching.

Hummung birds are very territorial.....you need to put outmore than one feeder.....put out at least 3 and space them pretty far apart....that will make it next to imposssible or very hard for one hummingbird to guard them all and give other hummingbirds the opportunity to get some too.....i had the same problem and thats how i solved it

I have bats roost in a corner of my house in mid-summer, but they have been gone for about a month. They don't come near my hummingbird feeder.
