Traffic is bad there. Houses and rentals are expensive and going up daily because people are pouring in. I would very much dispute many of these realtors claims of low inflation here and I am a resident.

They are making it sound much less expensive than it has become, and it's getting more expensive every day. I am a resident. There are NO small houses in good shape for sale here, either. We get new parks to pay taxes on every day, which look nice but most of which are little used but expensive in taxes, which are steadily going up.

The information you talked about in the 5 reasons was good, sub'd we moved to Bluff City from Michigan, we retired here. own 4 acres on a mountain the house is sucluded , we love it here, love the talk about winter, don't miss anything about Michigan' winters, they have nothing like that here. Heck I had to dig up the snow shovel a couple of years ago. Love it either way. Great informative videos. I do miss some of the foods in Michigan but hey we figured it out. Love the ma and pa diners. Miss Buddys pizza and a good old Coney Dog like at the ball park

I was thinking of moving to Johnson City, as well as my sister and brother in law but now I’m reading about the homeless situation and I think I’ll pass. The endless “homeless” problem (really mental health and drugs) is one reason I escaped Kaliformia. Not anxious to move where they refuse to call the problem what it is. You’re making the same mistakes I’ve seen already made and, yeah, no thanks. Best of luck but if you’re “leaders” are so weak and mushy I’m not holding out much hope.

Generally speaking how is safety? All those online city/neighborhood stats aggregator sites have me worried making it seem like one of the most dangerous cities... that and Kingsport. Would love to get your take on general safety. Me and my wife have a two year old and are planning to move from upstate New York.

In terms of crime, youll be fine. Ive lived all over, orig from Guilderland NY. Currently I live in a "bad" area of JC adjacent to downtown and its not bad at all crime wise. Ive had zero problems. But there are downtrodden people about. Not sure about the schools or any of that because I dont have kids. Other nice E TN towns: Unicoi, Greenville, Jonesboro, Bristol, Elizabethton, Mountain City. Something to know about E. TN is its gritty and funky. if you want something a little smoother in a cubicle, insurance adjuster kind of way, try NC (fabulous Boone is near by). If you want a little more drama & pageantry try SC (Akin is nice).

The problem is rich people (especially liberals) selling their expensive NY, Cali, FL, etc...homes and building new construction McMansions or HOA developments, which raises the average value and taxes on the area. Not to mention KZread, Instagram, and TikTok showing off affordable, un-liberalized states and cities, which causes people to flock there to avoid their degenerate, high cost of living dumps. This results in the locusts moving and repeating the process over and over again until there is nowhere affordable left.
