Great tips. Tip three really rings true for me. I have been loading up on the backhand with a huge backswing. Something to fix! Thank you! 😊

A good backhand has much to do with footwork closing your stance so that you are not reaching across your body allows you to get full body rotation for power.

I realize recently and your video reiterated watching the ball all the way to the paddle. I don’t watch on the backhand side but do on the forehand side. I wonder if it has to do with my dominant eye which is my right eye. Serena Williams former coach Patrick Mouratoglou talks about this a lot w tennis. Taken to the extreme, maybe your dominant eye should help determine what side you normally play if you stack. A video on this would be cool and different.

You are correct the tilt of the head and which eye is dominant can be factors. We experimented with that a lot in my golf days, particularly with putting. I'll add it to the list

For me, watching the ball to contact point has always been easier and more natural for backhands as I have no where else to look. Oddly, I don't have the best backhand in tennis but it's the better shot for me in pickleball and yes, continental.

For most of us one side is easier than the other. I like my backhand too. 😜

What about turning your torso (and legs if needed) so you aren't putting all that stress on your shoulder for the backhand?

Yes turning the body and using core and lower body may reduce stress on the shoulder.

I cannot watch the holes on the ball, I can’t tell which way it’s turning when it’s coming towards me I just don’t see it? Might be my age I’ve been playing about two years. How can I train my eyes to see this?

How about starting with a game of catch. Grab another player when you are warming up, stand 5-10 feet away from each other and start by tossing it gently to each other. Focusing on watching the holes on the ball all the way to your hand. As you are able to do that start tossing it high and low to make it more challenging.

I never saw any pingpong players play with double handed BH… PB paddle isn’t heavy to be held with 2 hands… Why do people do play with 2 handed BH?

Ben johns is a former ping pong player and he will occasionally use a DHBH. A DHBH adds power to shots that allow you time to swing a DHBH. Sometimes you need to hit a single handed backhand when time is an issue. As you progress in this game, you will understand
