3 Peaks Fell Race | 4K | A Short Film About A Fine Line - 66th Annual Yorkshire Three Peaks Race

Спорт

The 66th annual 3 Peaks Fell Race was my first and with big goals this Fell Running film documentary follows the fine line between success and failure...
✅ SUBSCRIBE: kzread.info...
The Three Peaks Fell Race takes in 3 of the biggest mountains in Yorkshire, starting in Horton hundreds of fell runners from across the UK ascend Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Inglebrough for 23.5 miles and 5200ft of relentless fell running.
As Fell races go this is the most iconic and affectionately named the 'Marathon With Mountains'. My goal was to finish in under 3 hours and 40 minutes for a 1st class time.
Fell Racing is completely different to Trail or road and yet the three Peaks race merges all 3, I trained very hard and specific towards this event and share how to fuel the 3 peaks race and the best gear for the three peaks fell race. If you enjoy the film or gain any insight I'd much appreciate a like and love hearing from viewers in the comments.

Just signed up for Cape Town 3 peaks challenge 2024 n I feel like my training period is not going to be enough 😢 😢 😢 . Paid for the classic package as a beginner I've got mixed feelings....excitement outweighs the anxiety. Can't wait!

Very nice that will be an amazing experience. As long as you're training consistently that is the important bit the one thing you don't 'fell' till race day is just how bigger a compound effect consistency has.

Thanks Stu, theres actually a bonus training session and fell shoe review coming next week...15 minute hill reps, that was a icing on the cake and my last big session. Thanks for the support. I'm in that weird place now after a major race with no immediate 'A' races planned so going to knuckle down and focus on development.

The isolation of Whernside climbing through the mist with just the decent ring of cow bells was so serial after hearing the announcers at Ribblehead and crowds, just the whole experience, but the cut-offs need training for.

@@DarrenSmithTrailRunning Agreed, I certainly wasn't expecting the grass to be so tall, so found that to be a tougher climb than Ingleborough. Myself, Ricky and eventual winner Gary ended up getting lost in the clag and drifted quite far east of the summit, costing us the lead at the time, we even had to get our maps out at one point! I did the race twice in 1977 (dry, hot) 3:13 for 49th place and 1978 (driving rain, cold) 3;24 for 57th place. Your concentration on fuelling I found interesting but back then I can only recall pushing down "jam butties" nervously within minutes of the start in the village hall and feeling bloated going up Pen Y Ghent. Nothing after that! No gels etc back then of course.

  • @DarrenSmithTrailRunning

Thanks Stephen. If you really want something for wet stone I'd suggest looking at VJ but issue there is the width and general comfort, you can sacrifice lug depth to get the VJ Ultra though as thats wide and would be good on wet rock. Unfortunately any shoe with the stick required on wet rock will wear down on tarmac though. The ones I refer too in this video are Inov-8's G 210 which I just did a video on, they are great but only for shorter, soft fell races really as minimalist. I am also testing the VJ Spark but a question of if the width would be wide enough if you're a Altra man.

Hi Steven that's some going from April well done! I get pissed off when hearing people comment on weight, coming from a Dancing background I saw the mental side of how this can effect people who don't even have much weight to lose, people don't realise they can ignite mental illness in their ill used words. But good to hear you have taken it in a positive direction, if you're running too its important to maintain a good diet and not be too tempted to cut back on calories...I always say its about WHAT is IN the calories not HOW MANY calories you put in and its served me well. Thanks mate, the shoe I’m talking about on Wednesday is an alternative for the shorter races but not sure it’ll be cushioned enough for longer stuff. It’s the x-talon G210 but I’m looking at another shoe as potential longer distance option as we speak also, just need to feel it out for another few weeks once the leg is right before I start sharing.

@@DarrenSmithTrailRunning not sure what your history with shoes is but judging that you like inov8, pretty tapered, have you tried the hoka EVO jawz? Awesome grip and pretty well cushioned too, too narrow for me though. I am an Altra fan, so big fan of the king mt 2 for grippy action 👍

@@movemorenowjames that’s the strange thing I’m not a fan of tapered/narrow shoes but the G210 seems to work because of how flexible the upper is and the general fit. But as mentioned not for long races.

Thanks and good call on VJ, I am very familiar with them. Use the iRock for shorter fell races and find them a little too narrow for comfort on longer stuff. But testing the Spark as we speak to review and defo got my eye on the Xtrm, just a shame I had none suitable for the 3 Peaks as the Sparks were slightly too small so waiting on a half size up

@@DarrenSmithTrailRunning ah brilliant. I also find the iRock too narrow but the Xtreme are just about bearable. Had 3 pairs of the Maxx too. Looking forward to trying the spark. Well done again on the 3 peak race.

Yeh I tried the MaxX too and while grip was great on rock the lack of lug depth was a problem for where I run, so the Spark could be a real option. Good to know the Xtrm is a little wider.
