3-4 months to go 'til more paddling...editing canoeing trips is a little painful. Bitterly cold here right now as I'm sure it is for many of you. At -39 with the windchill yesterday, I was starting to worry about my fingertips out there. Stay warm y'all 🔥

Hey John would love if you put in the description when the trip was, or pinned a comment like this up top. Been watching for a long time and like the re edits/ trips from earlier in the year, I’m just always curious when it’s from. (This one is clear, some of the winter re edits had me confused haha) Keep up the good work!

Hello from Florida! I'm not sure how I found your content, but I've been watching for about a month now. Of all the backcountry paddler/excursion stuff I've been watching recently, I gotta say that it is your content that resonates with me the most. Your passion for the environment and the places you visit really rings solid for me and I appreciate it quite a lot. Your commitment to both the art of angling AND the sustainability of the resource is inspirational and I deeply appreciate it. A big thanks to both you and Erin for showcasing the beauty of the Superior area and the wonder of the wildnerness in general. Keep up the good work, and I'll keep watching. Much love, mate.

I also really enjoyed this one. I like how you stop and smell the roses and show all the small details of the trip. I also used to canoe up every creek and river I could in Red Lake Ontario area when I was young and find hidden treasures like that amazing waterfall. Your drone footage is great and adds a lot to your adventures. And you eat so well. I like how you grilled the steak right on the coals. And yes sometimes a potato does taste better then a steak. Simply peaceful video with hidden gems of tranquility from the monarch butterfly warming it's wings in morning sun rays to the fishing reel waiting it's first cast of the day to chubby gray squirrel nibbling a snack, the bends around the river with a busy beaver swimming to it's next tree. In the silence of the water splashing against the paddle as your canoe takes break for a stroll upon dry land that brings a discovery of a cascading waterfall that boldly says this is the end but don't be sad more awaits you down the next bend...

My husband and I did a North drive from Niagara to Thunderbay a few years back touring all the falls. Such beautiful country. Nice drone footage, not much on muddy water, no fish. As Kenny Rogers would say, “ You have to know when to hold ‘em, and know when to fold em”. Nice trip out though beats sitting around waiting for the snow to melt. Stay safe.

If you want to enjoy potato on yet another level, get a handful of the evenly sized potatoes (goose-egg sized for the best results), ideally from the high starch variety (baking potatoes), then bake it in remainings of the campfire - on a bed of ash, completely covered in ash, then covered with embers. If you don't have embers you can burn a handful of the small twigs on top of it. Not too hot. Restrain yourself for about 10-15 minutes, uncover them, roll on the other side, cover again, bake further 5-10 minutes. Take the smallest one out, try to "squeeze" it in the middle on something - they're soft like baked potatoes when ready. Enjoy with a sprinkle of salt :) (can also be achieved in the barbecue if you save ash like myself, glowing charcoal works as good as embers on the campfire :) )

Thank you Jon for taking me out of my reality, if just for a short while. I’m on chemo therapy treatments for colon cancer and the first 5 or 6 days after the treatments life for me is at its worst. Watching your video takes me away from all that and brings me back to my younger days when I used to sits in the middle of nature and just observe. Enjoy your time in the wilderness and take it all in because life goes by much faster than most people think, you wake up one day and say to yourself where did the time go. Thank you again and keep up the good work.

Really appreciate that Marcel and glad it takes the edge off of the treatment for a few minutes. Can't imagine the battle you're going through and how hard it must be to will yourself into getting the next treatment, with the awful days that follow. Stay strong and hope you can find a chance to get to a local waterway or wooded area to take in some peace 💚

I hope you are feeling better....I don't have colon cancer, but I was in the hospital for quite a long time including over Christmas and new year's. New year's day I was having surgery to remove 10 more inches of my small intestine in my 4th bowel resection. My heart goes out to you. These videos do the same for me so I completely understand where you're coming from. Prayers and virtual hugs❤

Great video, so many parallels for me. The first was the geese overhead. We get Canada geese in Northern Ireland over wintering here so they are with us and with you, I wonder if we ever see the same ones? The butterflies reminded me, last week I took my NC Supernova out of my canoe loft for its first paddle in 6 months and there was a butterfly hibernating on it. So I gently moved it into a dark corner where it wont be disturbed again. Then the dark tributary flowing into the creamy river from your drone footage looked like a pint of Guinness being poured into a glass. Keep up the good work buddy, its always good to get a notification that you've posted another video. Beer and crisps time!!

Thanks Mack! I really want to...I recently bought an enormous canoeing atlas for northern Ontario called Canoe Atlas of the Little North with all kinds of incredible routes up there. But I'd prefer to do it when Erin could join (when she's done her master's). Also the thought of polar bears strikes fear in my heart, so I would most likely get a pick-up before getting into polar bear range unless we went with someone experienced with them and who was capable with firearms
