I think, he is man of perfection. When he showed his hockey stick, I understood he cannot compromise on anything when his passion speaks. When showed the bag, it is clear, mo matter what, his items are very important and not to be discarded. When the CEO position opens up, he was redesignated from GM to CEO according to wikipedia. It was not a promotion (i.e. not an achievement). In a recent social media interview, TKL shared with the interviewers that his background is programming. So, one wonders in what ways did he contribute to the growth of NTUC Income?

The two highest office holders in our country should not be long term allies, otherwise it's really not an ideal check and balance situation, should there be difficult decisions to make, an independent president can do better, otherwise because of "friendship", decisions can be very difficult to be made.

The presidency needs an independent-minded person. Whether one was previously affiliated to the government does not mean one was not independent. Do not confuse the term independent-minded.

​@@ansori123 It's not just about being independent-minded, no problem on that. Actually not a problem on reserves either, it's just a yes/no thing, a joint decision with CPA. The main thing I'm more concerned is that CPIB was made by parliament's law that CPIB cannot conduct investigations on their own, unless prime minister or the president approves it, so it's like a system that can be gamed. And by having 2 friends with direct reporting/direct contact relation for decades now at the top 2 positions, that is very dangerous. You can be independent-minded but people will always discount a bit for friends and relatives, unless Tharman is such a heartless emotionless soul, then we can believe that he can do such a job. (But I don't believe. 100% there will be feelings of indebtnes since his promotion is direct result from PM Lee, this means that if there are high level probes, both of them can block out. CPIB is required to sign official secrets act, no media will know also, that means essentially Singaporeans lost the control of check and balance, they can do anything that they like, and we will only know on surface level that everything looks ok)

While some Singaporeans have a good impression of Tharman resulting from his calm and steady demeanour and highly articulate speech, I have a very different view of the man. The lack of independence alone is enough for people not to vote for him..

How can Tharman profess to be a person of good character when he is just as complicit as those PAP cabinet ministers?Cause his supporters will overlook all his mistakes If all candidates from the private sector are expected to demonstrate their financial competency as required under the prevailing qualifying criteria for the Presidential Election, which is dictated by the PAP-led government, then why is Tharman exempted from this criterion of the PAP?

Didn't you read the rules? There's private sector criteria and public sector criteria. Of course, the ruling party has the advantage of writing the rules of the game. They stick to those rules wherever possible. Other countries use bullets and goons to muzzle their challengers. Not SG.
