3 Month Review; Milwaukee M4 Driver Update and Upgrades

Ғылым және технология

A few months ago I got my own Milwaukee M4 electric screw driver and I was so excited to have it and use it. I've definitely have been using it; even if its not as much as I used it in my old job where they provided the same tool. However today I'm showing you two major upgrades that will make your life so much better if this is a tool you have, or you use any tool in a similar way.
First thing I upgraded was the bit. For some reason the bit that came with the driver wouldn't hold a magnetic charge when charged with my magnetizer. Second is the bit holder. Holy cow! This slim LOCKING bit holder is a game changer for me. I can't tell you how many times I've driven in a screw and pulled my drill away just for my bit to be stuck in the end of the screw.
These two upgrades are must haves if you use a driver as much as I do.

That DeWalt bit holder is one of the best purchases for me in 2022. Glad you made an updated video.

I love the M4. It’s a great backup-to-the-backup, and also really helps when I need two different bit drivers but don’t have a free hand to change them, I just keep the M4 in my pocket and switch between the drill

It fits so nicely in a pocket 👌 The guys I work with joke that I need a leather gun holster for it. I'm not opposed to the idea 🤔

I have the metabo hpt version of that pencil screwdriver. I got that one over other brands because I had a hitachi version and when it finally died , i replaced it with the metabo hpt one after they changed names. But it was also like half the price of the milwaukee and makita versions. Those longer bits are definitely the way to go on these types of driver especially when the screws are in recessed holes where the bit holder wont fit. I got the wiha 6 inch bits but they werent impact rated and a little pricy. The fit of the phillips tip on screws is so precise and extra length really helps so I feel theyre worth the cost. Great follow up review video with real world use experience.

I just saw in my recommendations a video project farm did comparing these, and I need to watch it. I've seen Metabo do surprisingly well in some tests. The price on this is definitely the biggest downside. The kit I linked comes with a 6in philips too, but every once in a while I need a different bit, so having one I can change makes sense. Thanks for watching

Milwaukee makes multiple bit holders with magnets had extend magnetism to the tips. My Milwaukee bit kit came with the gen3 m12 hammer drill&impact, batteries, charger kit. $199

I was looking for info about the screwdriver, but just ordered the bit holder you mentioned. I've been using the Irwin locking bit extensions for a while, which I think are almost certainly stronger (I'll still use them with SpeedBore auger bits), but you're right about needing a narrower locking holder for screws. I'm excited about the 6" and 12" versions as well - losing a bit down a hole is super frustrating. :D Also, I generally enjoyed the video. Longer than necessary, a little rambling but still useful and one take without a bunch of unnecessary effects -- basically just like what I do every time I make a video. 😆 So enjoy the tiny gift. :p

Even though I really like Milwaukee for smaller tools and I have a Makita impact driver shaped like this as well as a much cheaper Ryobi), I'll probably get the Dewalt screwdriver for this purpose. Per kzread.info/dash/bejne/mJ-WtrCGmJjgfLA.htmlsi=-ckwDjJQPHiOB9a9.

I know exactly what you mean about bits. Same circumstances working on medical equipment. Funny I ended up with the Milwaukee's too. Then I noticed a co-worker using them also, entirely independent of me. So they must be on to something 👍

Btw I have a Mikita holder that has a magnet *and* tension from a ring insert. Good Lord it grabs. If I insert 1" bits I must use pliers to get them out. But it's perfect for the longer bits, and very slim profile which I too require for tight spaces.

I have this and I am curious to know if you have heard anything about the forward/reverse switch failing? I have read a couple reviews where people have claimed that they have failed. Mine is 3 years old and still works fine but I don't use it everyday. I really like the M4 because it's not quite as bulky as some, it is more of the diameter of an actual screwdriver handle. They are great for installing fixtures because of the low speed setting and the ability to set the torque so they don't stip out threads.

I use mine every day, and have never heard of any issues with the switch.

Hey, any idea if there's a bit holder for these to hold spare bits on the driver somewhere? Like there other impacts, drills, etc have. I think Milwaukee kinda dropped the ball, like they do on a lot of their tools, they do the bare-minimum and charge the max. Should've had a LED on this at least imho, but other tools like my m18 inflator they could've taken notes from DeWalt's version which has 3 power options plus dual use.

you gotta try out the Norske bit holder that Project Farm reviewed. It's the best Ive used. Locks the bit in & when you pull the sleeve/chuck back the bit pops out just a little for easy/quick change outs. Magnetism is VERY strong too

@@GrantButler I'm on the Makita platform but if another company comes out with a great tool I buy it. I love the Dewalt gyro. The other reason I bought it was it had more amps than the other brands. I just received a Milwaukee installation driver kit and really like that too. I have seen reviews where people didn't like the gyro but I really like not having to press a button for reverse and I can control the speed by just turning my wrist. For a locking bit driver I wouldn't want that long Dewalt thing you bought. Check out Wera they have a smaller footprint and work great.

@Scott S my reason are more job specific for me why I chose mine. I dont always have room to twist my wrist when removing screws on the equipment I repair. I run everything dewalt, but got this one Milwaukee tool.

@@GrantButler Ahhh I can see if you were in a tight enclosed space it might be an issue. I started out on Dewalt and my drills kept needing new triggers so I went to Makita. If I were to start over I would probably go with with Milwaukee. I'm on 18v and not sure how long they will keep coming out with new stuff since they now also have 40v. No issue with the tools though.
