RECIPE 1: Rose Water Recipe - For Witchcraft and Rituals:
Supplies:
Dried rose petals or Rose Buds
Witch hazel made only of witch hazel extract and up to 14% alcohol
Distilled Water
Directions:
Choose a glass jar with a lid, sized to match the amount of product you want to make; you will want to fill the jar fully with the herbs and witch hazel, not leaving an air gap. I always prefer to start with a small batch.
Add the herbs to the jar, filling the jar halfway. Pour in the witch hazel to fully cover the herbs, filling the jar all the way to the top. And that’s it! Let the jar sit for 2 to 4 weeks, and give it a shake every couple of days to encourage the extraction.
Always label your infusion with a date so you know when it’s time to strain out the herbs. Leave yourself a calendar reminder, so that you won’t forget! When it’s ready, strain out the herbs and reserve the infused witch hazel in a glass bottle.
Directions:
- Simply add all these ingredients into a large glass container.
- Allow the ingredients to sit in the vodka mixture for a moon cycle. It is great to make it at a full moon and charge it under the moon after you put the ingredients together, or make it at a new moon and charge it under the full moon halfway through the cycle.
-When it is finished, you can strain the herbs out or use as is!
RECIPE 2: How to Make Rose Water - For skin:
NOTE: It's important to note that while rose water is generally considered safe for most skin types, it's always a good idea to perform a patch test before applying it to your face to ensure you don't have an adverse reaction.
INGREDIENTS:
Two cups fresh rose petals OR one cup of dried rose petals
Two cups of distilled water
*Makes approximately 2 cups of rose water
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS:
- Add the rose petals to a small saucepan with water
- Stir them together well to saturate the petals as they will tend to float to the top.
- Put the pot on the stove, on low heat.
- Continue to stir. I mix in the petals so that they are completely covered in the water.
- When the liquid starts to steam, cover with the top of the lid, and set a timer for 20 minutes. The lid is crucial because you don’t want the essential volatile oils to escape with the mist and steam.
- After 20 minutes, strain the mixture through a fine sieve lined with cheesecloth or through a nut milk bag.
- Add a lid to the rosewater and allow it to cool to room temperature.
🌸 Shelf Life and Storage:
Store your rose water in a glass jar or a spray bottle depending on how you plan to use it. The rose water should be kept in the refrigerator, not at room temperature.
Since rose water does not have any preservatives added, it only lasts for three to seven days after making it. This is why I make small batches.
