Hello, Canadian/former Law graduate. Yes, you can pass on your citizenship, but it’s complicated. I suggest searching ‘the second-generation cut-off rule’. Basically, if your kids are born outside of Canada they are 1st gen and safe, but if your kids are born outside of Canada and their kids are also born outside, your children’s children (your grandchildren) can’t inherit citizenship. It was originally designed to protect indigenous communities post-‘60s sweep’. Anyhoo, good luck!
You are right when you said it is a relative answer. It depends on everyone's situation. To me, after living in Canada for such a long time, paying exaggerated taxes, working hard(two jobs)to make a retirement plan(which are horrible and miserable), and also after covid, I realized something very important: The government wouldn't protect you if you are overseas if you are just a P.R. Neither, I can't get good jobs with the government. So in my case I deserve it and earned it.

The government does not always protect you if you're a citizen overseas especially if that foreign country happens to be unfriendly and very powerful like China and Russia.

You’re welcome!
Hey Christi! So informative as always! My wife and I love your videos! We're looking to settle in Calgary in the NE, SE & SW regions. Just curious: where are you situated? Some areas more expensive than others like the W .... JUST curious! :)

Hey Brian, welcome to YYC (soon)! The short answer: we are in the NW and honestly once I started typing out the response I was like: we should answer in this in a video response with my husband. There is a lot of factors in deciding where makes sense (work, kids, transit vs cars, lifestyle) but I would say don’t try to buy immediately- get to know your neighbourhood first and then drive around in the other neighbourhoods to get a feel for them.

@@ChristiInCanada As parents we very much have the intention of residing around the correct school zone. Thanks for the advice, a video would be great!

@@briannkosi1079 That's an interesting factor, I would say that would definitely narrow down your choices. Is there a specialized schooling route you wanted to go with your kids, if you don't mind me asking? Or just a proximity to neighbourhood schools?

@@ChristiInCanada We're totally clueless! :D Of course we've considered the RRT / LRT but certain areas the metro doesn't run through like the N for example. Proximity to the neighborhood school is our biggest consideration, then work-proximity. We intend to buy a small car to get around, just in case you settle in the wrong in the area or work distance is beyond the metro line. Ja ! For new immigrants; knowing WHERE to settle is balance of so many variables. BTW - we're still in SA --- doing our research and intend to settle 2025. 🛫

I think you have a great job with research so far. I can definitely keep that in mind when we respond. Also, if you kids are old enough and the distance is appropriate- they can definitely walk to school (and by middle school (gr 7/8)- even on their own as it’s really safe). And yes, definitely would say there will be some trial and error in finding the “right” fit location as a newcomer. And that’s totally a part of the process.
It's worth it for people with bad passports.. Ps : LUVE YOUR energy girl 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you Safia! I feel you deeply on the bad passports comment. Travelling with a South African passport means you collect visas like its a hobby. Versus a Canadian passport where they literally wave you into the country.

Canadian passport is not the strongest. It ranks only somewhere 10 in the world. Singapore and Japan are stronger.

@@mark72141 bro, when You have a passport that REQUIRES you VISA to every possible popular country.. Then you'll feel what we feel.. Btw when you compare the difference between the first 10 passport is absolutely INSIGNIFICANT
Hi Christi, I'm planning to move to Alberta by applying AAIProgram as a video camera operator( medium demanding job) and work under a private video production company. How long do you think It will take to obtain the PR status.
