    A great video, so thank you. The 2020 is most definitely aiming to improve inter-SCRUM team relationships. Over the years I have seen many very well organised and optimised teams deliver on their own backlogs without thinking about dependencies. SMs in those teams seem happy to only raise the dependency and leave it as that. Whereas others that I have worked with, including myself, do their upmost to go to other SMs and see how they can work together to ensure that everyone is happy. Having the requirements of a SM called out in the guide is a great way forward as it helps new and introspective SMs ensure that they are doing the job well and their team justice. From experience, the SMs that hide behind the team are not the type to go an read the guide! So their teams and organisations may continue to suffer (in the loosest sense of the word).

    Thanks Daria it was really helpful!! For an action item, I think this calls for a change in mindset from a vertical growth to an horizontal growth for scrum masters in an organisation. Running a community of practice for scrum could be a good start. With Scrum Master referred to as 'true leader' as against 'servant-leader', now it implies increase in expectations and accountability towards improvement in state of Scrum not just limiting it to a team but organization as a whole.

    thanks a lot daria for your perfect video,I think one of the most important action that we have to do is that trying hard to train people in organization about emprical situation and about scrum and the other one is that try to remove barrier between stakeholders and scrum team and of course helps product owner to define a cohesive product goal

    What actions would you take? I would maybe communicate the updated guide, breaking it down simply in a blog in our community. Then I could hold a open discussion forum for those in the organisation to gather feedback

    as you have mentioned, now scrum master should be more accountable and stay up-to-date. and they should be on top of establishing or implementing scrum within the team or organisation.

    Hey Daria, Can you please share your thoughts on this? I have seen teams conducting Stand-up calls twice in a day (Morning and Evening) during the sprint execution. When pointed out, they say that the Evening calls are to ensure the tasks are on track; as discussed in the Morning call. So that necessary actions (emails/reminder/escalations etc) can be taken before closing of the day. Do you recommend Stand-Ups can happen twice in a day? However it's not recommended by Scrum Guide; as far as I have interpreted. How can SM deal in this situation?

  • @ScrumMastered

    @ScrumMastered

    3 жыл бұрын

    If it helps the team to stay more focused and keep track of things, then there is nothing wrong with it. As long as they conduct a Daily Scrum once a day for 15 min discussing their progress towards Sprint Goal, don't try to fix what' not broken. But it is up to you to observe these interactions to see whether it is aligned with the spirit of collaboration and empiricism

    What is the difference between accountable and responsible

  • @ScrumMastered

    My personal understanding is that 'responsible' means being the person who is supposed to do X, while 'accountable' means the person who will be asked for the result/outcome of X. I might be wrong, but that's my take on it.

    Hi Daria! can you please, recommend Scrum master certification online program.

  • @ScrumMastered

    @ScrumMastered

    I would recommend going with known and proven provides, such as Scrum.org (for PSM) or Scrum Alliance (for CSM). Both provide live classes, and with current world situation, most of the training is now available virtually. Any other online training that offers self-study is not verified and might not be even aligned with the certifications themselves. It might help you get the certification, or it might teach you all the wrong things. It's difficult to say. If you prefer to study at your own pace I would recommend looking up resources, videos, blog posts and books that are recommended, for example, at the Scrum.org website

    @@just1live it all depends on what you are looking for. I just want to add some more info for clarity. If you go for CSM (Scrum Alliance), you have to attend a class to be able to pass the exam and your certification expires, so you'll have to pay to renew it. If you go with PSM, you don't have to attend a class and can pass the exam on your own, and the certification doesn't expire. Though we do recommend you actually attend a class. All courses created for CSM are trainer driven. Basically, each trainer creates their own class themselves. No one is there to restrict them, but also no one is there to verify what they teach is aligned with Scrum. You might get an amazing trainer with amazing content, or you might get something not ideal or that has not been updated in years. If you look at recognized trainers, e.g. Mike Cohn, their classes cost pretty much the same price as Scrum.org ones. As for PSM classes, all of them are curated. Initially created by Ken Schwaber himself, the course material is reviewed, updated, and improved all the time by a select number of trainers who steward the course. Any Scrum.org trainer will always deliver the same high-quality content that is aligned with Scrum and is up-to-date. The material is engaging and is based on a practical view of how companies work. In addition, with the release of the new Scrum Guide, Scrum.org courses will be updated in early 2021 to reflect the new changes and to prepare you for the new PSM exam. You pay for what you get. Now it's up to you to look at pros and cons and decide for yourself.

    Hi Jose With regards to your discussion with Daria , I would just like to add that PSM gives far better chance to understand your own understanding of Scrum than CSM certification. Both because PSM has greater passing percentage of around 85% compared to CSM' 65% and also PSM exam testes your practical scrum knowledge in much more better way that CSM probably does . I other words it is hard to fail CSM certification exam and it is hard to pass PSM certification exam.

    @@ScrumMastered :-) of course is something not existing. i was joking referring to the point you made that the scrum master needs to be accountable for the outcome of the sprint. Hence the "fusion" between scrum master and project leader, that normally is accountable for the project result. Just a parallel view if you want. Thanks for the reply though.
