I've been working on just making straight cast😮😮😮😮😮. I was able to ease off the brakes, but I sometimes forget testing my lure, if I change up. I saw on one channel where a guy put tape over the reel to keep his nephew from getting a backlash. As the boy got better, he would remove the tape to get more length. I never thought of that idea😊

Tyler , once again, thank you so much for an amazing video. This is the second time I’ve watched it. I like how Daiwa has their spool tension to where it has just a little side to side play. That’s how I setup all my reels whatever the brand. I think it’s better to use the magnetic brake rather than tension, because that puts more resistance on the line and your lure won’t go where your rod tip is pointed.

What I do sometimes when I get a backlash, instead of pulling out more line, I walk backwards until the backlash is gone then I reel in my line tight, LOL Sometimes I have to walk backwards for alot of footage. Probably looks silly but hey , it gets my line back in the reel where it should be. Thanks for this excellent video Tyler!! Happy fishing Y'all!! Best tip for beginners is putting braid with a leader , makes taking out backlashes 100 percent easier. Plus braid doesn't degrade with each backlash as with mono or fluoro that'll damage after bad backlashes
I LOVED TO LEARN HOW TO CAST A BAITCASTER
Great video! Just a question, should you not keep your rod tip lower to avoid the fish jumping out and "unhooking" it self?
I have a question today i went fishing with baitcaster and i needed longer cast and i coudnt cast it more than 20m i have 10-40g fast action 7ft and was using 10g lure is it logest cast or my magnetic brakes are on 5 and my knob tension knot is set like u explained so is it good cast or ?

Im new to baitcasters should i get a right hand or left hand one im naturally a right handed person but my spinning reels are left
What rod size do you recommend for using a Casting Reel..?
Tyler, quick question. On a spinning rod, most people cast right-handed and reel the line in with their left, so the rod never changes hands. On a baitcaster, it seems that you have to transfer from your right to left hand after each cast. Is that proper technique?
Thank you so much for teaching me how to keep a tight line when reeling slack in on your reel. I never thought of placing my trigger finger on the real guide to control the tension. I do have a question, when do I set the break with the dial and when do I set the tension when setting up my reel in other words do I have the dial set on the highest number and then press the release to drop the bait and adjust the tension or do I have the dial set on zero then press the release to drop the bait and adjust the tension then adjust the dial I am so confused as to when I adjust each one could you please answer this question in a video or a personal message thank you so much for your tips excellent video I like your videos you don't waste any time getting to the point
@kenneth9874
Жыл бұрын
Do your spool tension first for a controlled drop, if you're new to baitcasting reels start with your brakes on the higher side, with practice you'll be able to loosen them both a bit. If you're a spin fisherman forget about the flick cast and keep your thumb lightly on the spool adding pressure to slow down and stop the lure, it helps to slightly load the rod on the backcast
Man I wish I learned this earlier, especially the grip

Tyler, I understand you are trying to train tournament style bass fishermen. That's great. Not being a tourney enthusiast or being numbers oriented, I prefer to enjoy the fight more than you do. Water skiing a fish across the surface, then resuming casting in the same breath, well,,,,, seems like more of a job than fishing. Loved your marabou jig video with smallmouth. Now, that's more my style.

I am looking at getting my first baitcaster and I noticed that you cast with your right hand the then flip the rod over to your left. Is that common?
Would you be able to cover how to actually cast the bait caster? When I try sidearm it goes 90 degrees to me in whatever direction the rod was moving but no backlashes. When I try over hand casting I almost always get a backlash. I have set up the reel how you showed and even have the magnetic brake cranked up to 9 or 10. Thanks for all the great videos.
@TylersReelFishing
3 жыл бұрын
Your problem is the brakes at 9 or 10. Also, your rod could be too stiff for the weight of lure you’re throwing
Im right handed and at a young age taught myself to fish with my reel set up on the left because it made more sense to not have to switch hands every time after casting. Is this bad?
Another big tip for after you backlash. After you pull out all the line to get it out, try to get the line spread out along your rod. I know I’m not the only one who has started reeling in all that line and it knotted up and I had to cut the line to get it out

Okay, I’ve lost 2 spool tension knobs in as few fishing outings. How can I keep from dropping the knob where it can not be found? Walking to or from the truck to find my hole.
@trevorandrew8726
11 ай бұрын
If your tension knobs are coming off you may be fishing too light of a lure/rig. These types of issues are why people will fish weightless finesse rigs with spinning reels, because it's where the baitcaster really falls apart. It's doable for sure but if you're having to have a completely loose spool tension, it's time to pull out a spinner
Your very energetic:)
I tried first time about 15 years ago, nothing but problems. Cheap reels have really came along in that time. My advice to new users is have a new user set a sporting goods store set your reel up with flourocarbon line, it is really the most forgiving for modern baitcasters

I grew up with a spinning reel and have been flyfishing for over 40 years ...and of corse I have been left hand retrive. I started to use baitcasters some 15years ago and the first one I bought was of corse a right hand LOL, the guy in the shop said it was the way it was supposed to be done. Many years later and some 25 reels later the majority is left hand. Got a few right hands though and the reason was a very good price or a collector item:) Bottom line, do what is most comfortable for you. The fish does not care if you reel right or left
