@@rozenknopje100 I can say, read and type/write a lot of things, I surely make some mistakes and my vocabulary could be broader.. I understad a lot of spoken dutch if the topic is not something very complex and the dialect is standard dutch... for example I spent last year in West Flanders and still can not understand a single sentence of what they are saying, but I am not too woried about it as it seems no one can understand them, even the nativ duch speakers from other regions..

Ik vond het de moeite waard om de reacties te lezen. Even in het kort. 1. Goedenavond :)

"And see if you can answer correctly." No, it's "see WHETHER you can answer correctly"! My action or capability of, or willingness to, seeing is not tied to a condition, least of all to me answering correctly. You want to teach anyone Dutch? How about you fix your English first?!

Well, if your mom is happy to succumb to careless degradation of language, probably with the excuse of "language evolves" (I'd rather say, devolve), that's her business. But she's not the one giving the lectures here, trying to make a respectable impression as an educative figure. I mean, she tolerates your adding "lol" as the last ... word ... of a sentence without so much as a comma, that says a lot about her credibility ... as represented through you, of course.

I'd actually prefer a literal translation even if the English then makes no sense. Because it shows you clearly what each word means and how they're being used.
